Spider-Man 3.1 (New cut supervised by Sam Raimi) included in Japanese SM Trilogy Set

Will Venom be masked and present for longer than three scenes?
Will the dancing scene be cut?
Will Topher Grace be more than a scrawny little punk who can't take being bested?
Was Mary Jane's singing cut?

If not, keep it. Spider-Man 3 broke my heart once, not again, thanks.

How much demand is there really for an extended cut of a shitty movie that killed a franchise from 10 years ago? These things cost money to produce. Very unexpected.

It would be interesting if they not only slipped in some deleted content, but also removed some existing content. If you're getting the luxury of a new cut rerelease, why not take the opportunity to give the film a tune-up, right?

Spider-man 3.1 137 minutes. Original version is 139 minutes.

Despite it's a bad film, I still really wanna see the new cut.

Wow, it's shorter than the original? So they might have actually done as I suggested above.
Okay, I'm a bit interested now. That's a little more substantial.

If the set includes 2.1 also then I may actually get this. I'm not the biggest fan of the Raimi series as a whole and I don't own any of them on bluray, but for the right price this might finally sway me if the above is true.

ahh, pure bull then. Thanks :)

Actually, I'm pretty sure you're right. I recall reading the same thing in interviews. Can anyone back us up on this?

Edit: Yep. From Imdb:

Originally, the butler was to be another illusion of Harry's, representing his good side. Even though this idea would have cleared up a massive plot hole (the butler waited to explain to Harry that his father's wounds were not an accident after such a long time), it was cut.

More Eric from that 70's Show instead of Venom's face?

Just give me more Emo Peter dancing and I'll actually watch this.

Unless they edit out Topher Grace and Sandman being Uncle Ben's killer I don't think there is much good an extended cut could do.

I would rather watch ASM2 while being waterboarded than watch SM3 again.

I have problems with ASM2, but I would have taken another with a more solid screenplay. Electro was goofy but fun to watch in action and any other issues I had were from Orci and Kurtzman's writing more than Marc Webb's directing or how competently shot that I felt it was. Dumb shit like with the airplanes and the hospital stuff weighed down the third act, but I liked most of everything else. The final fight with Goblin and what happens after was super fucking well done. But there's nothing I like about SM3 apart from like Sandman's birth and how Franco completely cut loose.

But to each his own. I know it ain't a popular opinion around these parts.

Spiderman 3 is kinda fucking awesome. The ending sucks. But it's a great movie. It's funny, it has two dance scenes back to back, and that Sandman scene is amazing. The beginning fight scene is really brilliant. It's a very watchable and fun comic book movie.

It's not as good as 2, but an extended cut that significantly changes it would be amazing. Topher Grace is amazing. I get why people don't like it, I watched it with my then gf and all her friends, and only 1 guy liked it, I didn't have the courage to admit it.

I think it's flaws are compensated for the action and dance scenes.

But still, as good as Spiderman 2 is, its not as good as Hellboy 2, Guillermo does the comedy elements a little better, but it's in the same league. Hellboy 2 is just one of the best comic book movies.

According to the Amazon.co.jp listing it contains the 127 minute theatrical cut and the 136 minute extended cut.

As much as I dislike Spiderman 3 (this is coming from someone who has Spiderman 2 as one of his top five favourite movies of all time)...I'll be happy to admit that I actually found theforgiveness scene at the end genuinely quite moving. It's still really refreshing to see a superhero story finding its resolution...not in the superhero beating the shit out of the so called super-villain....but the hero and villain learning to push past their initial hatred for one another and ultimately end up forgiving each other for their past mistakes. Sam Raimi spoke in the past about wanting the movie to revolve thematically about Peter learning to not just look at the world purely through black and white terms, but in coming to accept the fact that there's a lot of grey when it comes to people making seemingly evil choices in an attempt to get through lives so very different to his. It's about empathy, really. For me, it was actually a really engaging and provocative theme....I just wish the film as a whole engaged with it more effectively on the whole.

The 3.1 label may not appear on the cover, but neither does the 2.1 label and yet the japanese description seems to specify that it is also included. The english description specifically references 3.1, as does this japanese listing with runtimes:

Spider-man 3.1 137 minutes. Original version is 139 minutes.

...so I'm still hoping.

So the set it said to include SM1, SM2.1 and SM3.1. That sounds pretty good. I wasn't all that interested until the runtime suggested that scenes have been both added and cut to SM3.
We'll see. Either way, the truth will be revealed soon.

As a huge fan of the Raimi trilogy, this is Best birthday present ever. Ever since I read the novel and the making off book, I wanted for Sony to release Spider-Man 3.1.

It is kinda weird that they would do this now though.

I'd rather they extended the dancing scene. To me it felt like a 4th wall breaking apology for the rest of the film.

I'm a massive Raimi fan and I only saw that movie once so I'd be curious to check-out an extended cut but Spider-Man 2.5 (or whatever it was called) was completely unnecessary so I'm not expecting much. I didn't even hate 3 all that much, the script was stupid as hell but Raimi's directing was still on point from what I remember.

What I'd love is a documentary similar to what the Alien movies got. Even though Fincher didn't participate, they didn't shy away from all the bullshit that happened behind the scenes and I've always found that stuff absolutely fascinating.

Marvel: "hey so you're all fucking useless so we're going to make your Spider-Man movies for you. also he's an Avenger now."

Sony: "ok"

...

Sony: "shit, we need to keep ruining Spider-Man somehow. hit the archives"
