So if I play this demo and like it, go out and buy the physical cart for this game, I can continue from where I left off in the demo?
Wasn't really interested in Disgaea before, but that video totally sold me on it. It really sounds like a game I'd want to play. Will definitely consider picking this up if I have time.

NoI am going to sink hundreds of hours into this game.
A gritter style wouldn't fit the game as it's basically a wacky cartoon. Even the way the game's systems are implemented involve a fair bit of absurdity that a more serious art style wouldn't be able to get through. This is one of those games which appeals to me a lot based on its gameplay and systems, but the whole anime vibe and artstyle throw me off instantly.
What I would give for a game like that but with a grittier, Vagrant Story-esque style... *Sigh*
According to Reddit user Kaltho NIS said the save data will transfer to the retail version.
It'd be nice if the web frontend for the eShop would let you download the demo to your Switch. Or if it does, I sure as hell can't find it.
it's in the "coming soon" section
http://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/disgaea-5-complete-switch#game-details
It's supposed to activate if you click the "demo available" button here, but maybe it's not set up yet? I clicked it on the Puyo Puyo Tetris page and it just sent the demo to my Switch.
Since you can save and the save will transfer over to the main release it makes sense.Ah interesting, the demo does make you select an account before playing. Other demos usually don't, correct?

Super into the game, but it's really making me want a FFT port and/or a new entry and/or an Advance Wars game.
Went to NA eshop and saw nothing.
The PS4 Demo most certainly allowed you to continue your save in the final game.
The demo was the almost the entire first chapter of the game.
Edit: If anyone has any questions in regards to the mechanics to the game. Don't hesitate to ask me questions.
would just like to confirm, japanese audio is available in the full game, right? i assume so since english is available in the japanese version
Any beginner tips? It'll be my first time playing the series, already downloaded the demo but haven't started it yet. Good to know that the progress will carry over to the full game.
Lame that the US version doesn't contain Japanese :/
snip.
Ugh dammit. I had told myself I probably wouldn't get this game since I've spent way too much money on the switch since it launched, but two hours into the demo and I'm hooked. Seems like a quality game, story seems cheesy but in a way that I actually enjoy it haha. Even the music with vocals I was like... Ugh... Then ten minutes in I'm humming along and loving the cheesiness of it and the bad vocals hahaha. Seems like there's way more than enough things to have to master as far as battle goes, overwhelming right now but seems like there's time to learn all the abilities and stats before shit gets serious.
Yeah I'm gonna get this. Minecraft was probably a mistake though. Oh well.

Since the demo is only chapter 1 you are extremely limited on what you can do in regards to exploiting the game's mechanics to the fullest.
A major thing you don't have access to is the Cheat Shop which isn't unlocked until Chapter 3 so a lot more grind will be involved but some of the key points that can be taken advantage of in the demo is as follows.
Experience is only earned for kills. So you can use a stronger character to soften a strong enemy and let a weaker character do the finishing blow to get the experience.
Healing spells also provide experience based on a factor that the more damaged healed the larger the experience earned.
Using items also grants experience that is 1/8th required to level up. Meaning having a character use items 8 times will always get the equivalent experience necessary to gain one level.
Stick with a small elite group of your favorite characters for the story campaign. Try not to spread your resources too thin on a larger group but rather focus your strength to at least 6 to 10 of your favorite units.
You can stack humanoid units on top of each other to form a tower. A tower can be used for mobility purposes but mainly for a very powerful attack that requires 6 or more units which is called Tower Laser. You need to repeatedly use Tower Attacks to unlock the Tower related skills, eventually Tower Laser will be learned.
Also all characters in a tower will earn experience when they participate in a tower attack.
There is a Quest NPC in the Base that has a random quests to earn some easy money and items but there are also special quests to unlock new classes in the game. If you do all of these quests you can unlock every generic humanoid class except one.
Monster units can be used as springboards to maximize movement without wasting a monsters turn. Throwing an ally unit at an ally monster unit will cause the human unit to bounce off the monster's head in the direction the monster is facing. The number of spaces moved is based on the monsters throw stat. After doing this you can then cancel the monsters movement to send them back to the base panel or have them do something else.
Monsters can also transform into a weapon doing their Magichange ability when standing next to a humanoid. Magichange lasts three turns. Each monster type has a specific weapon they can turn into. A Prinny can turn into a Sword for example.
Also each character has specialized passive abilities tied to their class type called Evilities. The Prinny for example has an effect which causes them to do 50% of their HP as damage when thrown but are KO'd.
A good method to get an early boost in the demo is using the monster merging mechanic. Two enemy units thrown into each other will cause them to combined, levels included. For example a level 6 enemy and a level 4 enemy thrown into each other will create a level 10 enemy. The predominate new enemy is based on the enemy with the higher stats, in this case the level 6 enemy has priority. You can throw all of the enemies into each other on a single map to make a super strong enemy not normally able to fight in the demo but defeating it will get you a lot of experience and level beyond what can normally done. The only exception to this is Prinnies. Throwing a Prinny will always result in it exploding be mindful of this.
Check the first two posts in the OT - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1120694 There is a comprehensive guide for the second post but there is a ton of useful information also in the OT itself.
I have a revised guide written up that I plan to post when the Switch OT goes up as well, but it contains a lot more tips that can't be taken advantage in the demo.
Beginner's tips.
.
Wow, that's a lot of information. I'll be referring to it when I play the demo and the game. Thanks.
That information really only applies to the demo.
I have a much more detailed information dump readily available when the Switch OT goes up.
I just hope some folks aren't scared off from the game with the amount of information I'm going to provide. The last thing I want is to give the impression the game is insurmountable. My Disgaea write up is meant to make the game more easy to digest for newcomers and still be relevant to even veterans of the series.
Is the demo up for the UK yet?
