Assassins Creed: Origins Cinematic Trailer

I couldn't wait for an Egypt AC but I wasn't impressed. Visually it looked cool and will be fun to explore but the gameplay was the same old crap it's been for the past several years. It also looks like the Spider-man climbing is back full force instead of it being a challenge and an essential gameplay experience of the earlier games.

And...ummm. A giant snake? Really?

No offense but the combat looked significantly different than what we've gotten throughout the entire series.

Probably the part where black people have a monolithic look.

He didn't imply that. You seem to be confused. Egyptians would not generally be considered 'black' people. (Obviously there are exceptions, there has always been a flow of people from Sudan and beyond).

How so? Would happily edit my comment if its off base. I just googled Alexandria city dimensions and the average top speed of a horse.

Edit: there is a difference between being able to explore and get lost for hours vs having to sprint on a horse at full speed for >1 hour just to cross a city (which is only a small part of what Assassin's Creed Origins has to offer)

My comment was not meant as an insult to the people making this game. I am in awe of what they have done. Especially at the sense of scale that has been achieved. I was just pointing out to the person disapointed that Alexandria had been cut down/shrunk that there were reasons why that would make sense.

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
you act as if dice games arent doing things AC isnt. horizon zero dawn has no problem easily outpacing dice games visually with 2x the frame MS budget
Again you act as if the two situations are directly comparable. Just that one small snippet of city gameplay had more npcs than any city in Horizon. A lot more human AI roaming around too. Maybe stop comparing the visuals to other games, (the alpha no less when both Unity and Syndicate received visual upgrades after their alphas were seen). ANYWAY:

Last Asscreed game I was excited for was 2.

This is finally one I can be excited for again. Looks great.

I so called there would be pyramid surfing!

Didn't see any fancy sand tech though, bitterly disappointed

Looks like fun, it definitely looks like a mish mash of every Ubi game created to date - drones from Ghost Recon, towers from all the AC games, animal fuckery from Far Cry Primal, open world-ish from Far Cry, map markers from every AC game, combat from a mash up of Far Cry and Ghost Recon, etc - but still, I enjoy the AC stories and look forward to an origins story.

Please dear god though, have someone competent deal with the modern day era story and either reboot the whole thing or just completely ignore it, the modern day stuff has more or less gotten incomprehensible after AC3.

I'm mostly surprised there isn't any sort of "game as a service" thing built in ala Recon or For Honor, that seemed to be a thing Ubi was forcing into every game.

I cannot believe some of the posts in this thread.

Anyways, that looks really good, though I don't like how heavily they're leaning on the RPG mechanics. Worst parts of the last two games, imo.

They're not going to reboot or get rid of the Modern Day story.

I think I liked the idea of Egypt than actually playing in Egypt. It just all seems kind of bland. Nothing really sticks out besides the very stoic main character. Hopefully we'll see way more soon.

I think I was onboard until the combat was shown.

It looks really janky.
It looks like it plays better than past AC games (from AC4 and before, since I haven't played the last two).

But the combat animations do look a little rough right now, especially that dodge move.

Hopefully they'll be polished a bit more before release.

Combat looks more fun to me.

it looks like they are putting more of a focus on actually having to defend yourself either by dodging (with quick steps and not bloody stupid rolls, thank God) or blocking with the shield.

That's what we needed from combat, more depth and less focus on simply hitting counter and counter over and over.

As far as the rpg mechanics go, those I am still waiting to see.

The main thing I hope that means is actual QUESTS and stories to discover out and about in the world. Where you aren't just on a linear storyline doing mission after mission but actually find npc's and things in the world that lead you on quest and open more narratives.

Same. I was hoping for a very bare bones and realistic Egypt to explore. Lots of dungeon crawling, exploring, secrets, and back to basics gameplay. Looks like instead it's going to going to be a repeat of the Unity/Syndicate format with a dull main character and goofy monster/God fights.

I dont know

He doesn't come across as a particularly compelling character tbh. The voice acting is also pretty bad.

Anyway, the game looks underwhelming and the combat looked really janky. Not sure how much they can refine that aspect from now until release—considering they took a year off as well.

That's Assassin's Creed game alright. Maybe the combat changes will be huge game changers, idk, but everything still seems rather unexciting. I'll keep an eye on this, but I'm not wowed like I'd hope I'd be.

I honestly can't tell the difference in gameplay with the other games. Interested in seeing more but I was hoping for something else.

They had that big "ALPHA GAMEPLAY" in the right corner

it still looks rough, maybe we will see something else in the Ubisoft conference

Looks decent. Melee combat needs work, but it's still in alpha. World looks great, and exploration should be fun. Don't know if the narrative hook of killing random targets every time will be enough.

Never played an Assassin's Creed game, but will keep an eye on this.

I'm wondering if the 4K resolution on Scorpio doesn't hold the graphic settings down (so it might not be "Ultra"). Still looked pretty good. I don't know if it'll end up being as pretty as Unity/Syndicate was for big cities (still blown away by these textures and lighting). It would have been perfect for the Frosbite, given how great it looks for desert and forest areas!

The gameplay looks pretty cool, but the fact that the story centers on the origins of the Brotherhood sort of worries me. I'm of the opinion that its sometimes better to leave things shrouded in mystery, and playing through all of the games, I sort of liked that the Brotherhood was always there throughout history (I know that AC1 technically had a contained Brotherhood, but I loved finding out that they were far greater after the reveal that they continued into the modern day and also that there were Assassins long before Altair) with no start and no end, from the very beginning of civilization.

Anyone else feel this way? I'm a pretty big fan of AC's storyline, and I hope this doesn't turn out to be disappointing like the resolution to Desmond's arc.

Gameplay bit was hugely disappointing. I like the setting though so i hope the full game will prove me wrong.

I don't know if the devs have ever met an Egyptian. The MC looks very dark for an Egyptian, much darker than my family.
Ubisoft has 12000 employees and studios in places like Abu Dhabi or Casablanca. They should have some Egiptian employees or at least know some egiptians personally.

In any case, they can just use Google.

Still has that classic Assassin's Creed jank. I can't believe they haven't figured out a better way to show a sword being thrust into someone than just having it awkwardly clip into the body.
Still, I'm excited for the protagonist, the setting and the big dumb monster.

not really feeling it to be honest. Not sure what it is, Ancient Egypt fasincates me so its not the setting, but somethings not clicking

Damn, the gameplay didnt impress me. Hopefully they show more that changes my mind because I am so in for the setting. Also the protagonist has potential.

I think the compass is way better than the minimap. It's going to make exploration way easier, no more looking at the minimap more than at the action. The rest of the HUD is almost exactly as intrusive as every other AC game so I don't see the issue.

yeah the old AC games had such non-intrusive huds and maps lol

Oh I'm not arguing about the HUD intrusiveness. It's about it being the same old AC formula. I loved the map tho, seemed to have a lot more options to complete the assassination than previous AC games

Gameplay wise, nothing new so far. adding some features from previous games but still nothing interesting enough to surprise me.

There was black people in egypt on that era?

Egypt (or at least Alexandria and some of the other big cities) was a pretty multicultural place at the time. You could find people of almost all ethnicities there (except, obviously, for those who were geographically cut-off like Native Americans, etc).

I hope they do spin offs in Greece and Rome like with the Ezio trilogy

That has been rumoured for a while, yeah.
