Media Create Sales: Week 24, 2017 (Jun 12 - Jun 18)

Yeah totally agree with you. Arms was made instead of a Mario Kart 9. Obviously Nintendo doesn't expect Arms to sell MK numbers, but they probably want it to do more than 1 million.

I hope its a success and has huge legs since its pretty damn fun. I am worried about the huge learning curve though since aiming arms, and just getting used to the perspective is really hard, atleast to me. But I've gotten better in my 22 hours of play time.

They also need to add some QOL stuff to it like detailed stat tracking like in Smash, and especially a option to play online party mode in only the mode you want like doubles or VS boss since its such a drag playing modes you don't want, especially when its 1VS1 which if I wanyed to play, I would play ranked.

But overall really have enjoyed it and the overall impression from people that own the game are good. Lets hope it keeps selling and has a long life with DLC and eventual sequels!
I don't think ARMS was made instead of Mario Kart 9

So forgot Snipperclips but in terms of Switch software we have:
500k<
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Breath of the Wild
200k<
1 2 Switch
100k<
Super Bomberman R
ARMS
Snipperclips
50k<
Dragon Quest Heroes 1 and 2 Pack
30k<
Puyo Puyo Tetris
Mana Collection
20k<
Street Fighter 2 Turbo
10<
Spelunker or whatever

Rest are kinda unknown currently. I'm guessing Disgea 5 and I am Setsuna are above 10k but lower than 20k(especially since NIS Japan mentioned the latter being at 20k in a briefing that gave us the 110k western preorders(and assuming I Am Setsuna is close by my guess is 15k for both??)

The other games have probably done less than 10k and those are the KT games at launch and a few weeks later. Most of the time these games do not achieve 10k plus first weekends or weeks and tend to be hovering in the 3 digits to the 3k range(luckily for KT they are cheap to make).

Looking Ahead:
The big factor obviously for Switch hardware and software is Splatoon 2. That title in itself should move significant amounts of hardware and will probably be the first million seller on Switch. However due to stock issues the title could be limited by amount of Switch owners out there. However, we shall see how much Nintendo prepares for this launch. The other titles such as Nights of Azure 2 will probably sell around 10k or less first week. This is due to the lack of an audience the Switch has for the title but that audience should increase as more titles flock from the Vita. Of course after July is MHXX. This title should not be expected to do usual numbers obviously as it is a port of the 3ds version. However Switch hardware should still be moved though not as great as Splatoon. The major question however is the affect of Monster Hunter World on its possible sales. How I see it is the impact will be light and the game will do 150k-200k first week and end around 650-750k lifetime.
Lastly for the Summer is September which should have Xenoverse 2(maybe 20k if we are lucky), Pokken and Fire Emblem Warriors I believe will do better than expected since the IPs are stronger in Japan and are on a more favorable console. I think 100k first weekend for both is not out of the picture but we shall see as they release close to each other. Another factor is how much diminishing of the fighting genre will affect Pokken or will portability and the IP associated will help carry it pass its Wii U counterpart.

Anyway that's all from me!

I don't think ARMS was made instead of Mario Kart 9
It was made by the MK team, which the same team did a quick port first, then started making Arms. So it was made instead of a MK9.

Obviously MK9 will come at some point, but now its much later and most likely after Switch since they only do one MK per system.

It is interesting what will the Mario Kart team do now? Are they making Mario Kart 9? Or another new IP?

That's what I love about the Switch being handheld and console. This is where it gets interesting.

They are probably focused on the ARMS dlc and updating the game.

MY guess is Mario Kart 9 won't come until close to the end of the Switch's life.

Or they could split the Teams. I mean I heard that ARMS is a dream project for Yabuki the main developer of Mario Kart 8. So maybe he will be focusing on ARMS as it seems like a passion project for him.

Personally I'd have them work on something else and get Bamco to port the Arcade game over in 2018.

Shocking news. Anyone looking to get into the game now wouldn't be buying it at retail anyway, digital is faster. Retail will only be for collectors and older fans.

Ah, I wasn't aware.

It covered 2017/06/09-2017/06/18, with 2 deals running.

1. Simultaneous purchase of PS4 hardware and wireless controller -> wireless controller is 50% off (¥5.980 -> ¥2.990)
2. Simultaneous purchase of PS4 software and wireless controller -> ¥1.000 off

Is the team big enough to do 2 big project at once? While i dont think there is any huge urgencies toward Mario Kart right now, i had hard time seeing Nintendo allowing them another new IP project right after ARMS.

