First screenshots of Bandai Namco's Code Vein (UE4, consoles, 2018)

Changed my mind. Less gas masks

Between this, SMT V, Granblue Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts 3, and
Monster Hunter 5
, it looks like 2018 is going to keep the JP ball of quality rolling all Katamari-like.

Well of course, there it is, zettai ryouki.

Why? She has a nice costume otherwise. That part killed her overall aesthetic.

Had to google that term. Hah, learnt something new

This is obviously for the waifu husbando anime crowd. It can't be helped. I think they're nailing the sexy/awesome/crazy look they're going for. Merch sales and fanart will be through the roof

Same for the dudes. Look at the abs and the bulge

IKR??

We'll have plenty of other Japanese games next year with killer art styles. GAF, you will learn to appreciate the edge! Embrace your inner edge!

Feels more God Eater than souls but I'm in

so in

It really baffles me why BN thought it would be a good idea to use that tagline for the initial tease.

I mean, I think I understand what they were trying to do (get the attention of Souls fans?), but it seems like a really cheap and "pushy" move when Code Vein seems to have a style and substance all of its own.

You get these kinds of "hmm, where's the Souls?" comments, as if CV had anything to do with Souls in the first place. Even hardcore fans on Reddit were confused by the reveal.

Looking at these images, I now have a good reason to be interested, if not excited for this new IP. Not because of some hackneyed attempt at coat-tailing off of a marketing campaign that was flawed and unsuited to its intended product to begin with.

Yeah I was worried about that from the start. I hope they stop that line of marketing from here on out, or they'll mislead a lot of people

Katamari-like.

:(

I want Japanese devs to continue to use UE4, if it helps them continue to make core games like this

Anyone else feel similarly?

All these screenshots look pretty sweet. I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye out for future news about this game.

The God Eater team plus that artstyle--which I expected--means this is a hard pass from me. Their spin on Monster Hunter wasn't great, so I don't have high hopes for this either.

It's an absolute dream isn't it? The more the merrier, which is half the reason I'm not sour on the art style. I'll have a side of dark and edgy with my lush and colorful thank you very much.

:p

Ridiculous they still haven't said what it's coming too. I said kart night that the worst we'd get today is "hey guys, here's our new game, it's going to be awesome, please wait until may for more info" and that's basically what we got :/

We already knew about that in the previous thread, source code is no guarentee and can even mislead

It's a slightly different situation to, say, the mention of PC on the FFXV site due to reused code. In this case, the tags refer to the tags that Bamco applied to the video when uploading it to YouTube. While we're still short of formal confirmation, thereby meaning "consoles" is accurate as that's the only officially-communicated information we have on the matter, it's safe to assume that the PS4, X1 and PC are the intended platforms -- at least for now.

Nope I have a Switch. I'm just sick of Switch portbeggers. They pollute every topic.
That was a quick ban.

Oh well. Backseat mods never learn.

I wonder if the two-player co-op has a story mechanic tied to it. Like the old rumors about the Death Stranding umbilical cord thing.

That would mean abandoning the PS3

Christ they need to abandon the PS3

That seems to be the plan

Fukaya-san explained that when development of Tales of Berseria started, the PS3 was the most popular PlayStation console in the world, but now, especially in the west, the audience is shifting to PS4 much faster than in Japan. That’s why the game is skipping a PS3 release in North America and Europe.

That said, he clarified that Tales of Berseria will probably be the last title of the series released on PS3. For now there’s no information to give about the next Tales Of game, but if it was to be released exclusively for the current generation of consoles, it could make full use of the specs of the PS4.

Fukuya-san’s personal idea is that one of the improvements that could be generated by committing fully to the current generation is the implementation of seamless transitions between exploration and battle.

The next Tales Of game needs to look as good as these.

Its weird how a new IP can get this kind of graphical detail with a brand new engine, but tales has to continue to coast along on an engine that they have largely been bolting things onto since symphonia apparently

I'm sure Namco will come to their senses and make the switch to UE4 for Tales.

Reminds me of that Vita Itagaki game that flopped.

Aside from that I guess it looks interesting... always good to see new IPs.

Since the game is not THAT far into development I hope they give the environment a bit more of an anime touch so the contrast isn't that hard. It's like the textures are TOO detailed.

Otherwise I like it

What happened to the prepare to dine art ?

This is not nearly as interesting.

it said during the actual prepare to dine teaser that it was a teaser video based on the upcoming game. It didn't say anything about representing the actual game's art or being a literal trailer for the game itself

also, i'm kinda hoping that the devs have brushed up their combat skills. God eater is okay but the combat is so low budget, you can tell its PSP turned vita game turned PS4/PC game..although Toukiden actually does have good combat coming from the same type of situation
