I'm not saying GAF represents the market lol
I'm saying you can even see it on GAF. The Japanese success is evidence of Playstation having such an audience.
.
Sure JP games do better on PS4, but at the same time, didn't FFXV actually do quite well on XB1?
Also to the whole Capcom discussion, there's no question that Capcom isn't doing well. While they're still making profits, basically all of their franchises are stagnant or declining.
MHXX is probably partly franchise fatigue of gen 4 imo. Being an expansion of a spinoff and the 5th traditional MH game on 3DS, 1.7M isn't all that shabby imo. Still something for Capcom to look into.
RE7 is disappointing. With franchises, you typically want to grow. Given that RE7 has clearly sold much less than RE6, and didn't even meet the very lowered expectations, that's just not a good look for the franchise. Especially when RE7 was actually reviewed well and RE6 wasn't. I honestly think it'd be worth it to go back to the action oriented gameplay, at least in a subseries.
HD ports doing well is nice supplementary income but doesn't come close to solving any of their main problems.
DR4 doing badly isn't that surprising. It looks kind of mediocre and didn't have the benefit of launch that DR3 had.
MHStories seems unfortunate. It looks like they put a lot of effort into making a good product, but it didn't click with the audience they were looking for. 300K isn't that bad, but they put a lot more investment than that. Maybe it'll do alright in the West. If MHStories were to outsell MH4U in the West, that'd be an accomplishment right?
Most importantly though, where are the upcoming games from Capcom? If I'm not mistaken, apart from Great Ace Attorney 2, USF2HD & Disney Afternoon Collection, they have nothing announced that they're working on? I'm sure MH5 or something is in the works, but that's a paltry amount of games they're seemingly working on. I feel that given their output is so small they either need to have their games be huge successes or they're not in great shape. Like there's not even a game in development to say "oh that'll do well" or anything. In terms of new IPs this generation, what have they even done? I guess they tried MHStories & the Great Ace Attorney spinoffs, but anything else (Gaist Crusher back in the day too)?