Dragon Quest X 4.0 "Hold my beer and watch this"

I'm not sure what the point here is. I mean, DQX is a MMO built to run on a toaster, which they have since successfully expanded on more and more platforms over time. So when you launch an existing MMO on a brand new platform, sure it's going to sell a bit more? Even people who have been playing on existing platforms might decide to switch to the new one. That happened when FFXIV 2.0 launched on PS3, and when they launched the game later on PS4. Stormblood is just an expansion for existing platforms, with nothing driving that sort of expansion at this point.

Was there any thought going into that comment or was it just another low effort throwaway combative comment popular in MC threads these days contributing to further lower the quality of sales discussions and turn the environment into more of a fanboy warzone? You tell me.

It's because DQ MMO can still be strong at retail and I want to see a transition number from Wii (will discontinue service soon) to Switch.

PC is always superior, but I believe DQX's customers are on retail, that can compare to each platforms.

But FFXIV didn't have any of this privilege on JP market.

I don't know why it catalogue as warz or something, I don't have any interest in it.

Wouldn't it be more likely that DQX Switch will be even weaker at retail, given that Wii players are getting a free upgrade?

That's why he said version 4. The free Switch upgrade only covers the older versions up to 3. Nice thing is, you get version 2 and 3 for free even if you didn't buy them for Wii.

Version 4 news come on this August. We get DQ combo left to right this year (hope next year is FF combo)

DQX and DQXI (PS4) play almostly the same, I wanna see where this franchise head to, you know, face of jRPG beside pokemon and FF, popular with women and some post millenial kids.

ARMS DLC. Maybe some MK8DX DLC eventually too.

I don't expect Mario Kart 9 until Switch 2.

It appears there are random restocks of Switch this week. So far the early scenario that Nintendo will keep increasing shipments from Arms and onward isn't wrong.

Are DQX customers really more on retail, or are there simply more Japanese subscribers for DQX than HW? Because it seems fair consistent - FFXIV PS4 sold like 60k, HW PS4 sold like 55k. SB should in theory sell around those numbers too. On the other hand, DQX WiiU sells about 120k consistently for each expansion. Is that a higher ratio of retail to digital customers, or is it maybe the same ratio as FFXIV but with a higher base in Japan?

I guess it will continue being somewhere from 30k+ for the week.

Makes me wonder what kind of an increase we'll see weekly for July and August.

We know there'll at least be big stocks for Splatoon 2 and Monster Hunter on account of the special Switch bundles/themes which ARMS didn't have in comparison.

DQX > FFXIV there sure, and more on retail I don't sure about it 100% and want to see when Switch 4.0 come that they can put "Wii+WiiU number on expansion"? they still steady/grow on retail userbase? and what if DQXI and DQX help each other.

The team is as big as it has to be. It's not a fixed team, only a core of director/producer and some lead programmers. In the past, the Mario Kart team also made Nintendogs for example, so it's not that weird to have them work on another new IP.

I can imagine part of them doing ARMS DLC, maybe part of them working on MK8 DLC if that will still happen, the core team might do some experimenting on new prototypes and the others get shifted to other projects.

There were good digital incentives for DQ10 on wii u back in the day i believe so I'd imagine the digital ratio for it is very good

I have no idea what's going on in the video I posted earlier in the page.

On first impression, Mixi's Fight League looks like a mix of Yugioh with Terra Battle minus the spell/trap cards.

Time to make it crossplay and port it elsewhere. Once Sony stops blocking stuff.

YoshiP want it on Switch (and Xbox too, but...), he will do it if Switch can run that game properly LOL IMO, they just didn't ditch PS3 version because of RAM alone.

Capcom is having fun counting the millions of views of Monster Hunter World Trailer.

The video passed 10 million views worldwide according to this tweet.

Capcom Japan has 2,5 million right now for the trailer. In a few days, it should be ahead of MH4G (2,6 million) and MH4 (2,7 million).

It's certainly delayed the development of MK9. I believe this is one of the reasons we got MK8 Deluxe
No, stop believing.
If they thought a MK9 was important for the launch period they would have prioritized it. They have experienced management you know. MK8 was enough (still fresh) and they were right.
