What are you expecting from this Direct?

Stars is going to be a Sun/Moon port, no redone assets - simply rendered in HD. It will probably have new content ala Pokemon Crystal/Emerald/Platinum.

Simultaneous hype and disappointment from fans who are thinking full ground-up HD Pokemon for no reason.
Why do you think you have reason to believe it's a simple upres?

From Pokemon's site, they're calling it "Big News", and added to visit Pokemon.com for coverage on said news after the direct. My bets are going to Stars for Switch!

That's a good catch, now I'm believing Stars for real and not just dream excitement!

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
I mean I was kind of let down by Sun and Moon but the pre-release period was still HYPE, so I'm excited for this.

Did you see the Pokemon 3DS games running on the Citra Emulator?

These game would look good in 1080p even if they touch jack shit. :lol

Is anyone actually expecting a full ground-up HD Switch game? I'm pretty sure most people are expecting an uprezzed Sun&Moon port/third version, maybe with some improved environmental textures.

There are people in this thread who believe Nintendo is going to advertise a mobile game they didn't develop in a Nintendo Direct.

I'm sure someones gonna whelp about this being a 3DS port.

I know it's sarcasm, but the concept was definitely cool back in the day and drew people in, and when it was all we had, it was great.

Now it's been far and away outdone, even by it's sequel, and is shown how many gaping flaws it has.

I think some of the more modern gens have pretty good designs, but I agree that the best designs are Gen 1 and 2, but I don't think the other gens should be counted out.

That doesn't make them bad games. Simpler maybe, but bad? Definitely not. I'd say they're still more than playable, especially compared to other games that were released around that time. Just look at how many people went nuts and bought and played the virtual console releases when they came out on 3DS.

Glad we agree on the designs. I'm not counting them out, but while Gens 1 and 2 just had a couple designs each that made me go "uhh okay" - the new ones tend to make me have that reaction for like 2/3 of every new set of Pokemon. A lot of them look like Digimon or designs that just should've been left on the cutting room floor.

Feel like it won't be massive like a Switch port. Still, would like to be pleasantly surprised.

Yup, sounds good to me. I'm in if that happens.

As for my prediction -

Pokemon Stars
- 3DS and Switch title.
- Kanto sequel, set 20 years after the events of Red and Blue
- Lillie has a prominent role again, be it rival or champion
- Hau's dad is revealed, possibly a gym leader of Elite 4 member
- Daisy Oak is now the Pokemon professor
- Alola post game, possibly with gyms filling those empty construction sites
- Kantonian forms of Kalos pokemon, possibly offered a Kantonian Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie, ala the Kanto starters in X and Y
- Mega Blastoise X/Y and Mega Venusaur X/Y
- Zygarde and Necrozma play a major role
- Switch version has the added feature of Pokemon following you

If any 2 of these things come true then I'll be surprised, we all have our expectations set sky high.

We haven't even had a new Pokemon game with one screen support in years. They're going to have to drastically redesign the UI for Switch - which is probably what interests me most.

Lmao, I totally lost all hope of that happening. That's stupidly close to the E3 though, I wonder why they waited so long.

Pokemon Direct seems like a pretty rubbish name for a game, but at least its coming out soon.

In-game image was posted yesterday and the concept art was posted today. Some details

i'm a translator working on the upcoming pokémon game which you know as codename "pokémon stars".
I'll be leaving here few infos because u'll soon get an official announcement.

the new game will be available both for 3DS and Nintendo Switch. Only one title, not a couple of games.
the two versions can, of course, communicate.
Game will be again set in Alola, no visiting Kanto. Most of the characters will be grown up, such as Gladion that now fully runs Aether Paradise on his own.
Gyms are now built up. No more Alolan trials.
there will be no new pokémon or megas. Necrozma is getting a new form though. there will be new exclusive Z-moves. Won't say
anything more on them.
while the game is a sequel, plot is heavily focused on past events, such as black & white 2: you'll know more about how Mohn lost his memories, and how Necrozma fell into our world. (hint: "stars"!)
the game is heavily filled with cutscenes, even more than Sun & Moon.

what you see here is a grown up Gladion in his new suit. Feel free not to believe, i don't want any troubles on leaking things. Do not ask anything, I won't be saying more than what's already in the post.

Could be a sequel à la Black/White2 - new story, new characters, new gyms etc - and not just a port with a few gimmicks, but S/M isn't even 1 year old so that seems unlikely.

Nintendo's E3 show is focused on Switch.

The only reason they are putting this out early is because it's for the 3DS.

It's time to face reality.

Okay I'll be that guy and wish for something that no one wants: I want a Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver remake but with an extra added emphasis on story and more features.

For Switch.

Johto is my favorite that's why.

ehh don't believe that at all.

Well, one possibility floated around in this thread is the notion of a Gen 1 remake/sequel. I mean, I'd hardly expect it to push the graphical threshold of the system itself if so - it'd probably look just like an uprezzed Sun/Moon game, and would be made relatively quick.

That said, thinking on it... I can't help but expect something for the 3DS from this. I can't say I feel like there's enough of an install base on Switch yet for GF to go all in just yet.

If that's a real screenshot then that looks pretty decent as just an HD port. Not sure how much I believe this could be a sequel though, rather than a port.

We don't have long to go to find out though!

I didn't say they would do it with this entry, if it's even a new game. But walking through Viridian Forest or Lavender Town, with that perspective, or more seamless fights would change things for me to a point where i don't care if it's Kanto for the 4th time.

first is would Kanto for the 5th time

second it wouldn't change anything, it's just a fresh coat of paint over a 20 year out model

I want to believe...

My biggest hesitation is the fact that Nintendo has still been pushing the 3DS so much. I hope it's dual platform a la Fire Emblem. If it's just 3DS I'm going to be so disappointed.

If it's Stars at all.

I'm optimistic but the most nintendo thing ever would be the announcement of pokemon stars tomorrow exclusively on 3DS

Pokémon go console edition
Only on switch

Enable location and you'll get to walk your trainer to every gym x pokestop

I'd start playing again if I could play from home.

Pokemon Stars almost certainly will have a 3DS version, though I hope Switch gets a version.

Game Freak has been pretty consistent is sticking with the older console with the larger install base, but we'll see tomorrow...

Eurogamer leaked it around the day Sun and Moon came out. Apparently a Switch-exclusive HD "third edition" of Sun and Moon, with additional content.

Was it that long ago? Geez

No way it's gonna be for Switch.

Nintendo already can't keep up with demand for the console. Release Pokémon for it, and you're introducing a Mad Max scenario. If they're smart, they'll hold off until next spring, after holiday demand has died down.
