Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Best selling game in UK in April

Yeah, MK8D probably hasn't reached 100K in the UK, sales in April were just bad.

I can honestly see retailers rally the switch I mean it really is one of their last hopes for relevance and decent margin's. low digital percentages, continue high software prices decent margin's on used games. They better hope the switch does well.

Eh there's plenty that's implied it's gone waaaaaay past that. There was comparisons to it not quite beating Mario Kart Wii's launch and that it itself was far above that.

Lego Worlds selling so much better than Lego City Undercover? They should've really chosen a different price for the latter.

I'm still quite surprised by this considering that I've seen zero hardware or software availability of the Nintendo switch in supermarket brick and mortar stores.

How?? It has such a small user base and came out at the end of April.

It was the biggest new release of the month. What other game came out that should of sold more? Also software sales are rather low this month. Did Mario kart even sell a 100k first week? Sure it was below that and even still it was the number one game of the month.

Considering that UK does not give a fuck about Nintendo consoles and games, being the top is quite impressive, even if it sold just 20 units.

This is a false.

The Wii/DS were massive in the UK.

The issue is that the Wii U was a bomb pretty much everywhere.

Nah I'd say it's largely true. The Wii and DS were massive everywhere they're amongst the highest selling consoles/handhelds of all time. All Nintendo consoles outside of the wii didn't sell particularly well however. Handhelds faired much better but even the 3DS did mediocrely last gen.

Didn't the N64 do rather well in the UK? Same with Super Nintendo, GB/C, and GBA?

Its worth noting that relative to population Wii was bigger in the UK than any country in the world and DS second only to Japan

If you look down a little below Mario Kart 8 on the list you can see Horizon Zero Dawn

I'm more surprised to see GTA5 at number 3 o_O I know that the game has been selling steady for a long time, but not that it would chart that high. But regardless, nice success for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe! :)

I'm not surprised by that the wii was really big here. I remember every single care home hospice etc having one the wii was absolutely massive here massive here and handhelds have always been strong until last gen. I just really see the same level of nostalgia here for Nintendo characters though. Mario is well known but he wasn't as intrinsic part of many childhoods as the nes and snes didn't penetrate as much. Pokémon did however penetrate like an atom bomb. I didn't even see or know about a Gameboy until pokemon came out and then everyone had one.

Gameboy was massive at the start, tetris and super mario land were huge (the theme tunes to both even ended up being turned into terrible hit pop singles)

There's always more parents deciding their kids are old enough for GTAV, I don't think the sales will slow down until GTAVI.

Not really that impressive, hardly anybody buys games in the U.K.

it's not really that impressive. all the mario kart fans are going to buy this game anyway so sales are probably going to die down after the first 8 million or so. also, nintendo handhelds always do well so this is not that impressive. also, lots of games are the are the best selling games in april in the uk so it shouldn't shock people when another game does that.

Thats possible. Looking forward to see the sales of GTA6.

I am just saying. I think you should relax.
And if you look even further down on the list, you see Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 and For Honor :) To be fair, i think it was a fair enough question to ask why you mentioned it.

Nope dont try to bs anyone here. You specifically mention HZD for no reason at all. Come on be honest, just tell us what you really trying to say.

What I am really trying to say is Horizon Zero Dawn is below Zelda on the list.

From the PAL charts thread :

Nintendo Switch sold about 106,166 pieces of software in April.

Cumulative software sales are about 243,351 units sold.
MK8 Deluxe must have sold around 70k in it's first week, it dropped 71% last week which would put it at 20k for that week. As I thought, MK8 Deluxe hasn't reached 100k in the UK.

The guy is just giving his observation about the state of the UK boxed market. But I guess "uhhhh le salt" is the appropriate response one should expect when it comes to Switch software talk that is not praise.
MK8 pulled off an impressive feat in the UK, but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be any concerns about the general numbers of software sales in the country.

There's a very high chance that whatever MK8D has sold, it represents an attach rate of over 50% already.
