Does it really matter now that Steam natively supports the DS4 and DS3 along with generic DirectInput controllers?

In a way. There's shouldn't have to be, essentially, a middleware solution for something that could be supported by itself. I have used a DS3 and then DS4 for a long time with inputmapper and other such software to use them on Steam, but it shouldn't be necessary. Steam doing it is a good way to handle it, but still not ideal. Native device support is always preferred.

For you.
Why do you people side step my question instead of simply answering it?

You have yet to answer why SE would pull all this shit other than "HURR DURR Square Enix are dumb about PC HURR DURR" so why should I?

Not to mention that No Man's Sky had a similar "don't talk about PC port" situation, even if it wasn't as obscured as this. Or the Crash Trilogy, that was never mentioned by anyone to be multiplatform until a Twitter PR dude fucking up.

Again, give me one single time SE pulled something like this. Give me one single fucking reason for them randomly doing this with this game but not with DQ Heroes 2.

I hope my FX-6300 does not need to be overclocked for this to run a flawless 60fps@1080p (with an rx470 in the gpu front). I want that superior experience, Square!!! :D

SIE is the distributor of NMS for the PS4. Don't know how that's relevant to this story. Crash Trilogy is a timed exclusive.

Nier Automata isn't being published by SIE. As far as I know Sony has never forced devs to erase the existence of a PC version in the past.

SE themselves don't sound sure when the PC version of Nier will be ready, so there that's your answer instead of your Sony moneyhat conspiracy BS.

Why the fuck would Sony allow SE to announce the PC version just to remove it later? Are you serious with this? Are you a troll?

Ah ok, so your theory is Square Enix is just a bunch of people with blindfolds running around in a office then?, with no ideas about what their products are and when they will be released?

Holy shit, and here I thought you couldn't think of a dumber reason, holy shit.

And seems you have no fucking idea what a marketing deal is. Here's a newsflash: it's about marketing. Leaving a version out of marketing materials for months directly affects the sales of such a title.

Again, give me a reason for removing all mentions of Steam in marketing material for months. Give me a fucking reason why they would do this even if there was a delay.

A game not being ready does not mean that you cant advertise for it. Especially if the adverts and logos are already made and where already on published adverts that didn't have release dates.

Games get advertised for years before the game is even in a remotely ready state. This is common.

Again, it makes absolutely no business sense for them to remove marketing for this game, for a huge potential install base, especially considering that the material was already made. Unless a marketing deal was made at some point after the adverts and marketing material where also made that offset the cost.

I said earlier that two things that Sony might be factoring into their decision to do this is, they are flush with cash and are known more and more lately for their "Niche" games over the competition so they want to reinforce that in the minds of their audience. Also, they could see that this game isn't going to be very hard to run so more people with lower spec PC's will be able to run it, therefore meaning more potential lost sales for their platform. As well as seeing the recent boon in Japanese games sales on PC.

So there are some potential reasons. No one is going to be able to know for sure, however, like I said, it would make absolutely no business sense to remove marketing (talking about stuff without even a release date) for your product without some sort of compensation.

Lol. Again why would Sony allow SE to announce the PC version only to remove all steam logos later? What is the point? What are they trying to accomplish by doing this? Why announce the PC version at all in the first place?
They had no issue with other games like NMS, Tales of Berseria or DQH2.

I think the recommended GPU is over inflated. I don't see anything impressive about the game to require a GTX 980 for smooth performance at 1080p. The GTX 770 has enough fill rate for 1080p as well. I think people should wait for benchmarks first.

Yes, please take off your blindfold already. This insanity needs to stop.
Please tell me which Sony marketing deal in the past required the developer/publisher to erase all traces of PC version of their game? SIE isn't even publishing Nier.

NMS, Binding of Isaac, and Nier have all been relatively similar situations with slight variations. We knew the PC ports was coming, and that was about it. Developers were required to not answer any questions or give any information into the PC version.

It was weird when Binding of Isaac did it since the series started on PC and sold millions upon millions of copies. Now, it's old hat.

Games with exclusive marketing deals aren't a new thing.
Some people believed Destiny was a PS4 exclusive.

... do you not understand the concept of marketing ? Do I need to explain it? Do I really really need to explain that removing all mentions of a certain version in marketing materials will affect the mindshare that version has? Like jesus christ, this is really simple stuff.

Because, not all marketing deals are the same. I don't think Sony just hand out an infographic written in steel when they do these deals. I would guess there is always a back and forth that goes on and there is some give and take during negotiations. So not every deal is going to look the same. Not every deal is going to happen at the same time either. Say, after marketing materials are already made and scheduled...

The deal was put in place later? It was after PSX that this began happening.

NMS took a long time to get confirmation for PC/PS4 day and date releases.

Should my GTX 970 and i52500K OC be able to run this at 1080p at 60fps?

I doubt you actually need a 980 for 1080p so it should work.

Will someone with a better understanding tell me which platform I should buy this game on.

I have an Alienware Alpha and a PS4 Pro. I think my Pro will play it better, but maybe I'm wrong.

CPU: Core i3-4130T dual-core with hyper-threading
Processor Clock/Cache: 2.9GHz, no turbo, 3MB
GPU: GTX 860M variant with 2GB GDDR5
Memory: 8GB DDR3L at 1600MHz (dual-channel)

Did Sony force Activision to get rid of any info that said that Destiny was also coming to other consoles?

I do. They usually only mention the PS4 version in ads but they certainly don't force devs to remove other versions from their website.

Your i3 should be stronger than Jaguar in both PS4 and Pro,but that 860M is weaker than Pro's GPU by far though.

Your not gonna get a pro experience but comparable to OG PS4 i feel.

I'm asking for a precedent.

No, you are asking for people to show you where something happened EXACTLY the same. People have shown you plenty of precedents already and I've explained that not all deals are the same.

EDIT: Crap, would love to carry on this convo but my wife just informed me that her amazing food is ready to be eaten. I should be back in a bit though.

That's what my thought was. I could probably lower the resolution and get a steady 60fps, but I think I'll stick with the Pro's frame drops which don't seem too terrible.

Thank you.

Okay you have to be trolling a bit now. There is clearly a marketing deal at play. Now there is a chance the incredibly shitty way it was handled could have been on SE to a certain degree. I doubt Sony came to then with the deal this screams of SE cost savings.

A week late... =/
I guess it's still close enough, but still not happy with SE's treatment of their PC audience.

Also, my 980 is a recommended card now?! I was hoping for 4K 60 on it, but I might have to pick up that 1080Ti.

I'm asking for a precedent where Sony forced the devs to completely bury their game on other platforms.

It may not be Sony directly handling how SE shitty are doing it, but the argument is that there is a Sony deal in place to prioritize the PS4 version in adverts, and while i had my doubts, not sure what else it could be for SE to handle the game in this manner.

Of course i also hear that they only sent out a few review copies and we don't even know the review embargo lifting date so who knows what SE are even doing with the game

Shiiiet.. Too close to Mass Effect and I haven't probably done with Horizon.

I shall see if I can wrap Horizon up before the 17th, or else I'l get it later.

That's not the point I'm refuting tho.
