Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

Right fuck it, i'm buying a TV.

Sony X800D or the KS8000?

Which is the ULTIMATE for overall picture quality, HDR and lag input for PS4 Pro use? I need the best for this money.

Tried searching this thread but it isn't working on mobile.

The Samsung KU6270? I assume it isn't true 10-but HDR, by there's a heck of a good deal on TVs at Target this week, and I can't really afford to go up the KS8000 for $500 more.

Just help me decide if I should jump on this GAF!

I just got the KU6290 (slightly bigger)for 550 last week. Super pleased with it. Playing Deus Ex in 4k HDR is amazing.

I'm so confused as to what the KS8000 has that this one doesn't.

I'm on a strict budget and it would take another year of planning to afford a $1000 Tv.

Take a look at the rtings.com reviews. The KU is the entry point and got some major weaknesses compared to the KS. You should consider the xd8005 or x805d (different name in different regions). Good entry point for a smaller budget while delivering a lot of good features.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a tv (4K HDR) of around 40 inches? I don't really need anything bigger than that due to the room it will be in. Thanks!

Looking for a good TV for gaming in the $250 dollar range. I'm ok with 32 to 40in. Not really looking for 4K (of course, not that in price range.)

Suggestions?

Looking to buy a 40 inch 4k HDR TV with 8bit frc or 10 bit panel to replace my JU6740 which is faulty and producing colour banding (Samsung wont do anything, out of warranty).

Looking at RTINGS it recommends a Samsung KU6000 for having higher peak brightness than Samsung KU6400, however the KU6400 has a wider color gamut.

They also state that both panels are 10 bit but i cannot find any information on it.

Any help making a decision would be appreciated.

KU6000 = US KU6300
KU6400 = US KU7000

Thanks

Going in on a Vizio P55-C1
Should get it Monday.
I think it's the only IPS panel in the P-series, but I'm okay with that. Better viewing angle and color reproduction.

Im almost certain neither of them have 10bit panels or true hdr support. I almost bought a curved 6300 before someone informed me of that.
this is from rtings 6300 rev iew
"Supports HDR10 but can't really benefit from it due to lack of local dimming and no support for wide color gamut. Input lag is low even in HDR mode. Motion blur is good."
"Although the KU6300 support HDR10 input, it does not really benefit from it, since it does not support a wide color gamut and it cannot really get highlight very bright."
the 7000 does support wcg /

the ks8000 is the entry point in samsung to proper hdr.
If you cant get the 8000 get sony's x800d, it has a 43" model and is the next best thing in terms of value for money. Its weak on the peak brightness front but it averages out so well that its avg brightness and peak brightness are hardly ever different.
It has a better wcg than the 7000 and has an actual 10 bit panel.

I'm thinking about getting a new TV (coming from a Samsung 2009's model with 40 inch, FullHD and 50Hz). It should offer 4k and HDR; panel size of 50 to 55 inches.

I have read through the last couple of pages and it seems that lots of people are like 'true HDR10 or gtfo'. I found a post in a German forum in which the guy argues that you cannot simply generalize it and 8 bit panels can also do a great job. It looks like he's tech savvy, but maybe someone knows better or can confirm? Due to it's lenght I just copied it to google translator, so please bear with me for the translation: http://pastebin.com/4hdtwQbv

Excerpt:
[...]What if the TV really only has an 8-bit panel?

This does not have to mean anything at all, because just as a FRC panel can do this fast switching back and forth internally, of course, the picture processor of the TV doing this switching back and forth can already pre-calculate these values, then fixes and ready the 8- Bit panel. If, as in the example, the 10-bit value 55 is to be displayed, the TV can send the value 13 to every fourth frame and the value 14 to the panel. And he also reached an average value of 13.75. Again, the higher the panel frequency, the finer the FRC will be.

Therefore, at least in theory * no * significant difference in the visible result is to be expected, whether panel with 8 or 10 bits is relatively no matter, as long as it is cleanly solved and with the 8-bit panel is really indicated by FRC.[...]

Everything's confusing since every manufactor uses his own 'brand' or terminology (HDR Pro, simply 'HDR', HDR10) and then I read something about 'wide color gamut' and stuff like that. It seems it won't get any easier the more I read.

What I 'simply' want is to buy a TV with the size of 50 or 55 inch, with 4k and HDR support to play mainly on console (PS4) and maybe hooking up my PC. I've seen Sony's KD55 XD8577 in action and the HDR was pretty cool (Horizon: Zero Dawn), but it cost roughly 1.400 EUR which is WAY too much. I'm looking for something around 700 EUR. Any recommendations? Main purpose would be gaming on my PS4.

Really tempted to get a Samsung UE55KU6000 for £650. Its 55 inch and 4K and would be a huge upgrade from my 32inch HD one but don't know how good the quality is, or if I could get a better 4K to here in the U.K.

Is this a decent price for a TV? Been about 6 years since my last one

Groupon has the 55" KS800 refurbished for $780. I've never bought anything refurbished. What should I be worried about?

Light bleed and back panel separation.

I purchased 4 x ks8000s. First 3 had light bleed and the 4th which didn't had terrible upscaling and judder.

In Canada, prices for TVs are pretty crazy here, don't feel like paying $3000 for the OLED B6 (but man would I love to have it), so trying to find a decent option that won't break the bank.

Was looking at this:

https://www.costco.ca/Vizio-M55-D0-...D-Home-Theater-Display.product.100301080.html

Does that meet all the bells and whistles I would need for 4k and HDR output?

And does anyone know if there are any benefits to looking at the P-series which is about 400 more.

Or any other suggestions to look at in general

Thanks!

