Looked great! Played the previous games multiple times through and really enjoyed the atmosphere. High hopes for this one, 4A Game are a talented bunch and the source material is pretty solid stuff to work with. Hope we'll here more about how the world works now soon. I dig there's more stuff above ground, but I hope we still get a lot of metro to explore, too.

This looked fantastic, but yes it was highly scripted in-engine footage built for showcase purposes. Nice to see it's taking a more rural approach to world design.

It's funny because earlier in the day I was watching a friend play Resistance 3 and it got me in the mood for a similar narrative FPS so I actually re-downloaded Metro Redux a few hours before MS's presser as I never properly got into those games - got to chapter 3 in Metro 2033 and never started Last Light so eager to jump back in now.

Damn, how did I miss this? It's an obviously over-scripted/rendered vertical slice, but since I loved the previous two games I am very confident in this one. Hype!

Can't wait to play this, but how is their breathable air on the surface above the Metro? I thought chemical weapons were what destroyed the environment and made the air unbreathable?

Oh I thought it was exclusive.

None of the previous Metro games were exclusive, I don't know why you thought this would be.

Looked cool. CG trailer?

Heh. Metro LL had amazing visuals and it was released years ago.

Keep your Stalker 2 pants on a little longer. This sounds and looks more like a Crysis approach to level design imo.

So... kind of like Stalker then. Stalker also wasn't a 'open world' game, but it was divided in sectors, and you usually advanced between them in a linear way, except in the middle area where you jumped back and forth more.

I hope Metro: Redux is for sale in the Steam summer sale as I feel like now would be a good time to pick them up ahead of this as the game looked amazing.

Hold on there people. Metro is the complete antithesis of Stalker, like literraly every single molecule is plus infinite and minus infinite different. A little estethic similarities doesnt make Metro into Stalker. One is the champion of freeform gameplay and ultra hardcore design for PC. The other is an onrails, heavily story driven scripted shooter for modern console audiences. We'll see how open the new Metro is and how it works, but it wont be Stalker.

Have you played the last DLC for Metro LL?

It played very different than the rest, and the base game. I always thought it was kind of a prototype for a more open version of Metro, very inspired by Stalker.

You were getting artifacts by exploring non-linear ruins and a exterior section and selling them, with a time limited by your filters, and of course with the money you get you were buying ammo, more filters, healthkits, new weapons, etc.

Don't the originals look better in some areas? Or is that the Bioshock "remasters" I'm thinking of?

This is not exclusive?.. Thats some good news. This is the only game (other than ACO) that looked interesting to me in their entire presentation.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the Redux version of 2033 was an all around great port of the game to the Last Light engine.
They tweaked some gameplay stuff but iirc you also had the option to play the game as it was originally balanced.

Metro 2033 never came out on PS3 so the series has a connection to Xbox in some minds. Add a very confusing "exclusive/not exclusive" style of last night's Xbox conference and you shouldn't be surprised there are a lot of people asking if it's an exclusive or not.

Speaking of the game, I was very surprised to hear 4A's name right at the beginning of the conference. I KNEW it was going to be a new Metro and it did look fantastic. I want to see a real gameplay demo tho.

on pc it looks for the most part 90% better but some areas have less volunetric lights and the smije particles are not as thick / physicalized. Lots of upgrades though. Consoles are nissing aa lot of effectd but get avperfect 60 fps.

Considering they hinting at exploring different regions of Russia - I hope they're going to St Petersburg. Would be a great setting (very different from Moscow) - and it has a huge metro network so there's plenty to go with for an underground community. In Last Light there's also Rangers talking of rumours about St Petersburg - something about someone going there by plane and contacting people there. I think some of the later books (haven't read beyond the first three yet) also talk about St Petersburg.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.

Hit and miss. It's not a clusterfuck of a downgrade or anything like that and for most part looks just as good, if not better in certain nuances. But changes made to the lighting, either technically or aesthetically, do reduce the richness of the darkest areas. Some levels that are super dark in Last Light are considerably less so in Redux.

That being said, it's also the "best way" to play 2033, which still looks incredible.

Cannot wait to play this on PC or PS4 Pro (depending on the port) they did a great job with the first 2 games on PS4, so hopefully the console versions get good optimisation with this one too.

Thanks guys. I need to get round to playing these games and Wolfenstein some time soon. The backlog just grows and grows...

Have they confirmed whether the story is a follow-on from 2033/Last Light or is it a new entry?

Continuation of Artyom's story. From their website:

A quarter-century after nuclear war devastated the earth, a few thousand survivors still cling to existence beneath the ruins of Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro.

They have struggled against the poisoned elements, fought mutated beasts and paranormal horrors, and suffered the flames of civil war.

But now, as Artyom, you must flee the Metro and lead a band of Spartan Rangers on an incredible, continent-spanning journey across post-apocalyptic Russia in search of a new life in the East.

Metro Exodus is an epic, story-driven first person shooter from 4A Games that blends deadly combat and stealth with exploration and survival horror in one of the most immersive game worlds ever created.

Explore the Russian wilderness across vast, non-linear levels and follow a thrilling story-line that spans an entire year through spring, summer and autumn to the depths of nuclear winter.

Inspired by the novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky, Metro Exodus continues Artyom's story in the greatest Metro adventure yet.

From the way gun, player and camera were moving all of this was screaming Killzone 2 reveal.

Let's hope for the best, it did look great.

Oh shit, best E3 annoucement so far. More open areas was exactly what the Metro series needed, I felt very constrained for most of these games and there weren't enough levels like Sundown.

You don't need to be empathetic towards me.

Exactly what I was thinking.

It wasn't just scripted, it wasn't actual gameplay.

It looked like a mash-up of every open-world game cliche available.

Technically impressive yet there was so much uniform detail in the environments it looked really hard to read and taxing for the eyes. Like goddamn, have you ever heard of visual hierarchy!

I bought Metro Redux for $20 the day I got my PS4, still haven't opened it yet. Looks like that's about to change soon.

I thought it looked amazing, definitely the game of MS's show.

Only concern I had was been hearing the words "Target Render", and EG mentions this is what they expect it to look like...

Geoff K did some great interviews last night on Youtube, asking great questions. He asked if it was running on XBOX hardware, they stated no it was running on X like hardware. Basically running on PC....

I feel like I should be more into these games than I have been. I've sort of grown out of shooters, but the Metro games are not like others, they have a distinct soul to them, the whole Eastern European, harsh post-apocalypse theme and atmosphere. Yet I've barely played them.

I don't know how "Russian" this game will be. 2033 started the series off as a more mainstream focused game than Stalker, but it had these ideas, like ammo as currency.
There will probably always be some remnants of that in the work these people do. But basically I hope that those kinds of ideas will have a place in some interesting manner. I like interesting things. They interest me.

4A is super underrated. Probably because they only make these Metro games? Both 2033 and LL are two of the best FPS games of last generation. Judging by footage, this will be another benchmark game for years to come.
