Xbox Project Scorpio Announced - 6TFlops, 320GB/s - Fall 2017

Microsoft will certainly push the Scorpio more than Sony have with the Pro. They will give it the next gen treatment even when it isn't. Phil has played it down saying he expects to sell far more OG XB1's, but I think they are hoping Scorpio sells to far more than just the 'high end' minority.

Also yeah. Madden bundle for North America and Fifa bundle for Europe. $499 with 2TB HDD. Standalone Scorpio $399 1TB.

Beat that Jez!

we should really stop quoting his tweets when they hold no substance or value what so ever.

When he makes an article worth a damn, then sure why not. but come on, he isnt worth bumping a thread about his tweets. especially since he isnt held by any nda but supposedly he has some plot twisting juicy details we dont know about! *gasp*

Well, if they're hoping that, they better price it below $400. Even then, it's still a stretch.

Had a thought this morning, but I wouldn't think the system would be out early enough to make the launch.

I could see Microsoft and EA showing off Madden 18 using the Scorpio. New engine, new high-end console....would be a great way to say "This is Xbox One Scorpio and this is the new Madden 18".

Millions would hear what the game is running on and see what the system could do. The Madden audience is huge.

I'm with you on EA having a title that really shows off what Scorpio can do, but my personal bet is on it being a combo of a sports game and Battlefront 2.

Kinect/Cortana is built directly into the system. No need for a headset, voice commands and control of your entertainment center without any accessories. Maybe Microsoft is showing up with VR (kinect changed to increase VR experience).

Recent comments by Phil really have me doubting that Scorpio will be big for VR. However, I really want Cortana support to be built right into the hardware. It shouldn't be too costly to throw some microphones into the case for just that purpose. I personally think that Kinect itself is dead though. That era is over.

Remember that time that Jez teased big news for like 2 weeks, every day hinting an article was about to come out revealing some grand info about the Scorpio, and when the article came out it was nothing but a compilation of stuff we already know?

I remember. It was earlier this month.

Looks like someone has correctly figured out one of the E3 titles MS is going to feature on their stage. Kudos to you, good sir. Yup, Madden 18 is running on Frostbite this year and for the foreseeable future. Still though, the game is going to look very similar on all platforms - Native 4K is going to be the defining Scorpio feature that gets trotted out a lot in June.

Yes they have to have a $399 SKU. But they are certainly hoping to sell this to more than a couple of million core Xbox fans. Just what success they have with it remains to be seen.

I guess when we get the full deets we can more accurately assess just how much it will bomb!

If they absolutely have to, I'd be happy with a $399 sku that doesn't include a controller or HDMI cable. Call it Scorpio 'Upgrade' edition or something. I've got an elite controller, don't need a new basic one.

That's like 15 bucks worth of equipment lol, of course it will have those. I think they will be very close to break even though at $399 which obviously isn't ideal. But that's where the $499 bundles come in which they make ~$50 on!

I really don't see any world in which their base model isn't $399 without cutting essential things like a controller. It would be neat if they offered some kind of "upgrade" version for existing customers though. Maybe something that you can only get through a Microsoft Store.

Not a guess, but rather games I'd like to see get the patch, anything is else is gravy.
- Witcher 3
- Mass Effect Andromeda
- Quantum Break
- Halo 5
- Gears
- Fallout 4

If I'm reading this right, he's implying the console has more than 6TF. Dunno with Jez, he's deliberately obtuse for the hits sometimes.

I think what he means with this is, that the dev units out currently are not using the full amount of power available. It has been held back, in june, the full power will be unlocked. I think you just took what he said the wrong way.

He thinks there's a plot twist coming because what he knows is massively underwhelming to the point where he basically assumes there must be something big to make the console worthwhile/exciting.

I bet the $499 bundles will be with a pack in game and a bigger hd. Like 2tb for the $499 model.

Also I can't understand the hate for Jez. He knows people at MS. Recently on the podcast he said he has seen the inside of the system but obviously there was a fan covering the APU and such. It's probably best he not reveal what he knows as he could out his source. MS is probably being real sneaky with what they reveal and to whom.

I agree that everything Jez says is annnoying but he's not coming to gaf posting his vagueness. It's his own twitter he can say whatever he wants

FIFA would be a bigger 'get' imo, given the worldwide appeal of soccer and Sony's EU domination it could persuade gamers towards Scorpio. Also FIFA is late September so that would give them more time than late August with Madden.

