I can't imagine what someone watching this fresh without seeing the 90s series would think.

Its so batshit crazy.
Think how you felt the first time you watched Eraserhead.

The real surprise would be when they watch the pilot if they decide to go back and catch up.

So here's one of the stranger theories I've seen, but I can see where they're coming from:

The faces are very similar. But not sure if that means anything.

Just noticed that Bad Arm has a gold-coated head. Gold is becoming rather relevant this season, it seems.

Rewatching Ep 1/2.

"You're going back in tomorrow. And i'll be with BOB again" - "Phillip Jeffries"

So does this allude to BOB still being in Mr C. Blooper or not?

It's the one thing that seriously points to him not being BOB. They've made sure we haven't seen him look in a mirror yet either.

My guess is that BOB is now possessing either the character that we are yet to meet that Mr Todd speaks of, or Hastings (Matthew Lillard). Remember Mr Todd (Patrick Fischler) is the same actor who gets (Mulholland Drive spoiler)
a heart attack from a similar being to BOB in Mulholland Drive.
. In episode 4,
the evidence that Albert/Cole are shown includes a dogs leg. This is probably the same dog as the flesh found in the principals car. Where that leads no-one knows yet. I'm guessing Mr.C is now incarcerated in the same jail as Rick, so maybe he planned to get arrested anyways.
Then you also have that oiled up woodsman spirit in the cell next to Hastings which looked like something straight from the convenience store in FWWM.

BOB seemingly has control over when he can enter/exit the lodge. After all, he possessed Leland for over 40 years. That doesn't sound like someone who's trapped there now does it? Neither does he seem trapped/bound to the lodge in series 1, 2 and FWWM. No one is mentioning
the owl outside Dougie's house in episode 4 (a well known vehicle for BOB)
. Kinda seemed like
BOB was spying on Cooper.

Question about episode 3:
Do you guys think the sniper waiting for Dougie to come out was related to his supposed debts, or was Bad Cooper somehow aware that the real Cooper would come out of there and wanted to get rid of him immediately?

I'll go one better - I think
the person on the phone to Mr.C (posing as Phillip Jeffries) actually tried to kill Dougie so that Mr.C definitely gets sent back to the lodge.

Are we supposed to know yet exactly what the skeletal tree creature is supposed to be?

Also what exactly are we supposed to put under spoiler tags?
This presumably is a spoiler thread isn't it?

Some interesting stuff, but on your last point...

Why would that person who presumably was also the person who wanted Ray and Darya to kill Mr C, have them all wait (including the hitmen seemingly). The hitmen watched Dougie arrive, but were prepared to risk shooting at Dougie in the passenger seat as he left with Jade. So why wouldn't they just kill him earlier when they watched him arrive if they don't seem concerned about witnesses or collateral damage?

Running with this idea though, perhaps Ray and Darya were a contingency plan only if that other plan failed. Sort of explaining the "Wait and see what happens tomorrow" line.

Spoiler tags for episodes 3 & 4, because it hasn't aired on tv yet. Only available on demand at the moment. Episodes 1 & 2 are good to talk about with tags though.

By the same token
why would they put the explosive on Dougie's car if they know Dougie is now Cooper? They want to kill Dougie.

When (presumably fake) agent Jeffries talks to Mr.C on the phone, he's already spoken with Ray and probably assumes the worst for Daria anyways.

Well if they're working for Mr C, and were told to wait to kill Dougie until after 253 it makes sense, because then they're actually killing Coop. 'Only one can survive'. Mr C presumably wouldn't go into the specifics of the guy they're following being swapped with someone who looks almost identical.

Once Dougie is swapped with Coop, killing Coop only benefits Mr C. Presuming whoever put out the hit knew the switch would happen.

Ep. 3/4 question re: doppelganger

After the lodge curtains close and he begins vomiting, that's all his garmonbozia, right?

Are we supposed to know yet exactly what the skeletal tree creature is supposed to be?

The brain tree in the lodge is the "evolved" form of the Man from Another Place (aka The Arm).

The hitmen had to wait until after 2:53, so that they would be killing Cooper and not Dougie. We know Bob Cooper knew what day the lodge would try to pull him back in, so it makes sense for him to hire the hitmen to kill Cooper since he knows he is coming.

Plus, like I mentioned above, I think it fits with Jefferies wanting Ray and Darya to kill Bob Cooper, but only after Agent Cooper has returned. I think it has something to do with the way both of them now seem mentally impaired. Like they are splitting their intelligence, or people arent meant to exist alongside their dopplegangers outside the lodge.

Jefferies is going to turn out to be scheming against the evil coop. Remember, in Fire Walk With Me he says "You think you know who this is here?" or similar, referring to Dale Cooper. The timeline is off but this is Lynch we are talking about :)

Both of our ideas have merit but there's just as much chance
other people want Dougie dead too. He seemingly owes a lot of money to the wrong kind of people. So there's potentially three different groups of people that want him dead lol.

The thing that makes me think they want
Dougie and not Cooper is purely down to the car bomb and nothing else. Surely you check the house if you're there to kill Cooper, but you don't need to check the house for Dougie because his car is still there (hitman even says "HIS car is still here" which has his name as the license plate). What guarantee is there that Cooper is going to leave in that car?
Also at no point do
the hitmen mention anything about time, so just because it's past 2.53 doesn't really prove they want Cooper and not Dougie.

Yeah it is. Dougie was throwing it up too, but his was way less than Evil Cooper of course.

Dougie's looked different enough that it didn't seem like the regular creamed corn variety of pain and sorrow... I also didn't peg Dougie as a rapist/murderer, but maybe he's been killing those hookers on the side. Or maybe infidelity counts as its own form of milder garmonbozia.

Yeah I mean I assume it could be from any suffering he's had, but also since he's manufactured maybe it's left over from Evil Cooper somehow?

This new season is amazing. It is incredible to not be disappointed after waiting so long. It is different than the original, yet as good. Having each episode directed by lynch is so great.
The scene and dialogues with the "missing bunny" were so funny.

Just saw ep 4, Wally (Brando) had me crying from laughing. I just can't believe how good this season is so far!

yeah it's bugging the crap out of me. 4 eps have been out for days. We shouldn't have to spoiler stuff. If you don't want spoilers, go watch the eps.

I think mostly everyone in this thread agreed before the episodes dropped that this was the best method of spoiler tagging them. 3 & 4 haven't aired on tv yet, and not everyone has access to the app for on demand. Besides, after this week it's one episode per week for months until the two part finale and we won't need to do spoiler tags. I don't see any problem with enduring spoiler tags for a couple more days.

Yeah, it's unclear if their instructions were
simply to "kill Dougie" or specifically to "kill Dougie after 2:53". The latter would mean that their employer knew that Cooper would be emerging, but either way I think the hitmen themselves were clueless about any Lodge business.

Anytime I see someone say Mr. C, I read it in the same way Harley Quinn says Mr. J and it's annoying me lol. I'm sticking with BOB Cooper

To kinda back this up (even though I personally think this thing is the "mother"), here's an image of the spirit holding something yellow (like the doppletree's head) a few frames earlier.

Huh, that's interesting and something I hadn't noticed myself.

To be honest, when I first watched the episode when it was more blurred out and at this angle, I for some reason for a bit thought it might be the Lady in the Radiator from Eraserhead.

Episode 4:
When Bobby cried staring at Laura's picture
I got choked up.

I feel so bad for Laura Palmer. Especially after you see her life in Fire Walk With Me. Lynch's most underrated movie.
Seriously just watched Fire Walk With Me yesterday and just now finished part 4 of this season. She got screwed so badly :(.
