Horizon Zero Dawn Spoiler-free Impressions (for real this time)

Nah man, Zelda can do no wrong, every single Zelda game is GOtG on GAF, even TP and SS, which are not the best Zelda games are drastically overhyped imo.

Climbing up everything is now some super duper amazing thing like the grand theft auto series doesn't exist? The hyperbole in Zelda threads is kinda laughable. Knocking down boulders to kill enemies and fanning flames is just mind blowing all of a sudden?

I think it's gonna be a fantastic game mind you.

Sorry, but you're just being hypocritical here. Your original post was about how people making comparisons and saying it's going to be "just more of the same" are bullshit, which I semi-agree with now the impressions are out, then you go straight to calling the positive impressions of another game "hyperbole" and the features of said game "nothing new." This is despite those arguments being as bs as some of the ones thrown Horizon's way.

As for the comparisons being "bullshit", why? They're both open world games and the person's comparison was based on their open world structure and levels of freedom in mechanics, not all of the game's systems at once.

EDIT: But yeah, this has gone on too long, I'm going to stop for now.

After about 9 hours of farting around doing side quests and collecting mats to build bigger pouches n shit, the world is finally opening up from its initial starting point (which is already pretty big)

I stopped right when you get the ability to program and then ride the dinobots for quicker travel since the fast travel system requires a certain item to use.

Minor complaints -

- I don't give a fuck about what's going on. There's way more dialogue trees than I expected and more often than not I'm hammering the X button to get through them. So far the story really hasn't grabbed me, but then again I feel like I haven't really gotten deep into it yet. Still got the gist though.

- The game needs a lock on when you go toe to toe with your spear. More often than not the camera gets a bit messy in these situations. The bow is fucking sweet and ideal for most situations though, same with the tripwire and trap system

- some of the facial expressions look pretty derpy with some wooden movement to go along with them

But it's very fun to play. It feels great, I like the quest system, skills and leveling. I like the loot and crafting and seeking out certain types of animals and Bots for parts or skins or bones. All of the side quests have been worth playing because they reward you well and lead to interesting characters. It looks absolutely stunning and the music is very subtle and beautiful (Skyrim, Oblivion, Witcher, Willow shit with occasional electronic stuff thrown in).

Just making sure y'all dont think now Im just gonna shit on the game. It's a great game. It just aint the second coming. At all.

These are very much non spoiler , just some thoughts by the Poster. So you can check it out without spoiling anything , but i put it in the tags anyway.

I'm sorry if you're offended...those must be one of your gripes.

?

i think it's interesting how similar this is to the no man's sky stuff before release. now, i'm not saying this game is going to suck like NMS. i think it's going to be pretty good. it's just really odd how people get so fired up about valid concerns that they're willing to emphatically defend a game they haven't played yet. is it because it's a ps4 exclusive? i don't get it. why do people seem so personally invested in this?

Huh? My point isn't that Zelda isn't going to be great but that every single feature of the game (like previous titles) is hyped to hell. It's just a GAF favorite title that can do no wrong, and often times it's flaws are overlooked. The games are just coming out on competing platforms at the same time, they are very different experiences.

Would you like me to use another example? Bloodborne I think gets the same treatment.

So we go what 3-4 story grabbed me from the start 1 idc

Camera problems with melee, universal praise for the bow

Quests and combat so far praised as well

oops, wrong thred.

I'll take the chance to say that the game is looking awesome. It's gonna be hard for me to find the time to play this with the switch launch too.

I just think that your arguments are highly hypocritical as they're practically the same as the ones you called out in your posts, nothing more nothing less. But, like I said, I'm gonna stop now because it's gone on too long.

My excitement level went from a 10 to a broken gauge. What was playable at PSX was enough, but knowing how the story is hooking people early on just sealed the deal of hype for me.

What ?
This happen with many games exclusive or not .
What gets me is all of a sudden all hype games are like NMS .
Games have been hype way before NMS and will be hype long after that is forgotten .

