Tabata shows FFXV PC ‘tech tests’ using Nvidia’s Gameworks on GDC [Up: Screenshots]

My opinions on the game are severely mixed, but the game just came out in November. They still have content to get out there

I just feel like the game doesn't have the quality to warrant lots of extra content.

Not sure what I hate more, this trite opinion, or the fact that it's posted in every thread with "XV" or "Tabata" in the title.

Well, it's the first time I have posted it. And it is just my opinion. Not every game needs to become a service to update and feed for months/years, especially not this one.

I think they should just be direct about it, announce a PC port and get to it and release it instead of playing around like they do and taking forever to actually get it done.

This showcasing (the way they describe it anyway) was the engine with the gloves off, showing off what it would look like if it were developed with PC specs in mind.

And considering just how weak PS4/Xbone hardware is compared to decent gaming rigs these days, the difference may indeed be significant.

Nonsense! Eveyrone knows you can only do stuff like that in the closed environment of a console, the only place optimization can work.

You joke, but Horizon Zero dawn shows that devs have to place this in a design perspective from the outset and they can punch above their weight.

Graphically i'm sure they are able to get much further with a larger ceiling, but the game itself doesn't change which is the entire point of the argument for 'closed box optimization'.

You forget this game still has to run on machines weaker than PS4 and XB1 as well even with higher end graphical rendering options for higher level machines.

*EDIT*

Hey we actually did get pics after all! I can still see the cut off distance of the grass but it seems to be much further out...also...is that off road driving!?

I don't even care anymore. I mean, there's games I already finished on console and I'd gladly replay them on PC, but for FFXV... I simply don't care anymore. :/

I wonder if there are other people in the same situation as me.

2018 would be nice as that's when I'm expecting to upgrade my 970. 1170 next year or the AMD equivalent if they don't fuck it up.

What does this mean? I guarantee you that if if the devs took the time, they could run the same game on a GTX 970 at even higher settings.

can you blame them? These days mainline FF are rare and when we do finally get them they aren't good.

13 first FF on that gen... let down.
15 first FF current gen.... let down.

Yes.

The problem to me isn't that they don't like the game and feel the need to express it in every FF15 thread (typically the same 10 posters), it's that it displays a complete disregard for how content is being developed.

Imagine someone wandering into a CoD thread and bitching that they should make a real sequel instead of these map packs. It ignores that they alternate teams and people paid money for that DLC already.

"Punch above one's weight" means throwing out powerful hits uncommon for the boxer. Obviously if you threw more powerful hardware than PS4 at a game like Horizon at the developmental stage it would be better than PS4, the point is the hardware in PS4 is pushing out those kinds of visuals to begin with.

I'm saying games like Horizon show that a 7850 with a lower than i3 CPU can beat an open world game with W3 in pure fidelity due to CDPR having to account for all kinds of hardware and stretching their limitation budget thin as opposed to just GG who only focus on one configuration.

That's why i was confused as to why you were throwing shade at closed box optimization. What this shows doesn't disprove that. They are putting in high end features for high end hardware for FF15's PC version and maybe Pro and Scorpio

Look at all this crazy shit. All the extra bells and whistles that people said SE wouldn't bother putting in... despite SE themselves saying they would, multiple times.

Announce the fucker already.

i was clearing out memory on my PS4 for Horizon and when i got to FFXV (easily taking up the most space) i thought about it for a second and just said fuck it... i'm done with this on PS4. love the game, can't wait to see what the multiplayer brings. but PC is so inevitable why even bother. going to trade in my copy tomorrow

Improved GI, fluids, destructible environments, it's obviously research for the PC version. lol

”The latest technology that Nvidia offers enables us as game developers to create the possibility which is not simply about an evolution in visual appearance," explained Tabate, ”but also to create new user experiences and greater emotional depth for players. We are going to continue working on some various tech tests so please keep your eyes open for more information coming out from the partnership between Luminous Studio Pro and Nvidia's Gameworks."

From the amount of NV code example here it seems as if SE just said "you port it" to NV and went somewhere in the direction of Marvel offices.

guys a pc port of ff 15 will most likely be standard fare. developers play around like this all the time. highly unlikely any of this materializes

Well, they're definitely working on that PC version.

Not a fan of Nvidias gameworks and I think hairworks looks like shit in everything it's been on so far, but will get the PC version to test out

These tech tests basically confirm what the director was hinting at and wanted to do with the hypothetical PC version whenever he was asked about it though.

"HT: I’m quite positive about the idea of developing a PC version, but I would like to make a very different project if possible. The reason I’m interested is that a PC version would propel the game to another technical level. I have in mind a version of Final Fantasy XV that is more technically developed. This version could incorporate things that we were forced to abandon because of the limitations of home consoles. With the PC, this would be an opportunity to release a version far superior in terms of quality and tech. That said, if we choose to develop this project, the development will start from scratch by doing research of what would be the best technology to use. It might not be a simple port of the console version."

"I'd like to release the game on PC as a technical attempt. I want to show PC users Final Fantasy XV running on high-end machines."

yeah it sure sounds great on paper

Looks like I'm going to be double dipping for this game. Hopefully my i5-6500 and RX480 will run this better than the console version. Though by that time I should have upgraded my GPU.
