Glad to hear about the framerate improvement. I downloaded the update just in time since I'll be on the road for a good chunk of time tomorrow.

...which were revealed many, many times through pre-release media and there's a huge collectathon centered around them. You know of them well before you get there, and if you're sensitive enough to consider that a spoiler, why the hell are you in a message board thread a month after the game released where people are obviously going to be discussing things at specific length?
I consider that getting more out of it than just a name, hence my post.

Definitely running a lot better docked on Switch. Places that had minor drops before now seem completely fixed, the few places where the framerate tanked before now just have minor drops.

What do you guys make of the docked performance so far?

Noticeable improvement across the board. I play exclusively in docked mode. Noticed that the frame rate was really steady in grassy areas, where I used to notice drops. It's not a perfect 30 frames per second all the time, but this patch certainly helps a lot.

Had a few free minutes so popped the game in, saw there was an update. Downloaded not expecting anything (and not knowing there was a patch) and wow...pretty remarkable upgrade. Almost no significant framerate drops in docked mode on the Switch. That's remarkable work.

Same, it seems like a useless patch for the wiiu.
I've said it before, the dlc's will be optimized for the switch, and this is all the proof you need.
I know right!
I don't even know why they released this game on the wiiu in the first place.
At least the emulator will fix this disaster of a version and make it the best of all.

And it happens to be absolutely nothing. There are
actual spoilers
within that forest, though, which aren't being detailed through the name. Nothing about the game is going to be ruined for anyone by someone saying hey Korok Forest runs a bit smoother and again if you consider something like that a spoiler, you shouldn't be visiting any threads on a message board about the game in the first place.

Nobody is at fault here for naming that forest. If you're that touchy, it's on you. Look, I fully believe in not blurting out spoilers publicly, but this is not a spoiler. And as has already been discussed prior, this isn't really the thread for this discussion. However, someone mentioned it'd be ridiculous if we have to spoiler tag every single little thing while talking about performance issues (which nobody on that severe a blackout should be looking at anyway but I digress) and I find that to be true.

I'm playing on wii U and just pulled another 2 hours of shrine hunting , checked the forest and kakariko out and both seemed better to me , don't think it was just a placebo effect. So they clearly tweaked something in the code that helped both consoles, it's just more pronounced on the switch which makes sense since it's got quite a bit more juice. This isn't some godsend patch for wii U owners but the parts plagued with slowdown seem to be a little more consistent - it looks like it's hitting 30 fps more often and the drops are lower. I've heard there's some dynamic resolution trickery happening here and well... that might actually be turned up a bit now too ... Kakariko looked just a bit fuzzier at points but if it means fewer dropped frames then I'm all for it. That this game engine works at all on something as CPU starved as a wii U is a pretty amazing feat.

All I can say is that I can't wait for the Zelda game built for the Switch. I'm no tech head so I can't say whether or not it being a Wii U shindig has anything to do with how it runs on Switch, but I'm guessing it has something to do with it? Like if it were built on Switch I believe it'd be more optimized?

The game runs mostly fine, but it was a drawback against the otherwise amazing experience at times. But again I can't wait for the Switch Zelda proper.

I went to go check out
Korok Forest
, framerate is still absolutely terrible. As far as I can tell, this patch didn't do anything for my experience.

how long was BOTW in development? I'm not even sure we'll get a brand new Zelda exclusively for the switch

I just got to the forest area today and it was a completely slides show.

It was docked on switch.

It was ambarrasingly bad. I hope this is better but I also have to question why the game shipped in such a bad fps state.

Is this the first patch Nintendo has done to fix fps?

No doubt in my mind there will be a Switch exclusive Zelda unless the system tanks even worse than the Wii U and even then it'd still likely be released on Switch with a port for the next Nintendo console :p

IIRC active development began in 2013.

They needed to sell 2 million Switches before the end of their financial year (March 31), and there was no way that's happening without Zelda available on launch, that's why.

Just jumped from the Shrine in KV and tried every way possible to trigger a slowdown and couldn't. I wish it started raining, thats the real test.

Still playing on the launch version, even in portable mode that forest struggles. I'm totally willing to believe the framerate could be massively improved in 99% of areas and still have problems there.

Because Nintendo wasn't going to launch the Switch without it.

Maybe paranoid, but I just tried it and it seems like some special effects or graphics/resolution were dialed back to get an improved frame rate. I can't wait for DF to come through with some official analysis to see what Nintendo did to improve the framerate. Anybody else notice graphical differences in docked mode?

Could be paranoia, but grass looks worse, red grid special effects from magnises seems to be reduced which causes less slowdown. Was BotW confirmed to have adaptive vsync, because I could have sworn I saw slight tearing in the stone ground textures in the great plateau while adjusting my camera. Linear filtering seems worse and more blurry than I remember. The ground seems to blur closer to Link than ever.

I could be smoking it, but would like to know if others have noticed any downgrades to the games graphics or resolution?

Splatoon had an update that fixed the fps in the hub and made it a stable. There was also a Miiplaza update that made it go from 30fps to 60fps.

So a couple, but not often.

Wii U player here.

Holy moley this runs much better! I was in a village during a storm, ran like piss. Just got the update, loaded up the rainy village again and it feels like a solid 30 fps now. I'm impressed!

Enormous improvement in that one woods area. Undocked is to the point where I have to try and notice any hitches while docked still has some drops but is still a huge improvement over what it was before.

Man, this seems to be a lot better than before and I just spent 3 hours playing it before I closed out and downloaded the patch.
