I can't really be too picky with Zelda rankings, because they're all so damn good.
FF is a different example, I think 6 and 8 are better than 7 but that game definitely deserves the praise it gets, especially how disc 1 is a masterpiece and there's barely any RPGs that are even close in terms of hooking the player by the first hours
Your preference of faster games/platform games vs adventure in term of Mario and Zelda games is seeing them in a very narrow lens. Waiting to hit an enemy in a 3D Zelda game barely matters when they offer a variety of content not available in most 2D games. You may not like that term but it really is a hipster opinion, people spreading such ideas is pretty useless because it doesn't contribution in the evolution of the series. If we look at Mario, after Galaxy 2 they rehashed Super Mario World non-stop like you would like, and that lead to their biggest failures in years, no one cared about a 3D Mario game more limited than Mario 64. If more people disregarded the accomplishments of 3D Zelda games, we would get a lot more soulless cashgrabs like ALBW, essentially killing the series. However, we don't, because most Zelda fans prefer the 3D games, even if certain message boards or websites make it seem otherwise.
If Mario was only a platform game, it wouldn't have set the bar for every 3D game ever made with things like the hub world being a more engaging way of choosing a level, or the many clever level layouts that weren't necessarly platform-y. If Zelda was solely about fast action/open overworld/quick gratification in general, we wouldn't have many of the elaborate and memorable scenarios that so many fans of the 3D games hold dearly. Such a reductive view on game series and their genres and a total disregard of generation-defining classics is exactly how the game industry is much more bipolar these days: it's either AAA linear cinematic experiences/open world grindfests or quirky indie/nintendo games inspired by NES/SNES games with very little inbetween
I will never understand how ALTTP always tops the list. It's controls are stiff, and all its obstacle courses are as if they are designed to make you fight the controls. Link's Awakening and the Oracle Games are way better in terms of 2D Zelda.
I wouldn't change to much other than bumping Minish Cap to #1. I had so much fun with it one summer.
What prevents minish cap from being high tier?
Man, I didn't realize so much of GAF hated Spirit Tracks.
Screw it, I love that game.
Most people haven't even played it. They just assume it's bad because of Phantom Hourglass.
Any list with Link to the Past on top is a pretty damn good list.

Sad.
Keep up the good fight!
These lists are interesting because it clearly shows that people like different things about Zelda games. World exploration, side quests with interesting NPCs, and music are my favorite parts of Zelda games. I think Skyward Sword is an abomination. But people regularly put it in their top favorites, so there must be something redeeming about it. It can't be exploration - maybe some people prefer linear adventures. Conversely, Legend of Zelda sometimes gets put near the top because it has that Dark Souls element. Some high school anime story in the intro that drags on endlessly. Then you get out into the world and it's actually just Mario levels. Ridiculous forced minigames that take up hours. Really ugly environment textures. Unresponsive controls - could have put sword swing on a right analog stick. Bla bla.
I bought the game and could not make it past that long anime intro. What the hell was that? I played for a hour and it still wasn't over and I had enough. I paid for a game not a anime movie. Just for that it shouldn't be higher than any of the other Zeldas.
What do you mean by Mario levels?
How's the overworld? Is there an overworld?
Tier of the Goddess
1. Twilight Princess
You know it to be true
You all do
not really an overworld..there's the main "village" where you start the game, and then 3 areas that you are gonna visit multiple times...he probably refers about them as mario levels because they are evidently "game-ing" areas, they don't look or feel like real places, but more like mario levels with tightly condensed "gamey" parts that you are gonna tackle sooner or later, either on this visit or the next, depending on what items you have
while i understand the critic,i really didn't mind this structure, but it's not really one of my favortie zelda either.
combat was probably the hugest missing opportunity of this game...they had a lot of potential with the 360 movement of the sword, instead only 2 max 3 enemies in the entire game actually need precise strikes, meanwhile the bokoblins (?) that you ind everywhere in the world have all the same weaknesses, feints.
basically if you start swinging to the right and then attack to the left, they will always take the bait and get hit...it gets so ridicolus that when you reach the second half of the game you can just RUN through hordes of those enemies without getting a single scratch and killing everyone...
i get it that the enemies that require precise strikes slow down the game considerably and you can't have more than one or two per time without that gimmick becomes frustrating..but still, combat becomes trivial in the worst possible way...when you can you actually prefer to try and outrun them.
I don't think the beginning was that bad either though, not enough to not actually play the game really.
Kotaku lists are terrible. First GTA, now this.
OoT, one of the greatest games of all time, not even breaking the top 5. Laughable.
Please don't make a Silent Hill list. Silent Hill 2 will probably be ranked last.
Also a game that has been thoroughly outclassed in every single way. The game doesn't have the weirdness MM had to set it apart, nor is any of the gameplay other than Z-targeting particularly great today.Kotaku lists are terrible. First GTA, now this.

The overworld you literally select the place you want to go on a level-select screen and when you get there, they're narrow corridors - not as bad as FF13, but getting there.I bought the game and could not make it past that long anime intro. Majoras Mask should be last or near last. Doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the top with the other gems.
Majora's Mask is arguably better than OOT.

please, elaborate
Don't act surprised like I'm the first to not care about MM. Time limits alone in a game where I would traditionally be exploring is enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth.
