What happened to that female guitarist with the name that started with O? She had like a pop song that seemed pretty popular and I thought she was going to be a big deal.

No idea, but it reminded me of Karen O form Yeah Yeah Yeahs, which I guess kinda fits the thread. Kinda, because they apparently had an album in 2013 - although I don't know if it was any big.

Orianthi? She seems to be under the radar these days but she's been constantly touring. I think she tours with Ritchie Samboras band at the moment

A few mentioned Akon; he signed Lady Gaga to his record label years ago and then cashed out on her success shortly before her popularity waned a bit.

Can we talk about the iconic Mandy Moore run?

That whole Xtina/Britney feud needs a good deep dive on all the inner workings of the drama.

James Van Deer Beek had a good few year run there for a second.

Brook Hogan had a good 6.75 months of stardom going on with her music "career".

*Pours out likka for all the myspace "stars" that flamed out getting that good check*

Ricky Martin

Dude is still insanely popular in Latin America. His last few videos have almost 800 million views each on YT. Enrique Iglesias and Shakira are also still very popular and cranking out hits.

Not a pop artist, but what happened to Dashboard Confessional? They were on the radio for quite a while for that Spider-Man song and Stolen.

I don't keep up much, but dashboard is usually at summerfest in Milwaukee every year. No clue if they still like, release new stuff tho.

Whatever happened to Sugar Ray?

They go on tour every year with Everclear. I went to one of their shows last year, and it was surprisingly good. The singer is very charismatic and gives out a lot of energy. Mark said they can't write new music. Legal stuff according to him.

A few of their long-time members quit several years back which put the band in a bit of a limbo. They still regularly tour but legal issues with the ex-members are preventing any new recorded material.

hip hop especially mainstream is all about trends. Most artists get phased out, you got a few old guys here and there but yeah it's a young genre and people become washed to the younger folks. It's probably the same with pop, though that mainly has to do with whether the song is a hit and it's popularity if anything

Amazed that people name Ricky Martin, Sean Paul and also others. Many of these artists have current hits more or less and this information is just two mouseclicks away! Do your research before posting ;-P

All of these names and artists popping up just confirms to me how much better the 00's was in music compared to the 10's. There's a lot of trash nowadays but I won't lie that there wasn't any in 00's either. I think on the whole I preferred music back then.

Shania twain get mentioned yet? Apparently she retired from music for awhile due to losing her voice somewhat.

Akon is a good one. Was listening to an album of house hits and he made a cameo. Almost forgot how he sound

Christina Aguilera and Nelly Furtado made some good stuff recently though.

Not sure if I'll get shit over it, as I wouldn't say she was a pop star, maybe pop rock-ish? But what ever happened to the musician that did the theme to the first Dead Rising game, Drea Guinness, back in 2005? Song was great, and she sounded great, and I just sorta assumed she got a career since the game was huge. Doesnt even show up on google now! Guess not?

P!nk just did Alice Through the Looking Glass's theme "Just Like Fire," and that shit got super overplayed on pop and alternative stations.

As for my pick, Christina Aguilera. I know she's still on that idol show or whatnot, but where her music career at?

I heard that song too many times at the Subway I worked at last Summer, and when I looked it up to see who sang it I was shocked to find out that Pink is still around. Why?
