Persona 5 ships over 1.5 million copies worldwide

It's not unreasonable. It's reviewed better and definitely looks better.

...it's a nice thought at least.

That means nothing, ME will easily easily sell over 4/5 million like that.

Persona 4 only got to 2 million sold across 2 titles.

Persona 5 reaching 2 million with just this initially release will be great.

Good!

Game deserves a TON more sales. This is proof that JRPGs can really shine to this day. Turn based combat isn't "dead" or "archaic". Fantastic characters and plot so far, and of course the soundtrack is stellar.

Spread the word folks. This one deserves all the hype and love it can get...even if Atlus is drunk in some other aspects these days.

Shipment for Japan was 550k, it also came out in Asia before the release in the west so its not necesarily 1m since Tuesday, nonetheless great result.

Maybe not Atlus' best selling game but certainly the fastest.

It honestly really is. Happy to see this kinds of games from Japan having solid success stories recently. It bodes really well for the future that these sort of games still have demand.

Also great start in the West for P5

Super well-deserved. Atlus outdid themselves. I. am. /addicted/. to this game. In a way that I haven't been with a game in a long while.

Kazuo Hirai

I really want everyone to know how much more Titanfall 2 sold than Nioh. It was a staggering amount.
Asia version published at 3/23, and Atlus said "Asia is our most important market now"

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I just need to know if The Last Guardian will hit (or has hit) 1m.

I was happy reading Nier sales thread, but I was thinking it will be a shame that Persona 5 won't reach those numbers just because it's turn based.

This makes me so so so happy.

Game of the gen for me so far.

Yup. They might not be selling huge AAA numbers but I don't think anyone has expected them too. They have been critical darlings though.

Legend of Zelda: BOTW: 97
Persona 5: 94
Nier: Automata: 88
Nioh: 88
RE7: 86
Yakuza 0: 85
Gravity Rush 2: 80
Tales of Berseria: 80

Japan has done fantastic for the first quarter of 2017.

I'm thinking of adding to that number. Got bored of ME:A already. I really want a different RPG and not just shooting people in the face all night. Never played a Persona game before though.

Atlus to buy Bioware in 2018. Mass Effect 4 to take place in Okinawa. Normandy Velvet Room, news at 11.

Personal anecdote, but I know at least 3 people who don't play any modern jrpgs and aren't fans of anime aesthetics, but gave P4G a chance, loved it and bought P5 day one.
It's not much different than South Park TSoT - gameplay might be old school, but you add an interesting story and well written characters into it and it'll get almost anyone hooked.

I hope they port it to Switch eventually. I miss being able to play P4 on Vita. P5 on handheld sounds amazing.

I remember Nagoshi saying that they were shocked at how well Yakuza performed in Asia, and that because of that performance they began to prioritize those translations.
They sell much more than they do in the west, Yakuza Kiwami even sold more in Asia than what it did in Japan.

There's a good reason Yakuza 6 came out the same date in Japan and Asia and its still a year away in english.

I'm excited to see Nioh, NieR, and Persona hit "Dark Souls" territory of "niche." I imagine their sequels will be getting stage time at E3 in the years to come (NieR's announcement was a throwaway at a conference for Just Cause 3, oh the irony).

Dark souls is not niche in any way and P5 not going get any where near them.
Still very nice sales.

Unless the anime style turns you off completely then there is no reason to skip over this. It isn't just a good JRPG, it's a great RPG and game in general. Bigger JRPGs like FFXV have like 1/10th of the soul that Persona 5 does.

Technically your playing a third-person shooter with light RPG mechanics.
Remote play is perfect. Knowing Atlus they'll release it on Vita. They made Persona 4 on PS2 in 2008....
If an updated version is on the Vita it will be a graphical downgrade. There's no way the Vita could handle some of the visuals of P5.

It feels like high quality "niche" games this generation end up beating expectations. It seems like surprising bombas don't happen as much.
