FAST RMX / Shovel Knight for Switch launch, no VC at release

Btw I want to add I don't care about virtual console if they keep the same prices. Maybe for some rare games I didn't play on their time like Super Mario Sunshine or Paper Mario TYD but those would be very few.

I'm confused. Do you have to buy both Shovel Knights, or is it still one game with free dlc?

Treasure Trove is a rebranding of the original package. The individual campaigns are also being sold separately now.

Nothing changes if you own it on other platforms, but if you jump ship and don't want to repurchase the whole thing you have that choice.

This makes up for the lack of Binding of Isaac I suppose.

I'm just thrilled that both of these games can showcase one of the main features of the Switch, the detachable Joy-Cons.

So now at launch I'm getting:
  • Zelda
  • 1 2 Switch
  • Bomberman
  • Fast RMX
  • Shovel Knight
  • World of Goo
  • Little Inferno
Yikes may have to cut one or two.

Edit: One question - I can buy Specter of Torment standalone or Treasure Trove, which includes Specter of Torment?

World of Goo is a physical release?

No, only the first three out of that list are physical. The World of Goo dev is releasing all three of their games on the Switch eshop at launch.
Are we wure World of Goo is still day one? Not clear with this press release.

Yeesh, that's harsh.

I just don't understand why Nintendo's the only company to get derided over not having a feature previous consoles of theres had at launch. It sucks, I'd love the VC to be there but it just reeks of a double standard. Why weren't Sony and Microsoft given shit for not having any form of backwards compatability or digital classics purchasing at their respective launches?

Yeah, here's an article about it.

I think I'll just be doing Zelda and I Am Setsuna first, but cool that Fast and Shovel Knight will be there once I finish.

Ah! Great point. Lemme tweet at Tomorrow Corp. Seems silly not to include them in this press release - even though those games are old as dirt. Still excellent titles (though I can't speak to HRM).

In an interview one of the devs mentioned how some of the themes are more applicable now vs. when the games came out. Bruh.

Yeah, here's an article about it.

Good point. No PS1 classics = PS4 being rushed to launch? Didn't see a single soul suggest anything like that.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Not having to compete with VC titles is great news for those early indie eShop titles.

I didn't see that we had this thread, so I posted my speculation about Virtual Console in the Embargo one. Linking to it instead of re-posting everything:

One thing I'd add is that I'm honestly ok with waiting for Virtual Console. It'd be awesome to have it on day one, but it seems like Nintendo is very intentionally spreading out their releases here. I'd rather they treat Virtual Console the same way they will Mario or Zelda and launch it with a ton of games.

To be fair, it's not just the lack of VC, it's also stuff like the lack of an internet browser and media features like Netflix that's making the console's launch feel hollow/rushed to a lot of people.

HOW THE FUCK DO YOU NOT HAVE A SERVICE YOU'VE BEEN RUNNING FOR 10+ YEARS READY AT LAUNCH

Well, at least I'm one of the few people who hasn't touched Shovel Knight on any other platform before, so that'll be a nice launch game.

A retro tablet without a d-pad? What's the point?
Yeah playing Chrono Trigger or Mother 3 will be horrible on Switch because there is no dead. Not to mention that everyone interested in VC games that really need a dpad will likely own a Pro Controller down the line.

Yes, you can buy Specter of Torment standalone or buy Treasure Trove, which will have Shovel of Hope (Shovel Knight campaign), Plague of Shadows (Plague Knight campaign), Specter of Torment (Specter Knight campaign) and the future King Knight campaign.

I'd hope they're improving the service further before they relaunch it tbh.

In that case I'll probably get Fast RMX along with Zelda, but WTF no Snipperclips at launch? The actual fuck?

That was gonna be my "couples" Switch game to play with my wife. :-(

I'm probably in for Fast RMX, but wish it was physical instead. Already have Shovel Knight on 3ds so not feeling compelled to buy it for Switch.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
Well I'm prepared for the VC to get even worse on Switch. Please prove me wrong Nintendo with a huge launch of the service.

Almost everything else about this thing seems like steps in the right direction. I have faith VC will be, too.