The lack of a lock-on for melee sucks, when I get this I can definitely see myself using the bows and other ranged weapons a lot more. Can you do that or does the game encourage less specialization?

you're reading too much into it, I'm just commenting on a game I'm interested in. Also, I could tell after the gameplay previews released the game would be good. It's like you guys can't judge for yourself when hours and Hours is videos are already out there of how it plays.

Yeah, the second half of the game can fall apart, voice acting all off a cliff, and ending be a pile of poo, but I think it's pretty absurd that people scoff at forming an opinion of a game before playing it. I've played thousands of games, you can formulate a decent opinion of something by looking at how it plays and matching it to your wealth of experience. I don't need reviews to validate anything for me, I can tell I'm going to enjoy the game, I've watched it being played and trust my own preferences.

this isn't a normally hyped game. the hype for this game is off the charts.

i've watched plenty of videos too, and most of the things you listed are valid concerns that people are having, relative to the level of hype.

Melee is like a side arm, its there to help in some cases and stealth takedowns.
Bows are still the main weapon. Also lock on will make it overpowered, imo.

Ah, that's good. Years of Soulsborne (and now 15 hours of Ni-Oh) have made lock-on a must in slower-paced melee. Glad to hear I don't have to use it as a primary weapon, stealth takedowns are just single button presses anyway so that doesn't matter.

you can't actually believe that

I agree with him, people are already saying that Zelda and Persona 5 are going to be the best games of the year. They don't even need to play them, they are already sure that's going to be the case.

I don't mind though, but it's something that happens all the time. Wait until we get closer to RDR2 release.

What the fook? Did you see the same threads pop up for Zelda?

- What are your expectations for Horizon
- Will Horizon deliver?
- Will Horion be a dissapointment?
- Zelda vs Horizon
- etc...

There's simply been much more of a benefit of the doubt given with Zelda (the series has earned it after all) than a new IP like Horizon. But despite all signs pointing to a good game, the concern is still pretty abundant. Honestly dude, what the hell are you talking about with this hypocritical stuff.

The same can be said for many other games AAA games.
Just this gen for eg Destiny , TF 1 , WD ( after first few trailers )
As i said this nothing new.

so to argue that this game doesn't have a special amount of hype, you mention 3 of the most hyped games of the past 5 years

Same as yours stop creating some false narrative Rdr2 will be hyped destiny 2 will be hyped, battlefront 2 will be hyped,Forza 7 will be hyped,Zelda,Mario Odyssey, shall I go on or are we going to pretend horizon is in some weird spot

well many of those are games in franchises that are already highly successful franchises. and forza 7? cmon.

whatever, this is pointless. people are determined to defend even the slightest possible criticism of this game without having even played it, and you're all completely dug in. again, this is why i made the NMS comparison.

No man sky sucked because some people got hyped about things we hadn't seen and promises we only heard about. We've seen more of Horizon and most people seem excited about things we've seen in gameplay videos or heard from other people that actually played the game. If you're hyped about things we've not seen yet and they end up not being true, then that's on you

Eh I don't think saying stuff like GG has never made a good game or towers means it's gonna play like an Ubisoft game is really valid. But agree to disagree on that. I just think it's overblown both ways and made a joke about it.

Game is gonna be the greatest thing ever

Or gonna be Ubisoft nonsense

Then the reasonable people who are like 8.7 game..lol And btw since when did Ubisoft become such a bad thing? I haven't played one since like AC2, but I liked it lol...

HStallion

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
fucking everywhere. is this really a thing now? people are going to pretend like there isn't crazy hype surrounding this game?

Seems like the crazy hype behind any big game. Have you seen the hype behind the new Zelda game? The hype for the RDR sequel coming out will probably be at fever pitch closer to launch as well and easily comparable and that game is multiplatform at that.

I'm a filthy casual who only plays games for exploration and story... is the game hard? Is there an easy mode or a lil wee babby mode for wimps like me?
