Phantom Dust Remaster now 8GB after uncompressed cutscenes were found

That's stupid, cutscenes should be compressed and offered at a lower size for the NA residents. Nothing good about this tweet.

Nice. I know it's coming before E3 this year, but were they ever more specific than that?

EDIT: Lol. I guess not so nice for those that have to worry about data caps.

Upgrade? Isn't this the HD Remaster that isn't actually an HD Remaster?

They're just talking about compression. Could still be in 480p theoretically.

The fact that cutscenes from a game originally released in 2004 seems amazing to me (even just knowing the fact that those uncompressed scenes have just laying around in some hard drive for over a decade)

He is not saying that they will include uncompressed cutscenes. They found the uncompressed cutscenes and can generate a better quality encode now instead of just re-encoding the old compressed cutscenes.

That tweet doesn't mean they put uncompressed video in the game. They're saying they found the raw files as opposed to files compressed using lossy 2004 codecs. They could totally be encoding them in something modern.

Ok, these motherfuckers are 100% wackjob nutso if they're rummaging around for and implementing higher quality cutscenes(hooray!) but still keeping the internal rendering locked to literal Xbox 1 levels.

That tweet says 'we're not replacing the assets.' Assets refers to the ingame models and textures, not the resolutions.

Got another source for the 480p thing?

They've been incredibly vague about what's going on with this thing in general, though.

LOL...wat?

Looks at sarcasm meter.

Edit* I live in the US and have Charter. I don't have any data caps. Don't blame or go after game files sizes when it's these idiot companies that are to blame for caps. It's just an excuse to make more money.

Wait............. original as in new, or original as in the original assets??

Original as in the Original Xbox assets. They are not doing anything on the assets or engine as far as we have been told. All they are doing is unlocking all of the cards in MP and some other QOL improvements. This project was done on such a small budget she didn't need approval from anyone else in Microsoft.

The twitter account in the OP said that it's "not just upscaled" although they're not replacing the assets and that there's technical stuff afoot. I think it's being rendered at a proper resolution, not 480p, no matter what that quote says there.

Shannon Loftis, who you're quoting there, also said this:

"We're working with the original game code, but running it on an Xbox One, it just looks better, since the Xbox One is a much more powerful system. It looks more modern, the heart of the gameplay is the same, and the best part is, we're adding Xbox Live, with all Xbox Live features. It's an Xbox Play Anywhere game, it supports cross-play and cross-save, and best of all, achievements."

There's no way this is 480p IMO.

Not that I wouldn't be ecstatic to get the game running in a higher resolution it doesn't seem likely.

From the Polygon Interview.

So we're sticking with the original graphics for the game. Party because the animations are so crucial to gameplay and to upres the graphics means opening old animation files and everything else; so the original resolution and the framerate is exactly what you're going to experience. You know it is a little bit of a wayback-machine kind of experience but the gameplay is so incredible that is what we're focused on bringing back.

Oh. That's cool i think.

Wait a second, 480p? Didn't it run at 720p on the 360 via BC? Or was it only added MSAA?

The 360 BC ran at 720p. That's why I'm thinking there's still miscommunication on the resolution, but it's not as though there hasn't been time to make it clearer.
