Bandai Namco is so sad that Dark Souls is over. Would not be surprised if they wanted to try and continue something similar themselves.

The more Souls clones the better. I strongly believe that the formula has always been better than the Dark Souls games themselves.

As long as the clones actually include features that are, in my opinion, essential to the concept.
Like summons and invasions.
Which many (most?) other attempts at the subgenre have omitted so far.

It's a worldwide trailer, so my guess would be dedicated devices with a Japanese developer of some sort (possibly Namco itself), since I'm not sure they would bother teasing a mobile game abroad, or a Western game in Japan, at least right off the bat.

After Kadokawa bought From and it was clear that they (probably) wouldn't work with Bamco anymore i always thought that they would come up with a Souls like game themselves. I mean the Souls games were such massive hits for them, no way they would just let them go without at least trying do something that fills that spot. Maybe this could be that something.

I just realized how much I will hate Bandai Namco and From Software if they announce a Souls game with this kind of animations and art, lol. I almost had a heart attack.

Super eye roll at Namco for that marketing ploy.... prepare to dine...really? Anything to keep the souls fandom they're inevitably going to lose of FROM stops working with them.

Maybe the kind of "fandom" who argues ad nauseam over the perceived sins of the "B-team", or writes up 3000 word essays about obscure lore aspects.

But I don't see why they couldn't retain most of the millions of people who bought Dark Souls 3 at full price if they manage to create a competent game in the same genre. And I'm pretty sure they care more about those.

Didn't Phil just come back from Japan? Bandai seem pretty chill with MS? A souls clone would be a a good get for them...

Fanfiction is reaching new heights at the moment.

Why would namco announce this instead of MS themselves if that were to be the case?

This is absolutely Bamco trying to riff on Souls now that From has stepped away. It looks like a decent premise, but then you remember Slashy Souls...

Lords of the Fallen already exists since a couple years. And of course if Bamco can't get FROM again they'll try to get the lightning in a bottle back in some other way.

I don't care what this is, or what platform it's released on, as long as it's good. I loved everything about that trailer. The music and ambience were haunting and dark in a really tasteful way, and I love the aesthetic. I can't wait to see more of this.
