Well, RE is a tainted movie brand and they are/were making that CG movie weren't they?
They've made a few but all of the movies are secondary to the games. They never really made any attempt to tie the games to the movies.

I have no way to prove this of course, but I would bet any amount of money that if there were a multiplatform Switch/PS4 Monster Hunter, the Switch version would sell the most in the West by far.

Thanks, checked through them they all mainly only state about the Capcom Nintendo partnership with MH but none talk about the Sony stuff or the P3rd rumour you mentioned and also if it's verified or not

Ray Barnholt, ex-1up writer and now a developer, pretty much said the rumor is true on Twitter.
Monster Hunter G came out on PS2 and had a demo for 3, but that ended up on Wii... So, yeah, he is basically saying Switch is not getting 5.

He references MH G Wii which had the MH Tri demo and was very clearly priming the pump for Tri.
I'm not understanding
I think it would all depend on Nintendo by that point. I don't think they'd be stupid enough to give up $$$ support for core MH in the west because they were "betrayed" (as this rumor suggests) in Japan with the franchise, but if NoJ legitimately feels the way the OP outlines, I could see it souring that financial relationship if they decide to intercede.I don't think capcom would ever take things that far. At worst it'd be "I skip PS4 MHs and only play the Nintendo ones". They'd both come to the west if this were to happen.
Nintendo seems pleased enough with MH, even if capcom wants more.
Also MHG on Wii didn't pump anything. Nobody cared about an old PS2 game.
It literally came with a demo for Tri. What other purpose for the re-release was there?

This is all assuming any of this rumor is actually true though.

I'm just not sure why Sony would pay big bucks for an exclusive MH5?
Making sure they get a version and offer a marketing deal, sure.
This is another huge mystery. Especially since the script is the same between both versions of the game, if you pay for one script, you're basically paying for both.Unrelated, but this one of the main issues I see coming up with DQXI. Nintendo pays for localization and marketing of main DQ games on their supports, while S-E does that themselves for spinoffs on PS support. Would they be ready to do the localization of a mainline game without anything in return again?
The rumor claims that they didn't even pay for exclusivity, just to keep it off Switch, so... yeah.
Again, nobody cared about MHG on Wii so you tell me. It was a weird release whatever their intentions were. Maybe to charge $$ for a demo? I don't even know.
But...why just Switch? I just can't see Sony doing that for such a petty reason. The rumor claims that they didn't even pay for exclusivity, just to keep it off Switch, so... yeah.
The only thing I really see people from that camp wanting is better graphics. I don't know if they want the gameplay to go away just to have better fidelity.Yeah, I don't really see who this rumor harms even if it does sound like Sony and Capcom being stupid.
People who want a "console" MH tailored to modern "console" sensibilities would get just that.
People who want the franchise as is would also get just that.
Don't see the issue for consumers.

Didn't it still sell like 250k? It was easy money and got at least some of the audience on to the Wii.

Perhaps. I thought it was also common to complain about the systems, controls, etc. But those could be different people, yeah.
But...why just Switch? I just can't see Sony doing that for such a petty reason.
Oops sorry for bumping the wrong thread lol

The rumour is bad in certain ways.
Like for one, Sony doesn't look at just one region when they make any deal. PS4's strengths are in its potential to sell software globally, including emerging markets that previously weren't accessible or as big as they are now and that's a big reason why you see some decent PS4 support from Japan.
Every time I browse the Media Crate, which is about once or twice a week, I just read about how Sony is getting a thrashing by the 3DS. I'm sure they new they would lose Japan already. If Switch gets it then Nintendo probably wins Japan.
Simplified, Western-friendly combat sounds like Itsuno and crew to people?

They get thrashed by 3DS because it's got, among other things, Monster Hunter. Pokemon/MonHun/Mario is basically the trifecta. The only big Japanese game 3DS didn't have was Dark Souls. If Switch gets that along with the trifecta, it's gg in Japan.
