Jim Sterling rumor: Deus Ex MD sequel in development [Up: Schreier says probably not]

I would not be surprised if S-E took a look at the sales of Prey and just threw in the towel altogether. I don't know what's changed in the years since Human Revolution and Dishonored 1, but sales in this genre have just tanked.

The way they just gave us half a story in MD was fucked. They could at least finish via DLC or something

It's made more frustrating because with the way Human Revolution finished it didn't need a sequel with Jensen in it but now because of this half baked game there's a cliffhanger to his story.

I'm gonna be pretty and say that the current market have no appreciation for games with strong level design and creative gameplay

They are only alive because a golden opportunity came knocking to SE's door. That shuffle is the only reason this team wasn't let go.

Not sure why they'd double down on this when they pulled the plug on Hitman, and that game did better

Hitman ended up being a higher rated game (when season 1 came to an end, it had a rocky start), but it almost certainly didn't sell more copies than Deus Ex.

My fucking heart. x_x

I'm on my fourth playthrough of Mankind Divided. Doing a no-firearms run where my only offensive tools are grenades, PEPS, Telsa, and Nanoblades. It's fun as hell, and better yet, I'm still discovering new locations in Prague, new side-quests (had no idea you could initiate a social battle with Otar to acquire Koller's calibrator thingy! I always just stealthed my way in), new hidden passages, and new ways to complete objectives I thought I'd mastered.

Eidos Montreal's focus on vertical level design is my favourite thing about Mankind Divided. Navigating the environment is such a thrill thanks to the trifecta of the jump aug, the new mantling system, and the Icarus Landing aug. I'm reminded of the classic Tomb Raider games where half of the fun was "reading" the environment for the right series of platforming points -- a ledge here, a balcony there -- that will take my character from ground level to a reachable location. I found myself doing this a lot in Prague, and I loved every single bit of it.

I really want to see where the team takes the lessons learned here in a new and possibly final Deus Ex game.

Is this a GAF meme or ?

I can't tell anymore 😵

Very salty Nintendo fans being petty about Jim's criticism of their favourite games developer. Also not enjoying a game as much as they do is a capital offense since the BotW 'controversy'.

Very unlikely considering that Jason Shreier said Eidos Montreal is working on a new Tomb Raider and at least 2 Marvel games.

I've always thought that his "reviews" made any claims of his towards respectability a clear farce, ever since he tanked Destructiods credibility with his own.

I think it's more to do with the fact that the game essentially came out with no really big marketing push, shared the name of an almost totally different game from 10 years earlier, had no PC demo and blamed for the cancellation of Prey 2, which more than likely wasn't even a good game. The PS4 demo had serious issues, too. The list goes on and on.

Prey had a lot working against it, and I don't know if it's fair to say that the market is the main factor in it's lack of success.

I hope so, I still haven't played Mankind Divided because my PC and laptop can't run it whatsoever. But the PS4 that I'm borrowing will apparently stay here a bit longer, so I've been looking for a cheap physical PS4 copy.

If you're not enjoying it even at the value of £6 then I don't think this is the game for you.
Does a low price suddenly increase the quality of the first mission, or?
I would say stick with it. I hated the first part. Once you get to Prague, the game opens up relatively fast.

The game is widely available in the UK for £7 at the moment. Even for this market that's a pretty much unprecedented price collapse for a game of this calibre. I can't see how a sequel would be commercially viable.

Not at all. But the fact that the poster had to mention the price suggests to me he is on a wind up. They clearly weren't taken by it hence why I said it's not for them.

I don't believe this is true, unfortunately.

Judging by this tweet from the executive art director of Mankind Divided a few months ago.

Put this in the OP.

I doubt it. I imagine it's all hands on deck where Marvel is concerned.

I love Deus Ex but at the end of the day it's all about the money in AAA and Marvel = $$$

Speaking as someone who literally just played and completed Mankind Divided two days ago, I'd really like this to be true.

Seeing the trilogy rendered forever incomplete would be a damn tragedy.

Thanks to this thread I just bought MD again for £4 (thanks to Amazon giving me a £5 voucher for my cancelled Farpoint pre-order)

I bought it at initially launch and really enjoyed it but sold it shortly after as it had very little replayability. At £4 though I couldn't really resist.

I'd really love to see a conclusion to Jensen's story arc but, given the ease (and price) at which you can grab a Day 1 Edition, sales must have tanked pretty hard. Such a shame as both this and Human Revolution are superb action/stealth RPGs.

Did you expect him to say "Yeah, we're working on the sequel, Square lets us just say that shit randomly in tweets now instead of waiting for a big announcement"?

Yeah the story/ending of MD was pretty lame but I love the world, environments and gameplay - pleaseeeeeeeee at least make number 3.

Why though? Just use that studio to reboot Legacy of Kain, Deus Ex would need an stellar, conclussive third game to grab people's attention.

After everything this past month with Hitman, I would be shocked if Square Enix had anything in the pipeline for western markets that wasn't a new Tomb Raider and a set of Marvel games. If Deus Ex still has a future, I doubt it will be in the form of an immediate MD sequel.

Not sure this is evidence of anything in either direction really. I think he's just clarifying what his tweet meant, no?

Maybe not, hard to read the tone.

EDIT: ah, jason with the dashing of the hopes.

I don't think this is true. As far as I know, Eidos Montreal is currently working on Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Guardians of the Galaxy as well as helping out with Crystal Dynamics' projects.
