Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is native 1080p 60fps 1-2 players, 1080p 30fps 3-4 players

I believe it was DD. I remember thinking they definitely made compromises, however, to make that happen. I think the models went lower poly and/or the textures went lower res. Something like that.

I'm a framerate freak myself, so I would rather have the same kind of compromises than going 30fps. But whatevs.

Those are the kind of compromises that should be made. Or at least it should be an option.

Having said that, this is a little off topic but when they bring Double Dash to the Switch's VC do any of you think it will have some variation of its LAN multiplayer? Double Dash has always been my favorite Mario Kart and never doing the 16 player (8 karts, 16 racers) multiplayer was always something I felt I missed out on. I want to say Kirby's Air Ride, 1080 Avalanche (White Storm), and F-Zero GX were the other 3 games that featured LAN multiplayer, right?

Idk if that analogy really holds up. Sure the Switch is mobile but are you saying for $600 you can get a top of the line mobile device and for $600 you get a crap home device?

Because it sounds like you want to argue that the mobile device will be less advanced at the same price, not more....?

Either way I think comparing the Switch to the current home consoles is totally justified.
Why would it be justified? It would not be possible to put a system with PS4 or Xbone specifications in this form factor without significantly jacking up the cost and running into significant thermal issues. Do not listen to Nintendo, this is a handheld and they are making a grave error referring to it as primarily a home system instead of probably the most powerful handheld available to consumers at that size.

The actual narrative surely is for promote the Switch as a console where you can find their big games (Zelda, Mario, Splatoon) . I'm sure they are wating to Pokémon be announced to focus in the narrative where you will find handheld and console home experience (small and big games) in a only device.

For you.
Over LAN you would expect everyone gets their own dedicated video output. It's not one console for 4 people, it's 4 consoles for 4 people. Remember the old Halo LAN days? I expect it to work like that.

And it seems like it will, thankfully.
I was under the impression this would be in a case where just one person owns the game.

Yeah, I think 2 Consoles for 8 players would be possible still. Even docked and attached to a TV, there should be the option to use local multiplayer wirelessly.

I don't know about game sharing, though. There is no info on that.

8 Player local coop with 8 linked switches possible?

Not sure what you mean by co-op, but yes, you can link 8 switches together locally and play a 8 player race. This was one of the demo setups I played.

I don't know about battle mode or if you could do 16 players by split screening 8 switches though. I'd assume you can probably do 8 player battle mode at least.

Using this thread to get a question answered about MK. Someone sent me this pic, is it real or photoshop? Even with 4 Switches the screen is split between four, like WTF

EDIT:

shots like those are always photoshopped, somebody put the wrong one on the screens

30fps in 3/4 split sounds like they didn't want to dive in and change the renderer (it renders two players for a frame, then switches and renders the other two players for a frame, so the engine is still technically running 60hz for world updates, just drawing at 30)

Off-topic, but the Pro controller looks pretty beefy there.

EDIT: Considering it's one person per Switch, I'm also not sure why you would ever want to use this configuration unless you were the Pro controller guy. You'd be able to see more detail in handheld mode. I only really see tabletop mode being a thing unless you:
- Are sharing the screen with another player
- Want to use the Pro controller
- Want spectators to watch

Still holding out to see if they'll offer some kind of discount for Wii-U owners. I won't be bothered if they don't, but it would be a nice gesture.

You couldn't be more wrong. A nice gesture would be to allow a free update to the deluxe version from the Wii U MK8 if the user already has the base game and all DLC purchased. An expected "at least offer this" type of gesture would be a small ~$10 max upgrade fee for that same user.

EDIT:

probably just to make the point that you can all play together.
if true though, id hope you'd be able to tap your own portion of that screen to enlarge it.

One of my friends is all "Yay, Dry Bones is back!" and I'm like "That's neat. But I can be a ghost with a fancy-ass crown sitting on my head."

I'm more excited for Battle Mode returning, especially that Bomb-omb Blast! is added with the traditional Balloon Battle.

If only we could know the reason why this $300 console is less powerful than the other $300 consoles you can't play on the train. Hmmm.

If you want to compare this to the 3DS or vita, nearly 5 year old handhelds, you are welcome to. But if you are like 99% of the population, you'll compare the current gen with the current gen.

The fact of the matter is the Switch is less powerful than the PS4 and Xbox one. Consoles that came out a few years ago. Obviously since the Switch is a mobile device, this is acceptable. A comparison doesn't need a winner or loser, just a distinction of what the two things offer.

Idk, I didn't say anything bad about Switch, but your comment was kind of sarcastic and defensive for no reason.

Video game consoles will be compared with video game consoles, especially when they launch within the same year of one another (PS4 pro, Switch, Scprpio).

Why would it be justified? You are correct. But as I said above, that doesn't mean you can't compare them. Compare a laptop to a desktop all you want. It's justified because it's a real life choice you may have to make. Same goes for which console to purchase. Do you want mobility? What do the products offer you? The comparison is justified of you take all things into account. If someone just says Switch sucks because graphics, then they are missing the point. And Im certainly not saying that.

Would have been cool to give a 720p 60fps option for more than two players but at the end of the day I guess it doesn't really matter too much.

This is kind of random.. But I'm wondering if 3-4 players with 60 fps and 1080p is actually feasible on the switch.

Lets just say Digital foundary's clockspeed ends up being true and the Switch has two SMS as we predict.. We also predicted that docked mode would be 4x as powerful than the Wii U.

Since 720p-->1080p requires 2.25x more processing power.. DOes double the frames from 30 to 60fps require 2x as much processing power? IF that's true, then wouldn't the switch need to be 4.5x more powerful docked than the wii u to be 1080p and 60fps in 3-4 player mode? We don't about the bandwidth either.

I wonder if it would be enough if the foxconn leaks were true(20% more than eurogamer).
