Jose Otero is leaving IGN and starting a job at Nintendo

Jose, Peer and Brian has basically been a dream team for NVC, they complement each other extremely well. Jose will definitely leave some big shoes to fill, not really sure who could do it of the current IGN staff.

Yeah, the last time NVC was this strong was back in the Matt and Bozon days.

Sam is in charge of IGN Guides/Wikis. It will be whoever takes over as Nintendo lead writer at IGN. Maybe Brenden takes over?

Good point, but I could see Brian taking over hosting duties and Sam appearing as a guest more often? Sam certainly fits in and is knowledgeable so it seems like a natural fit in my opinion regardless of his job title. Of course time spent with his job might prohibit his ability to come on more. Who knows, just speculating.

He got me back listening to NVC for the first time since the immortal Cassamassina/Bozon combo.

Best of luck to him. He's where he belongs

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
So he will be showing off Prime 4 on Treehouse Live next year ? #believe

I sometimes wonder if some journalists are easier on certain companies because they hope they'll get a job there one day.

Its an obvious career path at this point, so its kinda expected. Though i think guys like Jose were able to balance it and brought up negative points as well

IGN nintendo can't catch a break! First Matt Casamassina and Mark Bozon go to Apple, The Aubrey Drake, and now Jose Otero? Am I missing someone?

Well, Brian already hosts Beyond and Up At Noon, so I doubt he'd want to host NVC as well. Like I said, I see it being the person who takes over the Nintendo channel, whoever that is.

Rich George lol.

Oh yeah, I forgot that Brian does Up at Noon now. I thought Max did most of the hosting duties for Beyond but maybe Brian does more behind the scenes? Who knows lol. Regardless, I will miss Jose.

It's fascinating when a journalist gets a job at the company they cover. He'll finally know all the answers to "why does Nintendo..." and will never be able to tell anyone.

He would have to work at NCL for that though.../s

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
They have a lot of people now that are good for a secondary role on NVC. Sam, Brendan, Miranda, Alanah ect... are good to be on/fill in for Peer or Brian.

Sam use to host and is a decent fill in host. He's too busy with guides though. Feels like they need another editor that leans into Nintendo despite not having specific content teams anymore. That person should be the new host.

Congrats to Jose. I've been a big fan of the Nintendo IGN podcasts (along with most of the IGN Podcasts) since they began and he's definitely one of the most passionate voices they've had.
I'm sure he'll do great work at Nintendo! :)

Well, congrats to him. But I have to admit that it really saddens me to see former Nintendo fans on the other side, having to repeat all that PR talk. Former journalists that will never be able to criticize that company again.

"He'll be missed as (IMO) the voice of us hardcore Nintendo fans at IGN. I always looked forward to his insight and opinions on the world of Nintendo."

But now he will have direct voice from within Nintendo. That's far better than being in a podcast.

Damn, I'll miss Jose over at IGN. He was a major part of NVC - why I got back into it after Matt left ages ago!

Couldn't stand Rich and Audrey while they were at IGN.

lol this is literally the IGN cycle at this point

anyone who does Nintendo Voice Chat ends up working at Nintendo

congrats Jose!

That's great news. He was one of the best personalities on the site, so it's a bummer to see him leave, but working for Nintendo is going to be a big step up. NVC isn't going to be the same without the Otero Welcome.

Good for him! His Nintendo knowledge and passion will be a huge asset to them. I've known Jose since we were kids in the Bronx. He's real good dude. Happy for him.

Jose got me interested again in the IGN Nintendo coverage. He really did a great job. I'm happy for him, but I think the voice chat will survive well with Altano/Peer and maybe Sam or Brendan.

Curious if we'll see him in Treehouse Live. Seeing Audrey every once in a while is great. So here's hoping!
