Yeah, we really need a DSFix esque turn off AA banner in the OP.

The post AA that comes in tandem with the AO is plenty good with minimal performance hit.

That Kaldaien fix is really great.

Why does this games AO make all the colors so washed out? Looks nasty to me, might need to try that Reshade.

Note that if you turn off the in-game AO, you may need an external form of AA (like reshade's SMAA), since the game's post-processing AA is tied to the AO option.

GTX970 i7-2600 8GB RAM, 1080p. AA: off, Texture-Filter: 2x, everything else is on high/ on. Is pretty much consistent 60fps. Turning AA even to 2x makes the frame rate go down to 50 or so.
The big areas like the city look a bit arse in the distance, but actually pretty good up close in my opinion. The visual effects are very flashy tho. And the animations are just sexy as fuck.

Only two issues I had:
1) Needs Borderless Gaming for resolution fix
2) Random screen freeze once, which caused me to repeat like 30 mins of the game. Save your game people!
Was a bit skeptic reading this thread, but as mentioned, I'm having no issues with frame rate using the settings above. To me this is like a mix of FFXV and MGR:R, but better than both.

I took some screenshot today after tweaking some settings with the Reshade pack robgrab posted.

Ultimately, I think the game needs two things: removal of the green filter and less blur. Adding the tonemap setting and sharpening filters in Reshade fixes these (the former seems to replace with a brown filter instead). Screen comparisons below.

NOTE: All screens use max shadows and textures

Also, I've noticed better performance and visuals with Reshade AO (MXAO) vs the in-game AO so I've been using that. I'm playing at 3440x1440 and getting FPS in the mid-40s while outside in the city and low-high 50s in the building areas. I have a G-Sync monitor so the lower frame rate doesn't bother too much. Also, I don't think the game really needs AA (at least not at my resolution) so I've been disabled in-game AA using 2x AA in the Nvidia Control Panel settings although I'm not sure if that is actually doing anything.

PC Specs:
- i7-6700K @ 4.5GHz
- GTX 1080 @ 1936Mhz
- 32GB RAM @ 3000Mhz
- 512GB MX300 SSD

Kaldaien's fix is working wonders. The game used to fluctuate between 59.3 and 59.8 with a busted framerate limiter. Now it runs smoother and is finally locked into 60.0FPS instead of the jerky fluctuation that it was having before. There are some hitches every so here and there, but it's better than what the base game was giving me.

I decided to turn off ReShade and used the games AO without AA.

The fix does not work for me unless I change something. And when I do, I get white screen crashes.

I'm done with this game until a patch. or if the tweak patch gets another update.

I shouldnt need 3-4 3rd party apps to get a game fucking working correctly.

How do you bring up that control panel?

I've got a 680 and an i7 3770, you guys think I should get this on PC or on my PS4 Pro?

Maybe I'll just buy on PC and refund if it's questionable.

What a pain, magazines say this PC port is not very good. Maybe because Platinum's lack of budget.

Is Durante planning to work on Nier to make the game better, or devs should correct their game themself ?

The PC port is good. It has some minor problems that are easily fixed right now. Overall it's still better than the PS4 version.

That fix made things much worse for me actually. More than a few grinding slowdowns where there weren't any before.

Were you running fullscreen before? Without this mod fullscreen would have only been rendering 900p so that's why it may seem like it's performing worse now.

I have been using both, FS and borderless.

But even if it were just the upgrade in res, it wasn't like dropping to 40 FPS, it was stuttering/dropping to like 0. And I have a 1080. Same areas in borderless don't have the issue.

Edit: Decided to reinstall and now....it works fine? I think. At least those same areas aren't repeating the drops again. Maybe the installer screwed up the first time.

overall the framerate is more consistent with the fix, less of those 59-60fps stutters, but I get more drops to 57fps when running through the forest area (while gpu is still only at 80% utilization) which I'm sure wasn't there before.

looks like it's a caching thing? someone mentioned to disable dx11 texture caching and it helped, but then I'll get frequent 59.5fps drops like originally lol

edit: yeah i'm going to stick with the 59.5fps stutters, can't stand the larger drops.

it AO = ambient occlusion?

and if so, isn't ambient occlusion something to do with the colors?, how does it have anything to do with jaggies and AA?

It's just because the developer decided to group the AA together with the AO feature. They are separate, just controlled (toggled) by the same setting.
