Gotta love it, the liberals who value truth and science over all are totally unwilling to accept the truthful and scientific explanations for why Hillary lost because it doesn't fit their political narrative (Bernie got screeeeewed). I hope Hillary continues needling those people going forward, she's done more to advance their agenda than any living politician and doesn't owe them a goddamn thing.

It doesn't make sense because that analogy is nonsense.

I'm not saying Trump was destined to win, I said any Republican was going to have a built-in advantage that any Democratic nominee wouldn't have. There is a not-insignificant bloc of voters out there who feel that the White House should change parties every eight years that makes the possibility of holding onto the presidency for three consecutive terms very difficult for any party. That's why it rarely happens!

Also, as Bad Nate repeatedly pointed out over the course of the campaign, those same polls also yielded an unusually high number of undecided voters, so I wouldn't say that party control factor was already baked in at all.
If that's not what you meant, OK, it's just that "As much as many of us -- including myself -- tried to fool ourselves into thinking a majority of the country wouldn't elect Donald Trump as president" sounds like you were saying reality was pointing to Donald winning and those of us who didn't think he would were grasping to find any evidence he wouldn't, when it's closer to the other way around. I think I get it, though, you were talking about the left hoping people were considering Donald a total nonstarter.

Undecided voters could be undecided for any number of reasons. I don't know why party control of the White House has to be the reason undecideds swing. If it's just people wanting new leadership, I don't think people suddenly start feeling that way a week or two before the election, unless there was some big failure of the Obama administration just before the election. Seems like the news of a candidate being back under FBI investigation would be a much bigger factor. I don't know if there were any polls conducted actually asking undecideds what exactly changed their mind, though.

All of us were so sure of his defeat we had people come up with 350+ EV totals in our EC game. Granted I think of most of us figured Hillary would never win with +10 but a modest +5-7 was what I was expecting.

I mean, I was pretty sure of his defeat before the Comey letter. At times she had 9+ percentage points over him in the average national polls, didn't she? After the letter I saw the polls narrowing and was a lot more nervous.

Please tell me what is so crazy about saying she could have done more instead of dodging all accountability.

It would be nice for her to at least acknowledge that Obama and Bill were correct that she also didn't campaign enough and relied way too much on demographic data carrying her, while dining with lobbyists in LA instead of camping out in rural areas of the Midwest like Obama did.

If she can throw Obama under the bus for letting the dnc rot then she should be able to say not setting a damn foot in Wisconsin was a mistake.

She set foot in PA, FL & NC like it was her second home and still lost them. What is with this continued WI and MI obsession? Giver her those and she still loses without PA.

Gold standard Marquette gave her +6 in WI so it was assured safe unless we now want to throw out all polling data and trust none of it.

I want to raise a point I made in OT and maybe play a little game. Ignore if you think it's stupid.

We know several cabinet members, specifically Sessions and Tillerson, have connections to Russia, and several stories appear to have implicated the DeVos family. And who knows what else will come in the next few weeks!

My question: who's the first rat to abandon ship if it reaches that point?

From the administration? Nobody. They're all deluded. I wouldn't be surprised if they cling to the "we didn't do anything wrong" all the way through a conviction and the rest of their lives.

Fair point, I guess. I shouldn't have phrased my question with an assumption of standard morality and capacity for shame.

Yeah they are better off going down with the ship. Just play stupid the whole time which they are seem to be doing anyway.

Funny though if Trump never hired Mike Flynn this would have been a whole different situation.

I've been saying this for months.

Love Obama. He's my president. But he really failed the Democratic party.

He really did. Emptied the cupboards after his election to staff up OFA; put DWS in charge and neglected it.

Hillary winning might've kicked the can down the road on those issues and led to a really bad 2018 & 2020.

Hmmmm I feel like tillerson is way less ideologically invested in things.sessions and devos will cling to their power to push their fucked up goals as much as possible

She was at that table with Flynn and Putin so very possible.

The Steele dossier, which I reread last night, also mentions Russia's plans to fund and enable dissident movements and political divisions in the US. Jill Stein's actions, combined with the aforementioned picture, should arouse suspicion at the very least.

And how many organic kale farms did she start with that recount money?

Exactly. Russia put their feelers out on both sides. I have no doubt that Jill Stein was compromised, because she was also strangely defensive of Russia much of last year.

It's just that...well, she's Jill Stein. Nobody cared.

