Nope.

Unless something drastically changes it will obviously be Dan's pick. Brad seems super positive on it too, but I can't wait to see Jeff argue it down.

He'll argue that and weapon degradation, along with saying the story and characters are more interesting in Horizon.
Aren't Vinny and Alex also very high on Zelda? Seems like Jeff has gotten way, way more positive towards Zelda the last few podcast.

I don't think Horizon will get GOTY.

No way Horizon gets GOTY over Zelda. It'll be everyone against Jeff and while he has legitimate gripes he also recognizes what it is

And MGSV would've been so much better if it was just 10 sequences of Ground Zeroes

zelda doesn't deserve GOTY but it'll get it anyways. GOTY awards are rarely right (except for the Mario Maker year, that is an outlier of correctness and best decision making).

In the end I think even with his gripes Jeff is super positive on Zelda, and I can see him being more excited about letting it taking top spot as opposed to hyper passive aggressive like with other games he doesn't agree with.

I can feel my opinion on BotW kind of turning as the days go by. I started out madly in love with that game, like really being impressed by how it managed to finally present me with an interesting open world primed to respond to how one fucks around with the game's mechanics. And the map design is just SO goddamn good; you can just really appreciate how they prioritized having the topography of the land matter as much as its

content.

But, man, the more I think about it, the less I like the critical path stuff. The dungeons, while conceptually very interesting, tended to be very simple, with puzzle solutions being more about executing a solution that the player can pretty much immediately decipher at first glance. I also feel like there's a disconnect in how most of the dungeon puzzles/bosses and how they don't exactly incentivize the experimentation one usually does in the open world (with a couple of exceptions for sure).

But, yeah, the dungeons are just kind of a bummer and the bosses really suck. The game definitely deserves recognition for what it does right, though.

Along with the menu being clunky for zelda, horizon having superior graphics, and having a more interestin lead

Edit: guess I should finally watch f7

The critical path is the worst part of the game. The story stuff is meh, the dungeons are bland, and the bosses suck. There's also a striking lack of enemies. The genius of the game though is that it's all optional. If you don't like the story stuff just explore until you're bored and beat the game. And the exploration part blows every other game out of the water. Like there are so many smart decisions in the world design, the systems, and mechanics that I've been wishing I was back in college so I could write a senior thesis on it. It's literally unfair to me to compare it to other open world games because they all feel amateur compared to it. Its highs so massively outweigh the lows for me that I still feel the same way about it as I did when I finish it. I could write a 5 page paper on all the problems the game has, but even with those problems it still sits head and shoulders above other games that I'd consider "perfect" with no issues

Whaaat, rad. I wish it had real teams so bad, but this is the next best thing.

If you want that, the Out of the Park Baseball series on PC does exactly that. I love creating custom leagues in that game, but I also like expanding MLB. In my current save, I added two teams to the majors, bringing the total to 32 teams. As a result, I realigned each league, creating four divisions per league (instead of three) with four teams per division (instead of five) (similar to NFL's alignment).

As for Super Mega Baseball 2, I wonder who'll make the first Giant Bomb themed team.

Yeah the critical path stuff is pretty weak, everything story related ive been pretty nonplussed about so far...but im still having a ton of fun. The enemy variety is pretty jarring though.

Botw is literally a Ubi game with Zelda

bad opinions are bad

I heard super mega baseball was super fun but never tried it because I couldn't play as my future World Series champion Rockies. Hopefully the sequel comes out on switch, would be a great fit.

If you haven't yet, you should watch the Quick Look. It's a Dan/Jeff one and is very amusing. As for 2, it appears they are only releasing it on PS3/PS4/XB1/PC. Personally, I do think they should drop PS3 and "snap" switch "snap" development to the Switch.

Also, I wonder how long it will take for people to fully recreate MLB (with correct rosters) in Super Mega Baseball 2. You know someone will do it.

BotW is going to be GotY, unless Mario odyssey comes out in December and is mind blowing. I can't picture any other game this year surpassing it. It will be well deserved too. I agree the critical path is the weakest part of the game but the world Nintendo made is incredible. It shows by how we are still having in depth talks about it a month and a half later. Not many games get that kind of time these days.

TBF I feel like the in-depth talks is usually about the same thing.

But yeah, while it's not my GotY I can recognise that it is an amazing realised world with one of the best procedural systems for such a world.

Also shows you can do that and not be a buggy, janky PoS *eyes bethesda*

?

BotW is the least buggy actual open world game I've played in awhile. I feel like it's a pretty common sentiment?
