Nintendo France: Switch does not support Bluetooth headsets/headphones

Isn't the thread title a little misleading? A lot of hearsay is what it sounds like. Not denying this is true but I would like an official quote from Nintendo France before naming the thread something along the lines of "Nintendo France said".

Ok, this is the thread I call stretching. If neither Sony or Microsoft included bluetooth support for wireless headphones, why expect Nintendo to? This is the thing I feel to not expect at all.

er_photo_213136.jpg

Sony included it in the system they released that's the closet to what to Switch, which was released in 2011.

That's one of the biggest reasons why I (my mistake) expected Nintendo to include it. It's 2017, try to find a portable or mobile device that doesn't support Bluetooth headsets.

So.. how long do you all think til the charging grip revision that includes a 3.5mm jack. Also, which do you will happen first, OS update to support bluetooth headphones or said charging grip revision?

So how do I use headphones when this thing is docked? They put the world in these controllers but not a headphone jack?

While this makes sense, it's still Nintendo. The one thing I made sure I did was not expect Bluetooth. I get it, it's a handheld, but Nintendo adding bluetooth was always a low chance, regardless of what year it is.

Would 3.5 mm Bluetooth receivers work? Sorry if this was asked already.

I'm pretty bummed by this as well, and while an adapter is not a fix, if it works I could get by for now. They need to add this soon though.

There are previewers out there with Switches right now. Can't one of them confirm? I just bought a freaking bluetooth headset last week...

Well that's a bummer. I have no idea what I'm going to do at home when it's docked other than get an extension cable (which are cheap thank god). It's going to stink having a long cord running to the chair/couch. I already planned on using wired headphones in "on the go" situations like I do with my cell phone, so that's a wash.

So I assume Nintendo is releasing a proprietary Bluetooth headset that'll work? Do they just mean it won't work with generic headsets?

Which is the exact reason why people, like myself, are venting in this thread. This is just another case where Nintendo needs to get with the times.

Can't imagine why it wouldn't. That is a fix for home, cept it's another thing to charge. Luckily I have some shorter microUSB cords laying around.

Thanks for the idea!

Why did you do that? It was never confirmed by Nintendo outside of the French interview, which got now corrected.

Well... I'm really glad I didn't decide to buy a bluetooth headset for launch! I was seriously debating doing so, with the catch that I'd also use them for my phone. Now I'll just wait.

I use the Sony bluetooth headset when playing the PS4 on the TV because it sounds better and also so I don't wake others with a loud TV, so this news sucks.

This and the no family sharing news has really put a dampener on this console for me :/

It's OK. I don't need Virtual Console, headphones, StreetPass, a screen that works in sunlight, Netflix (or other web apps), or controllers that pair with the system. As long as I can collect platinum coins and redeem them for dope wallpapers, all is well.

(I say this lovingly, as someone with a preorder and an evidently unyielding attachment to Nintendo.)

Add this to the list of things that the Switch should do, but doesn't

Dat Nintendo Stockholm Syndrome

hype af for my pre order too

A pain for sure, i'm lucky enough that my tv feeds into my pc which has a bluetooth headset tied to it but that's because I went out of my way to do so, the switch really should support wireless headsets out of the box.

I'm pretty sure you can see that screen in the day though.

Would one of those 3.5mm - bluetooth converter dongles work?

If there's enough space and the 3.5mm jack is exposed while docked, yes, unless there's some kind of radio interference we don't know about. The left stick thing may be radio related, for example.

And even then you could always put the dongle into the TV rather than the Switch.

I would have been happy with a dedicated optical output in the dock. The same as the Xbox One and PS4.

Would at least let me use my surround headphones like I do with my other consoles.

I guess I can go through my tv optical out. It's just annoying that so many little things about the system are backwards or deficient in some way.

Using one of these is an option (I use one for my car to sync to my mp3 player), but it's still an inconvenience.

I was just getting ready to post something like this. Took like 5 seconds of searching. Yeah, it's slightly inconvenient but it should work.

For the most part, there are always options to make things like this work. So if it matters that much to everyone at launch, there ya go.

And before anyone responds or quotes me, please refrain from the whole "that's not the point, it's 2017" rhetoric. I get ya)

Well I have. Bluetooth device bought from frys for $12 bucks .. plugs into line in of a device and then you can use your Bluetooth headphones. It's just added bulkyness however :/

Really disappointing stuff here. I love being able to just plug in my headphones on PS4.

Damn, what a shame.