LG OLED B6/C6/E6 >>> KS8000 > X800D >>>>> typical cheapo 4K faux HDR set (ie Samsung 6300)

50-55" low latency for gaming. Under $1000. HDR would be nice. Lots of retro gaming and movie watching. PS4/Xbox not a primary concern.

Whatcha got for me? Should i be looking for something that does the backlight strobing?

I bought the Vizio M and returned it for the KS8000 even though I had to pay a few hundred more for it. It was great but if you aren't sitting dead center the picture gets very washed out. It really bugged me.

I just noticed that the new Sony Bravia XE80 is available for a really great price: 800€ shipping included. Except I can't find any review of it anywhere....Maybe because it just came out?

Snagged a Sony XBR-65X900e yesterday and a Ps4 Pro to go with it. I know most of the talk in this thread is on the lower end of the spectrum, but holy shit this TV is a beast.

I picked up this Philips
http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product...-only-at-best-buy-55pfl6921-f7/10417974.aspx?

The 4K image is good.

I picked it up for $800 Can on sale

It prob is 8 bit with FRC, but have been unable to confim it. I downloaded a 10 bit test pattern mp4 from avforum and it had no banding (but maybe it was good dithering)

Hey folks,

Can I get an opinion on the LG 55UH750V? It's like €899 in a local store and that's relatively cheap for Ireland. The 770V model is available, too, but for €50 more, though I've read middling reviews on that model.

(Will be using for PS4 Pro). Appreciate any responses!

So I am starting to look into getting a new tv, and I haven't been keeping up, so I was hoping I could get some help here from GAF. I am currently looking at the following three tvs:

  • sony bravia 55xd8505
  • samsung 55ks8005 (KS9000 in the US)

For roughly the same price, and lastly the below for 50% more:

  • lg oled55b6v

Is the last one worth the extra money?

And how does the first two compare (sony vs samsung)?

Looking at youtube clips with KS8005 and OLED55B6V next to each other, I don't know why but the colours look better on the samsung. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

I'm looking at the same 3 TVs, so would welcome an answer to this as well.

I went into Best Buy yesterday and I agree. Overall I came away more impressed by the Samsung even when going in I expected OLED to blow me away considering how much more expensive they are.

The B6.

OLED blows those other sets out of the water.

That's what I was thinking but the light scenes seem to look better on the Samsung from the little I've seen while the B6 seems better on the very dark scenes (HDR on both). Am I just being deceived by some strange TV settings?

So I have a Panasonic 4K HDR TV on the way and I have a quick question. Do i have to turn the HDR setting off in the TV settings every time I'm not viewing HDR content? I noticed on my Dads Samsung KS8000 that all the settings get jacked up with UHD colour on regardless of what content you are watching.

After doing some research, I think this is the one for me. On amazon for $620. The other models people are talking about seem good but I need something more medium sized. 43" is perfect.

I've never heard of anything more insane than comparing Youtube clips of TV image quality. Sure, you may be able to do this with things like test patterns but there is no way you can adequately judge color in this way.

Side by side comparisons are flawed too because the sets will bias your perception and you can't evaluate.

Think about the Youtube thing. You have the cameras trying to capture the images, compression, and your own monitor and its settings altering the original image.

I'm looking at the same 3 TVs, so would welcome an answer to this as well.

Unfortunately comparing in store isn't much better. It always simply gives preference to the brightest display, which is a good part of the reason that plasma went away.

Checked best buy and theyve reduced prices on the B6 by another $500.

Can now get a 65" for $2400 if I go open box.

Very, very tempting.

I'm someone who always goes for "the best", often to my own detriment. I'm not a videophile, and I'm worried I'm going to spend about a grand more than I have to to go OLED instead of just a 4k LED and I'll barely be able to tell the difference. Especially since the amount of content at this point is just not there.

Any regular joe OLED buyers that can offer their impressions? Any buyers remorse??

I'm a regular joe B6 buyer who was convinced to buy a KS8000 until I saw them in person. OLED blew me away.

Every time I turn on my TV I say "wow", if not out loud, at least in my head.

I swear I wish there was an easy way to sell a TV I just viewed the LG OLED and while I love the KS8000, I dislike it's issue when white text or anything small on a black screen comes up it creates this light bloom from it. Ugh...

I decided to upgrade to 4K recently so bought a Samsung 65KS9000 for TV/couch gaming and a Hisense H49M3000 for the racing rig. Really, really pleased with both.

It's crazy that I could have bought SIX of the Hisense sets for the price of the Samsung.

Hi guys, I was going to get the LG OLED55B6V but I went into a store here and saw the 55 inch Samsung Q7F and was blown the fuck away. I know people usually just go with OLED being better and I'm tempted to as well but is this specific OLED actually better than the new Samsung flagship? Because I've been impressed by the £5,000 OLEDs but the Q7F was amazing for only around £2,000.

This LG seems like a budget OLED so I'm just looking for some direction, really.

-edit-
Oh and its like £700 cheaper for the OLED.

-edit2-
Also, should I be concerned with Dolby Vision's PS4Pro/Xbox One support?

Is the KS8000 still the best 4K set out there? Looking to buy a TV next month and checking the options.

No, it never was to begin with. It's a good TV in that price range but it was never the best.

Sad to say but store conditions are never a good place to judge. You don't know what settings are used and it's unlikely calibrated. Often stores turn on torch mode to have unrealistic vibrancy and to counter the bright store lighting which is nothing like your home conditions nor what the settings should be set to.

Lots of people online saying the B6 is still superior and for £700 less than the Q7 its sort of a no-brainer.

Should I be concerned about the B6 flagging 'Dolby Vision' when the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S use HDR10? I know Vision is better but are the various companies dicks about supporting each other?