How dare yall not to mention NBA 2k18 launch title for Scorp? that's some bs right there...lol

Good point, what I'm getting at is, he's in a paid job covering video games, I think he's wasting it somewhat by fishing for attention with petty teases, which is a very easy thing to do. He's a young lad and he's already gaining a rep of being a attention seeker and not just by folks on this forum.

Thinking short term for a "look at me I know stuff" routine when his work should speak loudest.

Microsoft has this entire generation, and will continue, to promote FIFA in the EU markets. Not a new initiative. Hasn't moved the needle in their direction in that region at all, and I don't think a price hike on hardware will do so now.

This is the way I interpreted his tweet. I'm not really sure what MS is doing with the Scorpio, but it seems like they are fomenting hype and anticipation just to deliver one big disappointment.

If they have that priced at 399 than they have already failed. The system needs to launch at 399 to be successful. If it launches at 499 or higher than it's in big trouble.

of course Xbox Scorpio will launch at $399 and $499 for a more expensive sku
Xbox One launched at $499
Xbox One S launched at $399

do people here expect Xbox Scorpio to launch at $349 or what?
that's delusional

i do think we'll see the Xbox One S launch again.
The more expensive sku in limited quantities will launch in mid / late September or maybe early October.
The less expensive sku will follow in mid November

I honestly doubt Madden or Fifa will get much of a shout on these consoles, those titles are mainstream by nature. It makes more sense to push titles that appeal to the audience that would take interest in Scorpio ie a high fidelity RPG, shooter or adventure game.

Xbox One S had a 500GB $299 with Madden 17 right on the heels of the 2TB $399 launch edition. Then promptly went to $250 with Gears 4 or Battlefield 1 for Black Friday.

It's not out of the ordinary for some people to expect MS to price Scorpio competitively considering their competition has taken pretty much every meaningful marketing deal this Holiday and will most likely be cheaper across all SKUs (plus the Switch will grab some hardcore gamers attention this Holiday).

I thought about the idea that the Microsoft Store might sell multiple versions of Scorpio considering most Xbox fans already have multiple controllers, external hard drive, etc, like a $349 bare bones edition all the way up a $449 premium version with an elite controller, bigger hard drive. Though the more I think about it, those fans are the ones most willing to fork over the $399 - $499 for Scorpio anyways.

We already know Scorpio is a premium console so the question becomes, is Scorpio targeting hardcore gamers or just hardcore Xbox gamers? That question will determine the pricing options.

I legitimately forgot that Xbox One S launched at $399 for that 2Tb system. Looking at things now, I can't find a single One S bundle that doesn't include a game but the highest MSRP is $349.99.

If I had to bet, I'd say that all Xbox One S offerings will get a permanent $50 MSRP drop come summer/fall. That'd make them $250 and $300 "officially". On top of that, we'll definitely have retailer "limited time" offers that bring things down to $200 and $250.

I'm honestly kind of torn now on whether I think we'll see a Scorpio SKU that hits $349. That just seems too low even if the console doesn't include a game, but $449 seems too high when pitted against a potential price drop for the PS4 Pro.

and i said, they will do the same again
and if Scorpio will be included in the usual $50 off on Black Friday and for Christmas will all depend on the stock situation

You're assuming Scorpio will launch outside of November. Not much of a window to drop price if that's the case.

If Scorpio is just blanket targeting hardcore gamers expect a competitive price. If it's like the PS4 Pro and just targeting it's existing hardcore user base then expect a high price with limited supply and a stagnate price.

if the console will launch in November it won't get a price cut for BF
if the console will launch in September / October there is at least a chance for a temporarily price cut, depending on the stock situation and IF Microsofts wants to include the console to move more units.

of course right now all is based on assumptions and hypothetical

Probably a crazy idea, but I don't think Scorpio will even be shown until AFTER E3.

I mean Phil did say this E3 will be all about the games, and so people assumed they may show it before E3. But these days it's trendy to show a product close to release. Everyone though the PS4 Pro would be shown at last year's E3, but it wasn't. It was shown in the fall

No way that happens the E3 invitation already implies Scorpio. Plus I'm pretty sure Xbox peeps have said as much to expect it.

Doesn't make much sense in my mind to have the hardware reveal after E3. Announce before, then E3 can be all about games running and looking nicer on Scorpio, etc.

Interesting theory! I'd be in on this if they hadn't talked Scorpio already. Regardless of what they have to show at E3, the lack of Scorpio would probably dominate the discussion there.

FIFA 17 is also 4k/60 on Pro and nothing will change with Scorpio in UK/EU. You have some serious high expectations about Scorpio turning the tides.

Btw. Xbone and FIFA are in collaboration since beginning of this gen.
