Eurogamer: Don't Expect Another Deus Ex Game Anytime Soon, EM Working on New TR/GotG

That's a crying shame. I adored Human Revolution and found Mankind Divided to be a great game but an extremely disappointing sequel. Was hoping they'd wrap up the Jensen story with an amazing third game. Sigh...

Shame to see it come to this. Eidos Deus Ex revival was great, but the sequel couldn't build on the good will of the first game

Yeah, I figured this was the case when the Marvel news came out, but it's sad to hear for fans of the series. I played Human Revolution and enjoyed it enough to get Mankind Divided which I haven't had a chance to start yet. Hopefully they find some way to tie up all the loose threads.

Nooooo. D:

I was hoping the Marvel/Tomb Raider stuff was a side project or done by new teams! I'm flashing back to the MD Collector's Edition unboxing from Eidos Montreal now, and I'm reminded of the director's somewhat worried expression when discussing the development!

Aaugh! Are they just gonna throw away the incomplete stuff they obviously cut from MD to make the sequel more quickly? It'll be too outdated by the time they can get Deus Ex off the back burner!

Square Enix!

That's disappointing to hear but it's understandable considering the sales for MD. I hope we see it someday as they left some interesting plot points open for a sequel.

They fucked this up majorly. Not sure who is to blame for the mismanagement. Had Mankind Divided bothered with telling its own story instead of being yet another damn AAA game that is too worried about setting up it's sequel and had it released one or even two years earlier, it would've done so much better.

But I think the whole western part of SE has budget/devtime/story issues. I hope the Marvel plans will at least make them more focused.

Another kick in the balls as a buyer of an unfinished story is that the DLC does nothing to relieve this. God, can't they at least just release some graphic novel to wrap things up or something?

The sad thing is that I really think MD is a fantastic game despite it's shortcomings.

Which for me was a pretty big turn-off.*

Prague sounded amazing, but to near the narrative really felt like a poorly realised middle chapter or even first chapter reset, was very unappealing..

Same. I was sooo excited for MD and was a HUGE HR fan. It's unfortunate but I'm not nearly as upset at thus news as I would be if MD delivered like I had hoped.

Lol at all the DC fanboys in this thread. /s

Anyway, it's not necessarily a bad thing. We dont even know what the game looks like, come back when they release the first gameplay footage then you can complain all u want.

I'm not at all invested in the series, but why wasn't this totally predictable to GAF:
The game wouldn't have sold that much more even if fans loved the game unanimously? And I hate to break it to you: The actual market (=/= NeoGAF) vastly prefers the Tomb Raider games, and a Marvel game with high production value will also be more profitable.
If you like the series, you should have wished that the past two entries weren't that expensive to make. It is not mainstream enough to merit the long development time and budget it got from a business perspective, sad as that is.

I bought MD at launch and finished it, not really surprised at the news. Thought the game was just average - some good parts, some really bad parts, nothing really memorable in the game imo unlike HR which I thought was way more interesting and fun. The biggest take away for MD for me was "wait... is that it?" in what felt like an unfinished game. I also really, really despised the "virtual side game" which required hours and hours if you wanted to get the platinum trophy (I didn't bother).

I'd love more Adam Jensen games but at this point I don't really feel like the team they have can deliver a great DX game anymore so I'm fine with them sitting on it for a while and maybe rebooting the whole thing in a few years with a new team.

God damn, this makes me so sad. I figured when the Marvel news broke, Deus Ex was going to slip away. Mankind Divided is utterly fantastic, and Human Revolution really opened the door for the series. This idea that somehow the game is shit, or that Breach / MT mess took away from the main game is ludicrous. I feel like it really carved the path for a trilogy ending, and the side missions were really intriguing.

As for the team working Tomb Raider, I have faith that they'll do something amazing with it. Hell, at the very least, it'll have better writers. I wonder if they'll bring back some of the puzzle platforming focus, rather than all action combat. Also, after spending so much time in the Prague hub, I have no doubt they'd make the best explorable environemnts.

Not really surprised seeing how successful the new Tomb Raider is and Marvel is Marvel.

At least there is Cyberpunk 2077.

Mankind Divided was fantastic. The story was chopped and had almost no resolution and was muddy but I don't really care about that for these games. It was intriguing enough and kept me moving.

So glad I bought a game with the narrative clearly chopped in half only to be told, don't expect a follow up any time soon. Really glad I supported you guys. I'll remember that in your future releases.

After the playing the game, I am not sure what took them so long. The levels were not as diverse or as cool as human revolution, and the story development was meh.

I would rather have another Dues Ex. I'm just burnt out on Tomb Raider. I don't doubt the quality but I just don't want to revisit that world any time soon.

Ugh, this is fucking bullshit. Mankind Divided was only the first half of a game story-wise. S-E owe us the second half, goddamnit. :(

This is exactly why when the game grew too large in scope they should've scaled back, not split it up into two.

Makes little sense to me, the Tomb Raider sequel was terrible compared to MD; they didn't innovate on 2013's reboot at all and the setting/lore was nowhere near as interesting as the Japanese Island setting,

Harsh to hear, especially because they're leaving the franchise to hang on a sour note.

But i hope the get the time to let it simmer enough to avoid their missteps with MD.

It sucks for the people who wanted more Deus Ex but Personally I think they possibility of a high quality GOTG game sounds a lot more intriguing. I'm really curious as to what direction these marvel games will take from SEs studios, both Avengers and GOTG are prime candidates for open world games.

Mankind Divided was an utterly fantastic game that got saddled with an utterly false reputation as "unfinished and microtransaction riddled half a game" when it was absolutely nothing of the sort.

Preach.

Absolutely phenomenal game and easily one of the best released this generation.

There are narrative missteps but the side-quests are exponentially better and the gameplay in general is so much more refined.

The environmental design throughout is exquisite too.

Criminally underrated and I strongly believe people will give it its fair dues in the years to come when they realise Deus Ex is gone until further notice.

Oh and thanks Square for canceling the final act of this trilogy for Marvel comic-book crap you wanks.

They're rumored to have been working on it since at least mid 2015[/URL], so presumably they've done a considerable amount of work on it already.

Yeah, this is why this news is so surprising to me. The rumors of the game being split up are all but confirmed at this point. So, it seems likely that this was true as well. Seems kinda odd that they'd be so quick to throw all of that work away.

Pretty shocking really, considering how small in scale the game feels compared to Human Revolution. When I reflect back on my time with the game, it feels like 80% of it was spent in Prague.

Yeah that was my main takeaway from MD, the smaller scale. The gameplay was still on point, but it just felt smaller than HR and suffered for it.

That marvel money opportunity must've been too tempting for square to wait on with the risk of the sequel underperforming also. I don't think they would scrap the work they've done, just put it on hold till square enix wants to fund it again.
