It's been 3 years since Tropical Freeze launched...

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Will this be a big E3 for Retro to finally unveil what they have been doing?

Will radio silence continue until 2018 given this is the year of Zelda, Mario, and Splatoon 2?

What has Retro been doing?

I guess I'm in the minority, but I wouldn't mind another fucking Donkey Kong.

Edit: Guess I'm not in the minority hahaa

Not an asshole.
It is possible, but we don't know anything.

I hope it's not more Donkey Kong. Those games are perfect, but it's time for something new.

Expecting a TF Switch port by next Spring.

Retros game better be a shooter or RPG. I'M guessing shooter since they usually sell better.

Are they though..?

Loading times were horrendous in tropical freeze, coupled by the excessive falling in holes, didn't make the game that fun to play for me at least.

I want something original. Not Donkey Kong. Not Metroid. Either a new IP, or at least a long dormant one (although I guess that includes Metroid, lol).

The opening of the Mario Odyssey trailer, with the big skyscrapers and the street names being named after Kongs, made me think we were getting an open-world Donkey Kong game by Retro for a moment.

And it's still the best 2D platforming ever made

Cant wait for the next game from Retro, i believe we will see something this E3

Wagering a new IP this time, but to the chagrin of some I'm sure it wont be this overly western style title some appear to clamour for, it'll still be distinctly Nintendo like.

Some sort of Donkey Kong minigame collection, probably.

Shake the Joycon to smash barrels or whatever.

look I get it friend, the lack of Metroid these days is a bummer but geez.

Well the first point makes sense but that second point is kinda on you.

I'm hoping we'll see it at E3.

I'd be perfectly fine with another Donkey Kong Country, though if given the choice, I'd prefer a new Metroid Prime at this stage.

The end of the DK trilogy. I'm looking forward to that.

Me too.not joking here

Same, but I think we'd know about it by now if they were working on DKC. TF has been finished since presumably around Oct 2013, so they've been working on something since then. The fact that we don't know what it is yet seems to indicate that it could be a different project, as you'd assume a new DKC would have a 2.5-3 year dev cycle. Unless the game is near-complete and releases this year (with its announcement withheld to make sure Nintendo has content at E3), I think it signals that Retro is working on a new Nintendo IP.

Edit: And by new Nintendo IP, I mean likely an existing one, but not DKC.

It's been three years, but I don't think we know how much of that time they've had a game in full development. There could have been multiple pitches rejected, prototypes junked, or false starts on whatever project Nintendo ultimately greenlit. I'm hoping we learn something at E3.

It blows my mind the Nintendo Switch presentation came and go and we still don't know what the hell Retro Studios has been working on from the last 3 years. At this point their new game must be ready, what if they launch their new
fucking Donkey Kong
game alongside Super Mario Odyssey this holiday!? That'll be awesome.

If it's another Donkey Kong I'm personally hoping it's a 3D platformer. That said, I wouldn't mind another 2D one, though I hope it adapts more elements of the Rare DKC games that were missing in Returns and TF.

Though really, I can't see myself saying no to any game Retro may be working on. Considering how bad Nintendo has mismanaged Metroid so far, any sort of new traditional (re: Prime/non-Prime 3D/2D) Metroid game would arguably be a godsend for Metroid fans. It would also be neat to see them work on a new IP too.

I'd love a new Donkey Kong game.

I'd love even more if we got a new Donkey Kong and ports of TF + Returns so we could have a trilogy all available on the Switch.

A new IP would also be cool tho... Retro makes fantastic games so I'm in for most anything they'd release.

I want a new two punch that was Prime and Fusion in the same month.

In a world where it hasn't been 10 years since the last great Metroid game, this would be my preference. I'd love to see Retro get a shot at doing something wholly original.

But as it stands right now, I'm not sure I'd want anything out of them more than a new Metroid Prime.

A part of me wants a new DKC, not only because those games are fantastic, but also for the inevitable "fucking Donkey Kong" thread.

If Retro's next game is another Donkey Kong sidescroller, there's going to be a complete meltdown on here, isn't there?

A lavish new Metroid or an interesting original IP from Retro would do wonders for Nintendo's nerd cred, even if either is a dubious sales prospect.

DKC, whilst good, is just another 2D platforming series. I have no doubt that the Switch will end up with many 2D platformers, so I want to see Retro put out something either completely new, or Metroid which is dead and buried at this point and needs a revival.

Funny story, but it's been almost 3 1/2 years, since they actually finished TF in September of the year before it released.

I really hope Playtonic gets another chance to make more Donkey Kong country games over Retro. Retro managed to make it an unnecessarily frustrating experience devoid of the charisma and soul present in the Rare trilogy.

What's interesting though is we've heard ZILCH regarding Retro in that time. The last two games, we heard about side projects, pitched projects that didn't happen, key personelle departures, etc. What we do know is that Retro immediately began their next project at the end of 2013, according to Tanabe... Or was it Kelbaugh?

Actually... there was that rumor of a fallout with Tanabe. Hopefully they didn't have to discard whatever project they were working on at that time and start anew.

I'd love a 3D platforming Donkey Kong game. DK64 was a huge fuckup by Rare but that doesn't mean it couldn't work. I'd love to see more 3D platformers from Nintendo outside of the 3D Mario games.
