Does this mean.....Splatoon?!?!

This has to be Splatoon. All the updated models and
even the trees are brand new.

Mario Kart Switch is obviously 8 and Smash Bros from the ground up would be too much work in too little time.

I promised myself not to get hyped for a Nintendo product ever again, but i woke up at just before 6am, panicked i overslept for the presentation, but now i see that it'll be tomorrow morning...
Guess i can't fool myself. Once you go hype, there's no turning back.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Splatoon was a full-blown sequel. The franchise is still in its infancy and there's a lot more they can do with it. Especially now that it's more likely to get a much bigger budget.

Page 69 ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Also...if Splatoon 2 is ready for launch, I think Nintendo may have just guaranteed a Year 1 purchase from me

Not enough time for it to be a Xenoblade sequel so early. What are you going to add to make it a sequel for Mario Maker? Smash has too much pre-established for it to not be a port with some extra stuff on top, otherwise it would need a much longer dev cycle.

Has to be Splatoon. It never looked like a port from what they showed and it makes the most sense.

So Mario Kart is a port? I can go with that, assuming it's MK8, as long as it comes with both big DLC packs as part of the game and has more DLC coming up later. I'll double-dip on it. Will be amazing to play MK on that nice big portable screen. (I plan on rarely if ever playing my Switch on my TV.)

Just keep putting out track and character DLC. Don't stop until every single track from every previous MK game has been remade.

It would be kind of sad to leave the Splatoon campaign behind... It was incredible and often overshadowed by the multiplayer.

the reason I asked is that despite the look of the game, there's been some skepticismin SplatGAF and the main Splatoon community if this would be a "Splatoon 1.5" or a "Splatoon 2.0"

but since this Emily Rogers tweet, I'm 100% full on board #TeamSequel

20 HOURS and 35 MINUTES LEFT BABY!

Philosophical question? When is a port no longer a port? If Splatoon 2 is the one she's referring to as a rumoured port that is no longer a port (perhaps turning into a sequel the way Galaxy 2 did), then how come MK8 would be a port?
A hypothetical Splatoon 2 would be rebuilt from the ground-up. New hub world, new campaign etc., whereas Mario Kart seems to be adding on top of existing content.

Folks seem to forget, it wasn't much longer between Smash 64 and Melee (just under 3 years, compared to just over two from 4 to now), and IIRC Melee was made in only 13 months.

Smash 5 could be realistic, even more so if Sakurai actually is not involved, as he's fond of just adding so much that the development takes forever.

A ground-up Smash 5 that's slimmer but the whole package is meaty (if that makes sense) could be very do-able.

Like the character count is still higher, but stuff like trophies are overhauled and only use HQ models (so no more Wii-like models, bar perhaps rips from games and identified as such), but far fewer in terms of all-new models, the rips are the filler, and a full-fledged Nintendo universe-themed adventure mode ala Melee.

Soundtrack can also be far slimmer in terms of composers. We don't need 41 composers like in Brawl or however many were in 4. HAL did it with only 4-5, keep it that way. There can be guests from 3rd-parties maybe and that's MAYBE. Honestly HAL's group can pull it off again solo like they did with 64 and Melee.

Namco's likely the developer since Serkan Toto was the original reporter of Namco making Smash at launch(?) and can just start with what they have with Smash 4 but with overhauled ground-up visuals (it really needs it).

One issue I have with Smash 4's music was why they never got Star Fox Assault's composer despite that being by Namco? That guy's work in the game is OUTSTANDING, and he got left out, fuck. :(

Too long didn't read; they can make Smash 5 happen at launch. :p

Splatoon reveal had like 0 old stuff ignoring similiarities that come with sharing an IP. I never would have started to consider it port without the leaks telling otherwise. That said if it's supposedly ready by launch and a pack-in I'm not sure how this equation is going to work out.

I was excited for en enhanced port, so a full sequel would be inkredible.
Hope it's not rushed. Splatoon released less than 2 years ago and they kept adding stuff.

That will obviously be the case for Splatoon 2 as well.

Emily Rogers' report about the battery life still being mediocre and the device cooling being noisy means headphones and mobile battery packs are going to be essential

The lines are blurry but I feel most people agree that a port constitutes the base game content being near identical to a previous release as opposed the package emphasising almost if not entirely new content. Despite new content, the extent of which we do not know, the implication seems to be that the core of Mario Kart Switch is primarily Mario Kart 8 and all new content supplements instead of defines.

Folks seem to forget, it wasn't much longer between Smash 64 and Melee (just under 3 years, compared to just over two from 4 to now), and IIRC Melee was made in only 13 months.

I don't know if Melee is a good example, as while the turnaround is very impressive it, if I'm recalling correctly, came from an abhorrently immoral workload dumped on the team as they were pressured to get the game ready for the GameCube's launch window. Sakurai in particular I believe reflected on the development cycle and more or less spent every waking hour at Nintendo to see the game through to its rapid completion.

Regardless of the content quality I cannot imagine such pressure would be on the team for Smash 5 when a Smash 4 port would be more economical.

Mario Kart 8 is the same but just with more.

Splatoon has new or changed fundamental features. We've already seen ability to change hairstyle, for instance. It's been speculated there are new clothing items (like pants), which would also change a fundamental of the game. A new campaign could be part of that. New modes. New hub or expansion of the hub. Different rules for the game as we know it (more than 2 maps in rotation at once?). Could be a bunch of things.

Still wasn't sure though, rumors and all.

If it really is Splatoon 2 on release day I fully expect very bare-bones when it's first released and they keep adding on with updates. Maybe they can pull content from the old game to make up for it though.

But honestly I think it's something significant anyway. Not just a simple port. Wouldn't have gone through the effort of inviting Splatoon players from all around to try out Switch this weekend if that wasn't the case.

So, I've missed pretty much all good Wii U titles. The question now is whether I just go out and buy a Wii U or wait for some ports.

I think you can get it on clearance for a good price soon. Not everything will get ported. Assuming all rumors come true there's still some games like NSMBU, Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Nintendo Land etc. etc. fully worth playing. Depends on whether that is enough to make you buy a new console though.

I genuinely do not believe it to be a pack-in.

I fully predict Smash and Xenoblade to be the lightest ports. Xenoblade the most with very little in the ways of new content, with Smash getting a newcomer or two and some 3DS maps/content at most.

20h20m left. It's 08:40 AM here and I'm dead asleep; I suppose that'll make it easier to go to sleep early in order to wake up before five goddamn am tomorrow. Sakurai help me, I'm more asleep than hyped at the moment.

I am READY for MK8 and Splatoon (pseudo)sequels. Give me them.
