From helpless, sexualized damsel in distress to famous singer/Mayor of New Donk City. There's something genuinely endearing about how she turned her life around after being effectively replaced by Princess Peach in the main series. Plus, she even talks about how she fixed up the city after a unspecified massive disaster (talk about lore, lmao).

I wonder how Donkey Kong will factor into this. The city is named after him as well...

It's definitely pretty odd to see her actually be utilized in a proper Mario game. She seemed kinda like one of those characters doomed to be in nothing but spinoffs (i.e Daisy)

Maybe if we ever get a new Wario Land game, they'll have a co-op mode and they'll bother to make Waluigi the second player, lol.

I said it once and i'll say it again: Donkey Kong will be the final villain of the game and you'll have to climb a tower in New Donk City to stop him.

This does make me wonder though: If she's a mayor, does that mean the Mushroom Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy? If so, how has the government done nothing about the continuous invasions from King Koopa and his forces?

Marking her debut in the main Super Mario series, Pauline will be appearing in Super Mario Odyssey as the mayor of New Donk City, the game's primary hub area. She was strongly implied to have been involved in rebuilding of the city after a disaster that occurred in the city, with Mario's help.

I really don't want to see her kidnapped again, but Mario settling the score with Donkey Kong (instead of Bowser) would make for an interesting Finale.

I was thinking this too, but we have that Peach and Bowser plot.

I see Bowser being the Last boss. Unless you become Bowser and use him to defeat DK

I kinda wish the other people in New Donk City shared her cartoony aesthetic or vice versa. I understand that this game is intentionally going for a varied set of art styles that all clash with each other, but her being the mayor of a town where everyone looks more realistic than her is.... Sort of weird.

I never thought Pauline would be this famous. I love it.

When I was younger I played a ton of Donkey Kong 1994 and so for me it was "who the heck is princess toadstool/peach"

Eh, not so sure about sexualized...I'll give the OP helpless perhaps (for her previous roles as a damsel in distress, not her mayor self now). I am quite fond of how now she's Mayor (how badass is that!) and her new look is awesome! It's been quite a megaton for me how she's even back at all, especially in a mainline Super Mario game (her 1st appearance in a Super Mario series game IIRC)

Seriously. How hard is it for her to make a cameo appearance? Pauline has been seen outside of the Mario vs. DK series while Daisy is in AL the spinoffs.

The again Luigi is never seen in Mario platform games where he isn't playable.

Still hoping for a 3D World Sequel where Toadette and Daisy are available even if they're palette swaps.

New Donk City is not in the Mushroom Kingdom. It's in the Metro Kingdom.

Hanging out with Mario and the crew only leads to trouble.
Glad my girl dumped him and went on to better things. If only "Princess" Peach could see the Star at the end of the rainbow road.

I just remembered something: The Donkey Kong in the original was said to be the grandfather of the Donkey Kong we're all familiar with from Mario Party and the Country series so...shouldn't she be a lot older than she looks, or did she just age well? That aside, having an older woman in the Mario series would be a neat diversion from the usual side characters one would find in a support role for a Mario platformer.

That just raises even more questions: What has this kingdom been up to during the intervening games? Was Pauline always a resident of this kingdom, or did she leave the Mushroom Kingdom to pursue a career in politics? Who is their head of state if they're a kingdom? Do they have trade relations with the Beanbean Kingdom?

I'm excited about Pauline being in a main game; that's cool she's the Mayor, putting her in a realistic version of Peach's role, she seems way-too left-field to be the only major character returning, though, especially with character interactions being a thing now. Part of me's holding out hope for Sarasaland!

... Or at least Donkey Kong to show up in New Donk City. Or better yet, K. Rool!

As for weird relationship manipulation, if DK's involved, then Candy is, too. My money's on this being some long-term way for Wart to finally seduce Waluigi. Bowser, Peach, Mario, Pauline, DK? All just players for the real wedding of the century.

It's going to be beautiful.
