The market overall is getting hit so don't know how much of real impact the news is having on the stock .

We will have to wait till the end of the week.
So far there is a lot of outcry on social media and a only few here and there that are defending the actions of the airline .

The CEO fucked up. I hoping to see some policy changes .
I'm surprised other airlines haven't said anything about this.

I know absolutely nothing about this domain, but I am curious, would a system that allow individuals know that they "overbooked" (such as being individuals booking for a flight on an already full plane), and that a mention is made accordingly on their tickets, with only those being removed if the situation arose?

or is this how it is already done?

You should watch the documentary Hot Coffee- they talk about how McDonalds paid a PR firm to spread rumors that the woman who burned two massive holes in her thighs that were so big the femur was exposed was just a whiny little bitch who spilled a little coffee on herself on purpose to sue McDonalds. Tort reform bullshit.

That is exactly what is happening here.

Coffee burned her flesh to the bone? Did they flavor it with acid instead of cream? That coffee would need to be beyond hot. Holy shit.

Of course large corporations gonna try damage control though. Not surprising, although the story would blow over much more quickly if they showed genuine remorse, and provided a real apology, no matter who they feel was in the wrong.

They would have to advertise that ticket as being cheaper otherwise there is no reason the consumer wouldn't book elsewhere. They leave it to the moment of, with airline fun bucks to maximize their profit on the flight.

MSNBC is now saying he has previous issues in the past. Well there it is. Apparently it was not even law enforcement that removed him. How can private rent a cops legally remove a passenger?

Some of them do this when you check in. They tell you the flight is oversold and allow you to put in a "bid" number of how much it would take to bump before you even get to the airport. The problem is this flight WASN'T oversold. They bumped people due to poor planning on their part.

The cop? Apparently it's the Chicago Department of Aviation security rather than the Chicago PD. So "security" rather than police. Airport goons.

Chicago has two law-enforcement forces that patrol O’Hare and Midway airports: the Chicago Police Department, whose officers are armed, and Department of Aviation police, whose officers are unarmed. Aviation officers alone handled the situation aboard the United flight.

A spokesman for Service Employees International Union Local 73, which represents Chicago’s aviation security officers, said “the incident that occurred on United Flight 3411 was an unfortunate one. We are aware the Chicago Department of Aviation is investigating the incident, and we will reserve further comment until the investigation is completed.”

and "suspension"

“The incident on United flight 3411 was not in accordance with our standard operating procedure and the actions of the aviation security officer are obviously not condoned,” Aviation Department spokeswoman Karen Pride said. “That officer has been placed on leave effective today pending a thorough review of the situation.”

I feel awful for the guy. He never asked to have his bloodied face on TV 24/7, publicly humiliated, and now have opportunistic slime digging up whatever dirt they can to smear his name. He just wanted to go home on the flight he was seated on for the patients expecting him the next day. Anything else is completely irrelevant but news outlets can't help themselves if it means keeping a popular story going. Having the CEO of United leading the "he was no angel" charge is fucking gross, along with the whole overbooking explanation that didn't actually occur.

Twitter calmly letting the journalist who wrote the hit piece know that it was a mistake to drag the victim through the mud.

Yeah that documentary was well worth checking out. The photos of her burns though....that was a hard scene to watch.

And with the media's smear campaign in full effect, I'm just about done with the attitude of the power players in this country.

Is United a big sponsor of MSNBC?

Pretty sure the software they used to randomly select people to force off the plane did background checks on everyone and picked the most shadey passengers.

IIRC, the coffee was at a rolling boil.

Yeah, fuck every last media outlet that's talking about this guy's past. Even if that's not their intent (because really their sole intent here is clicks) it pushes the narrative that his treatment was somehow justified.

Its been a hot topic in the office this morning, we fly alot from NYC to California and Texas areas. We don't think this has anything to do with overbooking issue. Most overbooking issue was taken care off in front of the check in counter. You'll be denied boarding or check in, have never seem a person being ask to leave the plane when they're seated. This is clearly a last minute change where United needs to get 4 of their employees to their destination so they forces 4 paying passengers to gave up their seats. (with compensation of course.)

Just felt disgusted all around seeing an old man dragged out of the plane like that.....

Not sure if it's real but if it is, what a timely update to their app

EDIT: it's fake!, it's still pretty good :>

That smear campaign is gross but not unexpected considering how lowest denominator a lot of modern "News" outlets are

Oh how can we get even more views? Let's try to tear apart the victim, that'll get views

yo he could turn out to be the reanimated corpse of Bin Laden in disguise and I would still have his back in this instance. Fuck United and anyone who is smearing him.

Old man beaten bloody by corporate goons, overwhelming response is "well he should have just complied" "he was no angel".

Wonder why our country is going down the shitter.

If any airline asked me to vacate my seat (which they have every right to do) then I would leave the plane and take my voucher for the next flight and move on with my day. Fighting with the airline staff, or even worse fighting with security guards is never going to help the situation.

27 pages worth of reasons and you skipped all of them.

You can't make this shit up.

Just to be clear I never defended the actions taken by those Airport Police Officers, obviously it was excessive force. I'm only speaking as to what I would do if I found myself in a similar situation.

That's great insight into what you would do, so fucking what?!

I hate how United is choosing to ignore and not respond to people who are engaging them on social media about the issue. What a bunch of wimpy cowards they are (United)

Keep bowing your head to authority. Nothing wrong can come from that.

Wooooooooooow. What does this have to do with anything?

So...Trump was right about the media? I need to get out of this timeline.

They're trying to dig up dirt on this guy's past? Wtf?

I hate the state of this world.

Gotta make sure that certain people don't get uncomfortable with the status quo. Dig up some dirt on the victims so they can use it a flimsy justification that the victims deserve whatever comes to them, and not that the powers that be are abusing their power whenever they see fit.

This is why I balked so hard at the people continually mentioning the fact he is a doctor. You don't get to use his profession as a way to amplify the inappropriateness of the situation and then complain when his past is used to attempt to justify it. I know they aren't exactly the same, but the motive is.
