Gotta manufacture something to shit on cod about I guess
Yeah, who wants to hear the story of black men who are fighting for freedom for a country were a black can be killed and no one would care.I'm not looking for diversity in a WW2 game. I just want historical accuracy and good gameplay.
Well that too but this is from my personal experience not what Microsoft gave them money wise.I thought that "Xbox Fans" joke was because MS invested heavily in Polygon when it was created.
"COD WWIIs diversity is nothing more than marketing"
"they want you to think this is a more inclusive tale of World War II. It may yet be. We wont know until Nov. 3."
This article is credited to not one, but two writers. Holy shit.
Weve got a private multiplayer beta; weve got zombies; weve got black people, weve got women, weve got a Jew.

Simply epic.
I'm serious though. Activision and all developers under the Call of Duty umbrella were getting flack for years because the series strayed too far away from what made it great in its heyday. Now they've seemingly
gone back to that and you have Polygon looking for something brand new to complain about.

We got forty nations, ready to roll, son!
Aren't there some shit sites that are banned from gaf? I'm surprised Polygon isn't on the list yet. Should atleast have to use an archive link so you don't give them any more clicks
They sometimes have good articles, and then they have stuff like this. Polygon is a wild card. They're sometimes being really dumb but they don't deserve a ban.

This article is nonsense. But, saying you can't want something now because you didn't want it ten years ago also doesn't make sense.
"Historical Accuracy"
Like who?
Despite the trailer not having much of wht they have talked about, i'm actually very happy Sledgehammer is taking on the challenge of attempting to present a more inclusive take on WW2. Whether or it hits the right notes is unknown, but i'm glad they are doing it.
I wanted Treyarch to go back to WW2 themselves and do a more morally grey retread of the pacific war, showing the side of the Japanese beyond the mustache twirling villains, and a more nuanced take on war. I think they were primed to really branch out and take risks like that especially after W@W, BO1 and BO2 being great games with good stories.
Instead we got.....train go boom.
What the fuck does Polygon want
They are obviously pushing diversity as far as they can in the setting of WW2, and it still isn't good enough.
Polygon should just stick to making Youtube content, at least that is consistently good
guess they just tried to make people click on their article

How can anyone in their right mind assume that a game this size is an all-white production. Even if the game director wasn't black and featured in the reveal vids it would be crazy to assume that on a big team like this there wouldn't be a single black, hispanic, middle eatern or asian developper employed.
article said:Activision and Sledgehammer Games pulled the wrapper off their glamour franchise today, and despite the exclusively white and male makeup of those doing so on stage, they want you to think this is a more inclusive tale of World War II. It may yet be. We wont know until Nov. 3.
For now, the tone-deaf manner in which this all-white production checked all the diversity boxes women, an African-American unit and even a child reduced everyone else to a bullet point on the back of a box, yet another feature. Weve got a private multiplayer beta; weve got zombies; weve got black people, weve got women, weve got a Jew.

Define "good"

Did you just move this post because it was post #50 and you thought no one would read it?
smh. Anyone you would want to read it is already using 100pp anyway!
Waiting for someone else to get post 50 then posting is the superior way of doing this
Video game criticism was in it's infancy. There wasn't a lot of people thinking about diversity and culture back then.
If only people would care less about skin color.
They were talking about the stage production anyway. For all the shit people give Polygon, they could at least actually read what they're slamming.
Read the article. They were talking directly about the stage show and the people who were there.
polygon v call of duty
no matter who wins, we lose

Car Boys
Touch the Skyrim
Monster Factory
Peace Craft
Griffin's Amiibo Corner
Griffin's Nuzlocke Challenge
All of their original stuff is great
Griffin McElroy is great. Unfortunately he works at polygon for some unknown reason.
I don't see why not. Publishers don't need the games media/press anymore, they can find some hip dude on the youtubez that'll love the game with or without getting paid, and who probably has more followers.Activision*
but that's never going to happen.
I hope EA blacklists Polygon for such a shitty accusation.
The premise isn't entirely wrong. Anything and everything in a mega-franchise like CoD is going to be driven by market research and a desire to make the thing more broadly appealing and profitable. A bit cynical, sure, but it's good to have a little suspicion and view any huge project through that lens sometimes.
That said, it's not necessarily a bad thing either. A concept (such as diversity) becoming marketable is sort of the ultimate stamp of approval under capitalism, so it certainly means we'll be seeing more of it. I also give CoD credit for being pretty consistently on message about this since adding female playable characters a few years back.
That's part of the problem with having games set in historical settings. Deviating too far from history can become an issue. However, I have't played the game yet so I will reserve judgement.
