Why was this thread made like 8 hours (at least) before real reviews came out?

I thought the magic and the visuals of Doctor Strange were cool. Just wish those visuals came with a story I gave a damn about.

Exactly. I don't hate it or even think it's bad, I just enjoy all the other MCU films more.

Besides Hulk, cause that doesn't count. Cause fuck that movie it sucked.

To reveal there's a Joe Johnston defense force, for some reason.

The Rocketeer, though. Guy peaked early. James Horner's amazing score. Timothy Dalton camping it up as not-Errol Flynn. Jennifer Connelly.

I'm not sure what mythological music sounds like but if this isn't epic than I don't know what is: https://youtu.be/chC-nTLh6aA

Sounds fucking great to me. Is this Rupert Gregson-Williams' first score? His father's work with Zimmer on The Rock is still my favorite action movie score of all-time.

It sounds epic sure, but it just doesn't seem to fit the character for the character. I want something inspiring sounding that reminds me of ancient Greece or some shit like that, not a "electric cool theme". Fun sure, but I've never thought that theme fit the character.

Also Rupert is Harry's brother, not son, just correcting you there, and he's been working in the business for years. He used to be Sandler go to composer for a lot of his films, so much of his work is with comedies. He also did Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge last year, which had some decent music in parts.

Eh

Agree to disagree.

Fine!

October Sky is very good, and personally I like the first Cap film, and Jumanji.

Meet me outside

I'll be out there too as Dr. Strange was the epitome of assembly line Marvel movies for me. Did absolutely nothing for me.

Dr. Strange and Scott Atkinson ghost-fighting made me just wish I was watching The Frighteners.

All the city-bending stuff just made me wish I was watching Inception.

The beginning with Strange doing his training made me just wanna watch Batman Begins...are we starting to see a pattern here?

Hulk is not a MCU movie

It is. The Edward Norton one I mean.

The actor playing Hulk may have changed but the events of the movie have been references elsewhere, the same Ross showed up in Civil War, and it's included in all the MCU promotional material and dvd/bluray boxsets.

Also, looking at the wiki, it seems that the upcoming Thor 3 prequel comics will include an adaption of it alongside a Thor 2 one to set the movie up.

I agree that it's not great though.

I think he's a capable director. I'm just surprised to see folks go to bat for him. Like if someone said there's a new Joe Johnston movie coming out, is that getting anybody interested in it?

is this an episode of The Office

It's from Doctor Strange, Who Lives at Home

(that joke doesn't make sense to like 99.99% of people)

I don't think anything riles up OT like comic book movies and review threads for said movies

Maybe trump. MAYBE

Review threads for DC movies maybe.

I'm still not wholly convinced this will be great, but I think the fanbase should content themselves with decent.

Movie made me be in state of awe from the very start till the end. I haven't read the Wonder Woman comics and thus I had no clue that a certain mythology was tied to it. Just go watch the movie GAF, it has the right amount of drama action humor and emotion!!

Had a friend tell me recently that rewatching Iron Man 2 in 2017 actually helps that movie out, as a lot of the weird digressions and storytelling dead-ends now seem to make way more sense and feel a little more natural considering how filled out the rest of the universe has gotten sense.

Basically, the burden of all that set-up is finally lessened a little.

...I'm not inclined to see if he's right, myself, but that's what I've heard.

it's still a movie where the bad guy calls the good guy on the phone at the end of the movie to tell him to come to the action climax, out of nowhere, because the movie is too sloppy to tie the various plot threads together at all

and tony stark's problem is solved by him inventing a new element which his father already invented and which doesn't even get a name as far as I can remember

like nothing in the movie has a decent payoff, other than MAYBE the "will Rhodey and Tony still be friends" stuff which was never really in doubt

oh and also the drone fight was fuckin sick

I was told that The Wolverine had a bad third act but what they forgot to tell me is that it also has a bad first and second act.
