Tom Hardy to star in Sony's 'Venom', Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) to direct

I don't get it, doesn't Venom kind of depend on Spiderman for a narrative? Isn't there gonna have to be another Spiderman separate from the Homecoming version present in this film?

The spider men ruined Eddie Brock's life. They're among us and they're going to pay.

Pretty sure there is no reason why Tom Holland's Spider-Man couldn't be in this or have this version of Venom be in the sequal to Homecoming.

The deal basically broke down to Marvel can have spidey in Cap 3 and Avengers movies and Sony would get no cut of the revenue but Sony still gets to make Spider-Man movies and they also don't have to pay Disney anything either. Spider-Man Homecoming is a Sony movie so I assume it's part of the "Sony Marvel Universe" while also being in the Marvel universe.

They could cast a full CGI Spider Man you know right? Totally different costume from MCU one , older etc.
They dont need to explain one bit either since it wont be spidey movie

Slay, don't make people give you a tongue LASHing.

I think it'll work, Homecoming is pretty unique I think in their deal as it's set in the MCU, however they'll probably phase that out as movies go on (as in Spidey will make guest appearances but not be an integral part). Cause RDJ is in Homecoming, I would think, as a part of the branding deal. IronMan in the movie means people will think it's in the MCU (thus driving up ticket sales for both HC and Infinity War) . This helps Sony reboot it yet again (because a stand alone universe for the 3rd time in 15 years is too much).

I believe the Spidey movies after HC (and Infinity War) will most likely be self contained (much like the Netflix series, although probably even more disconnected) which is why they're proceeding with Sinister Six and Venom. Marvel is willing to do a lot of hoops and tricks to get certain properties into their MCU but I'm sure down the road the connection between Spidey and the MCU will get blurrier and blurrier as Sony makes more movies.

But who knows, maybe we'll get a Spider-Island movie with Sony-verse and the MCU in ten years lmao.

My guess is that Carnage is going to be the villain they'll change him to be either Brock's friend who can't control the symbiote or the guy who killed Brock's family.

Well, since this is Brock, I imagine Sony is going to totally skip over Spidey's black suit phase now. At best it will touch his finger Prometheus style.

Probably going to use an earth-based origin like Ultimate, but with Peter's role in this reduced to a couple lines. Like, an experiment meant to replicate Spidey's powers creates the symbiote, or something like that which doesn't require a lot (or any) of Tom Holland.

I'll grumble up a storm if he has no spider symbol, though. At the very least, play up the jealousy angle so that Brock tries to copy Spidey's threads.

Where the fuck is my Aunt May movie.

Aunt Carnage.

So Sony really wants to go ahead and use the MCU as as stepping stone for their own movies and try to cut Disney/Marvel as much as possible? I wonder if Marvel is holding a nuclear option (i.e. cutting off merchandising/comic related products if they can).

Makes me wonder what the stipulations are for Spider-Man's participation in Infinity Wars. It'd be funny if Marvel killed off the character and gives Sony the middle finger on how they're going to write themselves out of that one if Tom Holland really is on a 3 Marvel film/3 Sony film contract.

This could be real cool.

He pulled out of Suicide Squad, though, so who knows if he stays in.

He had to leave SS because of reshoots for The Revenant.

Why are people speculating that Venom will never be in a movie with Spider-man? They've said Venom isn't a part of the MCU, not that he isn't a part of the Spider-man license which Sony owns.

I don't think they would need to do that. From reading this thread I don't think people understand Sony still has the film rights they can do whatever they want with this current version of Spider-Man in standalone films (which Homecoming is). Everytime Spidey is in a Marvel produced movie there is a deal for the character to be there.

we all rememver sony's last try at Venom

plus this means Venom wont be in the mcu
I don't know if something that old really matters anymore. Plus I don't really think Venom's that necessary to the MCU, but I can empathize if you were really looking forward to having him show up somewhere (I wouldn't though because of the Marvel track record with villains dying after their movie appearance).

As for the email leak, that was a decent amount of time ago too that I've also completely forgotten the contents of that email. What else was in that again?

Odd that Hardy is now in the Sony's weird off brand Marvel universe.., which will eventually be folded into the Tom Holland Spider-Man films.

Odd that Hardy was assumed to be part of the DCU after he was attached to play Rick Flagg in Suicide Squad..., until he pulled out when he read the final script.
Heh
.

Odd that Sony are still pushing this film for an October 2018 release.

Hmmm. Odd. Odd. Odd.

I'd love for this to be rated an 18. Not gonna happen I know, but I've always wanted to see a violent/dark interpretation of Venom on the big screen. Venom is Spider-man 3 was a huge letdown. It needs to be a 15 at the very least.

Throw in Carnage and my tent is fully pitched.

Yeah I don't know why people are saying Holland won't be in Venom where all I've seen is just speculation and couldn't find it confirmed or reported anywhere

Nobody is going to see a Venom movie without Spider-Man guys. Nobody would dare try to create a Venom movie without Spider-Man, even Sony's dumbass

The director and lead actor combination fills me with more confidence than this type of announcement would normally provide. Cautiously optimistic assuming one of the two don't drop out.

If he was going to be in it why would they have not announced it by now?
