I'm not losing anything, this direct was awful and only hurts Nintendo as a result. It doesn't even make a lot of sense I'm just left with tons of questions.
Why immediately start talking about Switch and having this rather big highly produced trailer for a port?
Why specifically say its the 'first' game as if there was another we should be expecting?
Why have the US/UM trailer cut right into the very ending of the Pokken trailer like they did?
Why say that US/UM are 'alternative stories' without clarifying anything, that statement makes it seem like they are LITERALLY the same games we just had and same timeline just a different story or character headlining everything.
Why JUST 3DS? Why not at least post these games to the Switch, its the same thing people were asking about Fire Emblem Echoes.
Why talk SO much previously about a mainline Pokemon title heading to the Switch as mentioned in interviews above and not even HINT at it happening?
Why Just Gold/Silver and not Crystal? They did R/B/Y for Gen 1, why exclude Crystal?
Also since you bright B2/W2 up, the difference here is that I could still have played B2/W2 on 3DS since it was backwards compatible, that wasn't THAT big of a deal but here I can't do that if I don't have a 3DS. With B2/W2 you could at least make the excuse that it was still going to be playable on the newer hardware but you can't even do that with US/UM.
I think part of the problem isn't just that people were expecting Stars (I mean we all were at least in some small or big way) the problem is that the idea that Stars was coming was largely back upped by Nintendo themselves by talking about putting a mainline Pokemon game on the Switch not to mention the unused content found in S/M (such as the Pokemon being able to walk behind the trainer like in HG/SS) and other things like the 'look to the stars' merchandise and everything else, it all looked like Pokemon Stars was really a thing, not to mention that the ending of S/M certainly seemed to suggest that there was more of the story to tell but in Kanto and Kanto is generally a key point of interest for S/M so it seemed like continuing the story in a 'third' version made sense and would be a fairly easy thing to do on the Switch porting and reusing already existing assets in many cases instead of just outright making a new game.

The crazy conspiracy theorist in me would like to point out that Nintendo is currently focusing on "summer" games for Switch. Stars could still be a fall title.
Everything in this Direct is coming out on or after the Southward Equinox; this is all coming out in Fall.
But if this is out on Nov 17, they wouldn't want to announce any switch version before then - so are we looking at spring 2018 at the earliest for a switch Pokemon?

I just don't see how Nintendo is sooo outta touch with reality with everything. I swear they have ppl locked away in a bunker that haven't been outside since the late 90s/early 2000s. Lol
While I think this is a bad move, there is still hope there will be another mainline Pokémon game on Swtich soon. The 3DS is on life support right now and they won't be releasing Pokémon games there forever. It's a Black 2/White 2 situation, DS was on it's lasts legs but the game was probably in development for such a long time and the player base was so big that they had little to lose releasing the game there.

Google says that summer ends the day that Pokken DX comes out. So if it releases before the 23rd it's still a summer game. BOOM.

That makes sense; however, Sun/Moon were just released last year. Like... did GF not see the forest for the trees? What kind of start up time was there on this Enhanced remake?
If I had to guess, whoever they got it from heard rumors of Pokken Switch and USM and ended up conflating them.

Ya the Switch rumor was really damaging here (I use damaging lightly though, since it really won't affect sales much in the end). If this had been announced and no rumors of a Switch version existed, then the reaction wouldn't have been nearly as bad.

I'd be curious to hear something from them as there are plenty of possible scenarios here. Did their source give them false information that they decided to run with instead of double and triple verifying? Is it possible that "Stars" is real and their source just didn't know the content was also coming to 3DS? Was "Stars" a real project at one point that has since been scrapped in favor of something different for Switch?
I sold my 3DS because I'm tired of playing games at 240p. So I don't really care about missing this if it's 3DS exclusive, wouldn't play it if I still had one.

Has anyone talked about how at the end of the Ultra Sun & Moon trailer, the short scene where the trainer activates the Z crystal is of much higher quality and resolution than anything else in the trailer?

It's possible it was just done for the video, but it seems a little out of place. If it was just for that one scene, why not use a much higher quality model?
