After 2015 I just stopped being hype about it. It'll come when it comes. I have absolutely no faith in Nomura regarding release/info dates. I have faith that the game will be good, but until I actually have the game in my hands, I'm not going to worry about it.

Don't expect news (or nothing to note) at E3. Blame Nomura that his team is spending too much time on the Frozen land in KH3 ;)

Normally SE will say if KH3 isn't going to be there... they've been completely silent so I'm assuming we'll see something, likely at Sony's conference.

I'm not worried about a thing after playing 0.2, if that's the kind of quality we're getting I want Nomura and dev team to take their sweet time.

Still think it's coming out this holiday.

Development times and cost are too high. The video game generation should last long making game development eventually cheaper.

As an outsider that knows next to nothing about Square Enix's RPGs, what the fuck has been going on with KH and FF? FFXV finally
heh
came out last year and I swear I've heard about KH being in development for nearly a fucking decade now. Are the devs just insanely incompetent? Are they naively ambitious to a humongous fault? What is going on over there...?

No KH game has been in development for a decade.

Japanese video game companies hit a bottleneck last generation. Once legendary Japanese companies have become parodies of themselves.

I'm guessing it's because they're pretty heavy on seniority, while Western companies are more merit based. Devs who hit their peak in the 90s (Nomura and Kitase) are now leading projects they have no business being a part of.

Western devs are more cutthroat, which is awful for employees, but leads to more consistent products. It also keeps the industry young, because older devs tend to retire to the Indie scene once they burn out of AAA.

Kingdom Hearts 3 didn't start development until mid-2013. From 2005 onwards after KH2 they put out lower-budget games on portable systems while building on the storyline. A lot of people go "It's taken over a decade!!!" because they wanted and expected work on KH3 to start immediately.

As for the development woes of KH3. It was announced way too early, Nomura admitted this as soon as it was announced. Seems like it was a higher-ups decision to build hype and interest at the start of this generation. It also had to change engines due to Luminous Engine not working out. This cost them a year of time. Since then they've been working on KH3 for 3 years in Unreal Engine 4 (while also putting out a demo for KH3 in a recent HD Collection)

Information, footage and even screenshots have been pretty damn low for the game but E3 should be the moment we see the fruits of their labor. I personally think we'll see the game released in 2018. E3 will probably be make or break on that I think. We could get nothing but I don't think they've spent all this time twiddling their thumbs. HD game development was and still is a major hurdle for Japanese devs also.

Here's the "insider" post about KH III not being at E3:

Not sure what of these will be announced by Sony (I think all Square, but yeah!)

USA release date for DQXI.
FFVII/KH3 won't have much to say about
Dissidia: Final Fantasy to console
Avengers Marvel project with Square. New trailer, name reveal and a hint at others that will be released later on.

For E3 attendees, FF14 Stormblood section for the players. Naoki Yoshida will be there and players can do some dungeon challenges for a free shirt.

The Marvel part makes me suspicious though.

FFXV and KH3 were announced at the PS4's first e3 presentation presumably to help sell next gen systems. KH had basically no work done so they made a CG "concept" teaser to announce they were actually making it. FFXV was likely further along but it also had concept CG trailer to reveal it.
Nomura was in charge of both until a few months later it was announced he was leaving Tabata in charge of FF. KH3 changed engines from the FFXV one to UE4.
So one had a director change and its engine was having some issues so SE decided to swap mid development.
(Not a great sign)
After a couple delays FFXV launched...unfinished. They're still updating it to this day. KH3 doesn't have a release year yet, tho e3 might change things.
Throw in the recent FF7 stuff and it's kind of a big mess.
SE seems poorly managed, at least with their big internal projects focusing on the wrong things most of the time made worse by their need to announce games years in advance. This has been a thing for awhile, doesn't seem like they'll change up any time soon.

Maybe if they stop making Nomura juggle 2-3 projects at a time and focusing on graphics like fancy rock textures or dumb food renders they might improve. We'll see

Let's be honest a trailer needs to hit hard at e3 and be amazing

Voice acting,two new worlds,Disney characters,etc

After e3 nomura should be able to go into detail of how some systems work..but 0.2 no! 0.2 is missing a lot of things I don't wanna hear it. 4 years that's enough to show some substantial stuff

Idk why y'all acting so weird about the xv team photographing rocks. It's very common for development teams to go location scouting and taking photos of random shit for reference.
It'll turn into a full xv thread eventually if enough ppl mention nomura

It's weird for a game to put a ridiculous amount of attention to detail to background elements, but neglect story and cutscene direction.

I have no expectation for it to appear at E3. If it does, it'll be a very pleasant surprise.

I believe Jim Sterling said (joked) that Square Enix clearly prefers announcing games to actually making them, which based on KH3, FF7R, FFXV etc seems to be pretty accurate

I will be blunt as possible here; Kingdom Hearts III will release in 2018 regardless of what state the 'finished' game is in. 2018 has no Kingdom Hearts game currently announced and they make it a 'yearly' release. They ran out of remasters to make/sell, so the final bit is Kingdom Hearts III itself.

I expect E3 2017 to kick off the game's 'hype' cycle starting with a story trailer and a 2018 release date (no date, just 2018). We see announced worlds shown off with a brand new world teased at the end of the trailer. E3 has the Olympus World playable on the Show Floor, proving to people KH3 is a real game and that it's really in deep development. That is the lease Square Enix can do...

To be frank, I'm sick of waiting for KH3. Thankfully, Disney being down Square's throats will help push things along. They want to promote various IP's (Star Wars, Moana, Gigantic, Finding Dory, Marvel, etc) so they will ensure worlds they want to get exposure will be in the game, and to tie in with those upcoming releases....Disney will push for a 2018 release date. Disney owns the IP, not Square Enix (which is why the King Micky Costume and Keyblade was in Disney Infinity 3.0).

Repeat after me: Nomura is a hack and I shouldn't believe his lies. He's a con man better served as the cafeteria guy at square, only that the lunch would never be ready, and the difference between him and Molyneux is that Molyneux does release games.

How can anyone see this and think it's coming before 2019?

Because the quote is a bit out of context. The quote was in relation to Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy VII Remake.

"We plan to launch each of these upcoming titles in the next three years or so."

It's meant to mean that within the next three years, both of those games will be released. And obviously, we all know that Kingdom Hearts III will release first.

And I believe it will be in 2018.

You will be ashamed of your words and deeds.

Nomura just released two games this year!
The only new content was 0.2 but still.

So at what point do we stop blaming it all on Nomura and just blame it on SE as a whole?

Probably never. It'll continue to be his fault after the mess that was Versus XIII. If people think a game he's involved with is taking too long it defaults to him unless an inside source comes out and throws shade at upper management.

To be fair he also gets the praise for everything ''his games'' do right. That's kinda the fate of a director, you take both heat and the praise from the work of hundreds of people.