I personally think on some level people will look out for themselves when a crisis directly effects them. A few of the people in the administration don't have that much ties to Trump and they have a lot to lose financially and politically. Trump is a fool and doesn't look at the consequences of his actions or cares to understand them plus I don't know how much political connections he actually had before he became president, but it didn't seem like a whole lot. I think that in a sense helped him survive the election. The vast majority involved in politics don't have that luxury and that same goes the people in his administration.

If it looks like that they might go to prison and lose their assets, and possessions some of them will turn.

Right now, the scandals is effecting them, but only in terms on how they can move forward with their work, however, their is a cloud over their heads. Still nothing is really happening though. If people start to get arrested, some go to prison, they get heavy scrutinized, and it looks like there is no protection. I think they will turn on Trump even they believe they did nothing wrong.

You really think we'll have a bad 2018 and 2020? :(

yeah. Same midterm dynamic that hurt Obama and his predecessors would have certainly hit Hillary. The Romney Senate 5 would have certainly been defeated and the Swing State 5 in jeopardy too.

Who knows when the House would have ever been in play again.

I guess that's at least a target to go after that could possibly talk about Russia that Republicans aren't really planning on defending.

That image makes me so fucking angry and upset. We fucking had this. She had flaws and Mook wasn't that great but we had this. God dammit. I still hate Comey.
To be fair, he wasn't the one who let the press know the investigation was reopened. (Leaks only matter when they hurt Republicans).

Yea, Clinton needs to go away. She isn't helping.

Who IS helping???

Ain't nobody doing shit right now but twiddling their thumbs and sitting on their ass.

Bernie's still trashing Democrats.

Tom Perez is going on pointless "Come Together" tours.

Democratic Senators can't be bothered to do more than go on the fucking liberal podcast circuit.

Nobody has stepped forward to lead the party. The party is still, for the most part, directionless.

Let her speak. Jesus.

You just lost the presidential election because Clinton failed to win over the critical demographic that you will need again in the next presidential election. Why on earth would she be a good spokesperson for the party? I mean, this is some serious echo chamber going on right here.

She's not a spokesperson for the party, isn't acting as one, but the issue is that the people who fucking hate her will hate-watch any thing she says because they'd rather hate Clinton than actually do anything proactive.

She made a comment about the DNC being worthless (that has been echoed by virtually everyone outside of Obama's orbit after the election) that got blown up because they don't have anything better to do.

There's a difference between spokesperson and person who is still an active participant.

I value her take on policy a lot. She's uncharismatic and should not run, but it doesn't mean she doesn't have things to say and contribute.

Dead on. Also, she keeps hitting this Russia stole the election / Comey point, which isn't helpful to winning people over who think that the Dems have lost their way.

Biden at 78 years old running seems a pipe dream, IMO and I say that as someone that loves Joe Biden and wishes he would have run in 2016.

Who said anything about Clinton being the spokesperson? She's doing an interview.

And strangely this argument of yours is absent whenever Bernie Sanders, bitter boots loser of the primaries and constant backer of other losers, opens his mouth.

Did this thread discuss when the mayor of New Orleans spoke out recently against the Confederacy? I've heard some people think he's a dark horse candidate for 2020 (similar to that Indiana mayor who was in the running for DNC char). White guy with a lot of appeal to Black people might nbot be terrible if we are playing the demographics game.

Just curious, what do you think party members should be doing? Going on highly pubic speaking tours advocating for particular policies? What are they not doing that Republican party members did back in 2009? (To be clear I'm genuinely curious what you want them to do, I'm not trying to be snarky).

would just like to say I appreciate the readings you periodically share

No problem and I'm glad to help/educate in any little way I can :)

Counterpoint - Bernie is still an elected official, its kind of his job. Also his favorability can't be compared with Hillary's.

And Hillary isn't a spokesperson for the Dems - but lets not kid ourselves. She launched a new PAC, shes publicly proclaimed herself to be part of the "Resistance" (forever ugh). So its not like she isn't out in the press.

She can do whatever she wants, its definitely her prerogative. I just don't think she helps.

Please no. Raise money? Sure. Talk about important stuff and be out in public in general? Great. But please don't actually run. "Diamond Joe" is anything but flawless and has already completely flubbed it twice. He's his own worst enemy and there's no reason other than fucking stupid Onion memes to think the next time would be any different. And if that's a person's metric...
