Mario Kart 8 Deluxe |OT| Deluxe Salt

Got first twice in a row in worldwide races. Way easier than racing GAF.

Edit: Three times now. This is baby mode.

Edit2: Four times I am the God of Mario Kart.

I tried using just a single Joy-con for the first time and I will never play that way again. I have tiny Trump hands too so I can only imagine the discomfort for those of you with larger hands. Really enjoying the game though when I use split Joy-cons.

Just played 2p with single joycons, works fine imo and we've got decent-sized hands. Need to use the straps though for better shoulder buttons.

Never played the Wii version - feel like I'm years behind on the meta or any kind of strategy - any read up on technique or kart type or character benefits? lol

Also, This game makes me angry

The online is pretty disappointing connection wise it really doesn't leave me feeling confident in the service, especially when we start paying for it.

MK8's online is basically just connecting consoles between themselves and choosing a (unaware) host. I wouldn't pay anything for MK alone since it's basically why Nintendo's online has been free in the first place, lol.

Yes it's been far less consistent than wii u. I'm hoping it's just backend bugs as opposed to the shitty built in wifi.

Did you use the one joy-con scheme for a lengthy amount of time or we talking short sessions here and there.

I don't think Nintendo intended for them to be used in longer sessions anyway so I can still see the genius of their design, they are just way too cramped for me.

Yesterday I wasn't having any issues but today it's like every other race I'm getting an error. This is a big problem

anecdotally, i am in australia and have one of the shittest internet connections in the world. and i've been playing online all day without a single problem. playing against people from america, japan, germany. no issues. no lag. seamless.

Great. Visiting my parents house, and no online games on switch seem to work. I think work in my university though.

Great stuff Nintendo... so a big portion of the game is basically unplayable. Unbelievable bullshit.

To be fair this thing also applies to every console online multiplayer games. Might as well talk to your network service provider to provide a much better solution.

I bought 4 of these babies and pretty happy about it.

Does anyone else find 8's tracks slightly too... busy? I don't mind myself, but I'm probably the sole 'core' Mario Kart player or whatever you want to call it among a group of mostly casual players for local multiplayer, and they're all often quite bewildered by track layouts. There's just so much going on visually, and lots of them want to return to MKWii, which is not what I was expecting.

I think I prefer playing with the Joycon over my pro controller, honestly. I think the long travel of the stick on the Pro makes handling a bit more tedious. Maybe I'm crazy, but I know my time trial numbers back that up a bit.

I also like the Joy-Cons over my Pro controller which sucks because my left Joy-Con definitely has syncing issues.

Reminder that Wii U MK8 launch was just like this. Communication errors abound because of the amount of people online, really congested/traffic-filled matchmaking servers led to the errors being very common for the first week. After the first week, things got better and from there it was just a rare occurrence on Wii U. (I would know this because I vividly remember getting a lot of comm. errors in GAF tourneys the first week)

And then, like... of course the Wii U version is going to be "more consistent" at this point because the player pool has shrunk. Less people playing means more consistent connections and all that.

It's just launch week woes.

I'm still a scrub making my way through the single player races before even looking at online but look forward to joining you folks and getting my ass handed to me. Questions :

Can you swap what item you want to use?
Is gliding faster than driving?

Online is pants for casual gamers like myself.

I seem to keep getting matched with high ranking players that always finish at the front. I don't stand a chance.

Really off-putting.
