Media Create Sales: Week 3, 2017 (Jan 16 - Jan 22)

Kazuo Hirai

I really want everyone to know how much more Titanfall 2 sold than Nioh. It was a staggering amount.
That's quite surprising considering how it bombed in Japan.

Then again, PQube seem to have really good retail channels in Europe and nearly always manage to overstuff.

It simultaneous release the Chinese Version, that's why it sold 200k.

Nintendo says 120m units of 3DS hardware sold, which I'm pretty sure doesn't include Virtual Console games.

So, about 20 million comes from digital, doing the same math Wii U has 2 million sales on digital, out of 15 million.

Some new numbers.

Yeah Pqube games have impressive availability in EU considering how niche most of their stuff is.

lol at how they sneak in Space invaders in there. Indication that they are preparing a TR style revival for it? =P

They've been including that one for the the past 5+ years because they spent $600+ million buying Taito.

You'll notice it's one brand from each company (Square, Enix, Eidos, and Taito).

Yeah saw that, it just doesn't fit in that list with all those sales numbers. Btw. Taito stuff is not even being self-published but by other unrelated publishers (e.g. Dariusburst CS by Kadokawa Games), is it? What's up with that?

Dissidia: Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia will be releasing on February 1st, so the next two days will be pretty eventful in the mobile space.

Square Enix released a new trailer for Fortune Street 30th Anniversary. It's still for PS4/Vita: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU4Hlio3u3s&feature=youtu.be

The only reason I bring this one up is that I believe it was seen as one of the more probable Switch ports given the series.

I believe when it was announced at TGS they specifically called it PlayStation Exclusive. Tbh it seems like quite a poor decision but I guess we'll see.

Well yeah, i don't see FFXV ever happening. FFXII: Zodiac Age isn't exclusive is it?

Not that I know of, but it's a timed one at the very least. That would be great to see this nice remake elsewhere, including portable platforms (since the Vita won't get it).

What is it compared to regular Dissidia?

Hmm...

For the limited third party support 3DS had it held well and still has some life left. After the initial struggle its LTD was questionable.

Possibly relevant:

It looks like Tales of Berseria had the worst opening in the series for a mainline Tales of title starting from Tales of Graces f. Kingdom Hearts HD II.8 Final Chapter probably stole some audience.

It'll be interesting to see how it does elsewhere but it's looking likely that Berseria will be significantly down worldwide from Zestiria.

They did well to expand on to Steam with Zestiria, it'll be interesting to see if the better received Berseria will match it's result.
I would expect it to do worse since it's not the first and the previous two Tales releases on Steam probably turned people off.

Yeah but everyone knows Steam users don't actually play the games!

On an unrelated not was there nothing important in this week's Famitsu? Not seeing any reports.

Well at least maybe the Vita version will sell as a kids' game to buy alongside Minecraft? *shrugs*

To be fair, there's indeed a way bigger defensiveness coming from some people than last time, especially since the PS4 is such a success WW.
Anyway, happens every gen for every console.

To be fair, I think people just get irritated with Nintendo fans claiming every game under the sun will be coming to the Switch. They did the same thing for the Wii U, and we see how that turned out.

So according to Nintendo, Nes Classic Edition (Famicon) sell-through is 1.5M worldwide.
Even pre-orders for Switch are strong, they keep expectations of 2 millions shipped by the end of March.

There're more unannounced titles from Nintendo for 3DS.
Chris vindicated!

Last year Nintendo said Fates was at 780k in Japan, they probably counted getting the other game as a second purchase rather than DLC and I guess they changed their minds for this time.

Awakening, Fates and Holy War Story are all at the 500k mark, considerably higher than all the other games but Mystery of the Emblem.

Yeah, honestly I would think a Radiant Collection on Switch could work if they did one and got it out say in Summer with Warriors in Fall. Honestly shocked we haven't seen that yet period.

Capcpom financials are out.
http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/news/html/e170201b.html

Dead Rising 4 is firm. Monster Hunter Stories is soft. No raging hard on for Capcom this quarter.

a. In the Digital Contents business, sales of Dead Rising 4 (for Xbox One and PC), which was released in December 2016, were firm, while the sales of Monster Hunter Stories (for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems), which targeted younger audiences, were soft.
b. On the other hand, re-releases of popular titles Resident Evil 5 (for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One) and Resident Evil 4 (for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One) performed steadily thanks to a stable fanbase for the brand. Additionally, Monster Hunter Generations, known as Monster Hunter X (Cross) in Japan and Asia (for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems), achieved solid sales overseas thanks to Capcom's established brand capabilities.

Aggression incoming
e. In the fourth quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, the Company plans on an aggressive sales campaign with the release of two major titles for the quarter: RESIDENT EVIL 7 biohazard (for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC) and Monster Hunter XX (Double Cross) (for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems) in Japan.

Yup, came out almost a year ago, in fact. And it was indeed supposed to be episodic, but I'm assuming TPC weren't really happy with sales so they decided to scrap the episodic plans in order to release them all as a single package at retail (if the whole thing wasn't scrapped altogether). I could see that being one of the "many other unnannounced titles" Nintendo is supposedly bringing to the 3DS.

I remember Famitsu digital estimates weren't really stellar, especially for a game that seemed to have quite the production value (for a digital-only game, but even for a 3DS game too).

Also the Animal Crossing Mobile delay is in part due to wanting to add more content: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2017/170201_2e.pdf

As stated yesterday, we have revised the release
timeframe for our Animal Crossing smart-device
title. While we had previously said that we planned
to launch the title by the end of March 2017,
because the Android version of Super Mario Run will
now be launching in March, we are changing the
distribution period to next fiscal year so we can
prepare all the content we wish to include
and
properly support the distribution of this application.
I apologize to all the consumers who are
anticipating this title. We will provide more details
about the specific release period at a later date.
This revision will have minimal impact on the
earnings forecast.

Mind, I think that's definitely the correct strategy. Expectations for mobile content at launch are much higher these days and we've seen a lot of companies delay to meet that expectation.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Can't blame Chris for expecting Nintendo to actually try to make Switch successful.

Oh well, if that's the current spirit over here (and I've seen other posts in other threads from other people of the same tone already today), it's better for me to leave for a while GAF then; this is what I realized by relaxing and taking a breath to be calm and thoughtful on the situation.
Too much unworthy stress trying to have a more rational take on stuff while it's pathetically easier to shit on everything Nintendo does and say and whatever. When you can't have a good, rational discussion on strenghts and weaknesses without getting hammered with "Nintendo is doomed", "They aren't doing anything at all to make this successful", "They can't do things right", while getting the likes of Aostia and Oregano dooming at every corner, and the concerned trollling of so many others, it's useless.

See you soon, world.

It'll be interesting to see how it does elsewhere but it's looking likely that Berseria will be significantly down worldwide from Zestiria.

Graces F had a very mild opening back then.
Zestiria is standing >550k outside Japan with 300k being from Steam.

It wouldn't surprise me if Berseria was to do half what Zestiria did on PC, now on PS4 a slight decline was to be expected at first but longterm sales should help it remain steady at least, if not it's rather worrying.

On the same timeframe (one year) 300k across PS4/PC would be a dissapointing result, anything below a disaster.
Overall the series wil probably stay on a 500k-1M level worldwide for a long time.
