The patterns aren't as obvious as the PS2 version but I think they've kept some colossus hair directionality on PS4, as well as being physics-animated.

I hope Wander's hair moves. Looked fairly static in the trailer.

God, this is so amazing. Finally this game will be attainable for an audience who were too young to play it when it came out, and couldn't stand to play an old looking game. Because design wise it really holds up.

Don't think I've played it in 4 or 5 years, I'll be so happy to. I'd like to reach the top of the tower this time. Couldn't find enough fruits on my PS2 playthrough. In fact I barely unlocked anything.

I really wanted the parachute.

Whilst its true that the ps2 version runs at an unlocked framerate it never goes above 30fps in game. And from what I have read and experienced myself we are still a LONG way away from having processing power that can emulate the game at a locked 60fps.

For reference:

Actually the game can hit 60fps on the PS2 under highly specific circumstances. It uses double buffered vsync, it tops out a 30fps unless it hits 60fps.

And you absolutely can run it at 60fps on PCSX2. Your own link links to this video:

I wonder if they will make "The Tower" an official place you can go to instead of just an empty area that was not meant to be reached. That would be nice for them to place some easter egg up there for the fans.

Maybe a horned figure left behind? ;)

It's funny, the remaster/remake shot is how the game always looks in my memories, but of course that was never the reality! Many props to Bluepoint for such a loving recreation. I can't wait to see the rest of the colossi, but at the same time I hope they don't put all of them in the trailers, it'd be nice to be surprised in-game.

I love the way they did the eyes.

They're stunning! I love how the iris of the colossi slowly rotate, too - with some of the colossi they seem to move clockwise, others anti-clockwise.

The Last Guardian was my first Ueda directed game and it was incredible. I'm so so so excited for this.

Man, if you thought The Last Guardian was good prepare to have your mind blown. Last Guardian is a seriously flawed game that is carried somewhat by the incredible atmosphere, visuals and astonishing achievement that is Trico himself and the attachment you develop for him. It's often a total drag to play, though, with camera issues, level design issues, shit combat / chase sequence issues and so on.

SotC, on the other hand, is actually an astonishingly good videogame from a pure gameplay and pacing perspective, as well as having all of the atmosphere and story 'feels' that TLG provides.

This is always the best thing you can say about a remaster, imo. Ocarina of Time 3d was an amazing example of that, the first time I played it I thought they'd changed nothing at all, then I went back to the original and my mind was blown at the upgrade job they'd done.

Yeah .. sincerely disagree with the poster who said a few pages ago how this remake seems to lose it's charm. BP have done a phenomenal job re-creating the game with modern rendering techniques while keeping the essence of the original.

Hopefully the added 3D water ripples are reactive to Wanda and Agro to bring it more in line with The Last Guardian and ICO's windmill pool.

The water-based colossi would be that much more spectacular.

It will be a variable framerate whilst he is playing. No one can get a completely locked 60fps and its clearly explained why in the link, its too demanding regardless of build. The user who posted that video wrote:

"And just to be clear in case it wasn't obvious, the footage in my post has also been recorded using the PCSX2 recording function. No other way to do this."

And the pcsx2 recording function plays back at full speed regardless of the performance you get whilst playing the game so isnt an indicator of emulation performance, just a hypothetical of what it could do with double the current single thread performance.

If you actually want an experience closer to real hardware set the vu cycle stealing hack to 1. This effectively creates a frame skip so the game will only render 30 of the 60 frames whilst still keeping the 60hz output. There will still be frame rate drops but they will not be as severe as without the hack enabled.

Man I can't wait to go against certain colossi again. In particular Avion, Hydrus, Pelagia, Phalnax and Malus.

I know those encounters are going to be glorious in the remake.

I know most aren't going to agree with me, but I really don't think this needed to happen. A remake to a game that's only 11 years old and even received an updated port just a few years back? I can't help but think this was a quick answer to the disappointing sales of TLG.

They should've just made a sequel or a reboot if they wanted to make another SotC. Or an expanded remake, where it contains much of the original games content along with a second game worth of content on top of it.

Making a more-expensive-than-a-remaster remake of still a relatively niche game like SotC doesn't sound like a logical answer to (apparently?) disappointing TLG sales.

I agree that it didn't need to happen. They should have just added it to PS2 to PS4 classics section. I think Demon's Souls remaster should have been a bigger priority for bluepoint.

I can't actually recall anyone who was asking for this

TLG sales were disappointing? I thought they were way higher than ICO and SOTC sales

It's not stable 60 and also requires a more beefier pc to keep it stable 60 just for this game on pcsx2 also not everything ran up to 60 like the shadows which runs at 30fps etc, look it up the emulator doesn't do too well with emulating this at stable 60 without any issues

SotC remake >>>>>> a Demon Souls remaster

The definitive version of the game I hope. No framerate issues, beautiful fur, beautiful graphics. I remember seeing bits of this game during a Tokyo Gameshow (remember when those were huge?), time flies.

Japan Studio should employ Bluepoint to dig into The Last Guardian's renderer, both for inspiration and to polish it up a bit.

This game is by far more of a landmark for gaming. I think that's probably more important than another (great) game "needing" it more. It's not hard to see their reasoning.

Also I don't remember the HD collection look as bad as the top image in that comparison.

Fix framerate, the resolution is gravy.

Already fixed on PS3.

Since I don't have a PS4 and I won't be able to play this I guess I'll just have to deal with the PS3 version. I'll probably have to replay it here soon and cry myself to sleep that following night....

I'd rather have the remake over both the PS2 version and the PS3 remaster. This game is a classic and the remake will hopefully help it find a wider audience. Can't believe some are arguing against having more awesome shit to play. And I have yet to see a decent argument for why this remake shouldn't happen.

Exactly. Game is regularly cited as an example of how video games can be art. In my opinion, it's one of the most significant games of the modern era for that fact alone. Never mind the fact that it's an amazing game to boot, with breathtaking visuals, gameplay and one of the greatest soundtracks ever.

Trying to say this is pointless and games X or Y should have been made instead just seems asinine.

A SotC remake shits on a Demon Souls remaster all the way from Mount Olympus. We've gotten plenty of Souls games but nothing has remotely come close to capturing the feel of SotC.

This is the best timeline. We get a SotC remake. Hopefully Sony gets From to make a Bloodborne 2. Done and done.
