Call of Duty 2017 going "back to its roots" [Up: Gameplay roots, maybe setting too]

Rebooting every decade or so would be quite reasonable. I would happily see CoD follow the same path again with the insight gained from The last 12 years or whatever it is.

My guess is they will probably alternate between classic and modern from now on, with each progressing independantly.

Call of Duty doesn't need to change its setting, it needs to change how it fundamentally plays altogether.

The campaigns need to be more ambitious besides standard scripted tosh. The co-op zombie mode has been stagnant for years now, make something new goddamit. The multiplayer needs to be have more gameplay types besides standard twitch based arena stuff (Something maybe more like Halo 5's Warzone.)

The last thing I want is for them to go in the Battlefield 1 direction. Changing the setting, but making zero changes to the core game and doing absolutely nothing to make it like an older era.

LOL people act like shit like microtransactions aren't popular, but they are. People spend on this stuff. It's never going away no matter how much people complain about it.

I do not care loot boxes are in a game, just make it cosmetic only.

DLC weapons in RNG crates can fuck off.

The fact that BO3 has more DLC weapon content locked away in shitty RNG drops than shipped with the game is bullshit.

I honestly hope it's either MW4 or Vietnam.

Agreed, I personally would wrather not visit any pre Vietnam era campaigns.

Would love a modern warfare construct where guns have real world names, sounds, and characteristics along with a story based on the current global political atmosphere.

Yes please on the real sounds. I love COD, but I'll never understand why the gun sounds are so awful. Is it that hard for the biggest game franchise on the planet to get realistic gun sounds? Battlefield seems to be able to figure it out.

I mean, you'd think in a shooter, that there would be a higher emphasis on the gun sounds. lol

They should honestly just join the BF bandwagon and go WW1. At the very least they should go back to WW2. I'm ready to go back to that era with this generation of consoles.

Too bad.

Advanced Warfare and Infinite Warfare were the most interesting and refreshing the franchise has been since what, 2009?

I feel like Activision is basically admitting 'our customers have zero imagination, so we're going to cater strictly to the lowest common denominator'.

Yes please.

Absolutely not interested in pew pew laser guns, wall running and all the other nonsense.

Translation; I lack imagination and the ability to adapt to new gameplay mechanics.

COD 2017: We're gonna rock like it's 2007! Again! Like the other 5 times we did fuck all to change our gameplay model! Lowest common denominator for everybody!

Sled tried to make TPS Vietnam game which then put on hold.Later on when asked they said they can immediately go back to that project if they given the opportunity.

So my bet is Vietnam themed game rather then WWII.Also on another note this fecking Supply Drops is a thing for today's CoD's so Nam themed game should've more variety if you want to make microtransaction items.

YEAH OKAY Activision.
You've been saying that for years now, but delivered the same futuristic shitfuckery.
Just like you said there won't be guns in crates anymore.
You pathetic fucks.

If they announced a WW2 game it would definitely make a big splash in the community. If it's not either WW2 or WW1, then I seriously hope Treyarch works on a remaster for WaW, because I need me some WW2 :(

Not sure why everyone gets excited about going back to WW2. It's not like we don't have literally a hundred games set in that same time and space over the last twenty years.

I was digging the future space shooters that we've been seeing the last few years and I thought IW was a great game in the franchise. The campaign was tops.

AW campaign was definitely something worth following up with a sequel. It'll be a shame if it never happens. Great pacing, cool gadgets (even if they could've let you play a little more loose with them) and sound (ala Dead Space team). Kevin Spacey as the baddie was great.

I really hope Sledgehammer nails it again. Also I'm weirdly excited to see which big name actor they might have around to play the bad guy this year. I would honestly love to see Oscar Isaac hamming it up in a CoD game one day.

IWs campaign was very boring and bland, BF1s on the other hand was fun and had great set pieces etc.

Right, right, rightrightrightright.

So, one of the most interesting fps campains to come out last year, alongside Titanfall 2 and Doom, was boring and bland, but Battlefield 1 was good, as it had great setpieces etc.

Your basis for a good campaign is flimsy at best, and fanboyish at worst. I can say with 100% guarrantee that the canpaign of Battlefield 1 has nothing on Infinite Warfare's campaign, other then its saccarine salute-our-troops attempt at emotions.

if Ghosts is any indication...probably not.

They said they want IW to be a sub-franchise and will most likely continue on as being the 'future' CoD we get every 3 years. It was overall better recieved then Ghosts.

Wut... BF1's campaign was so bad. It really shows that it was an afterthought.

I honestly don't even mind which setting they choose. As a whole campaign wise they've pulled everything off.

I mean just to name a few 4, WaW, MW2, AW and IW all have amazing campaigns. They don't get the credit they deserve if anything.

IW's is by far the best shooter campaign I've played this gen too.

I thought IW was COD "going back to its roots" with the "boots on the ground" sales pitch or whatever.

Regardless, COD 2 still stands as my all time favorite COD. I may be tempted to buy if it's WWII. Only thing that would keep me away being Activision's terrible business practices.
