I sincerely hope no one is deleting stuff that could be pertinent to an investigation. I get that they're scared that he was using the site for this (this site has a definite appeal to kids) especially if he had mod privileges when he was doing this stuff, but deleting anything that's evidence is a terrible idea when a crime like this is involved.

I doubt anyone knew if he was. The authorities have his computer so if there was any bad shit going on here it would likely be found.

Just for the record, I knew Ami0x's real name and hometown (also mine) before I made that post in the deleted thread.

I talked with Amir0x in GAF irc for at least 10 years and have played online games with him.

I was not just trying to start shit. I know a lot of people here were similarly friendly with Amir0x (but not specifically who), and hoped someone could confirm what seemed to be almost certainly true to me, which is why I went public in the first place.

Sure, but the OP didn't say he knew the dude's name or the source of the second picture that he was comparing to the one in the news story. If you didn't already know the guy the evidence in the OP was not that solid and I don't assume that the mods online at the time could confirm the details. They would need to be 100% sure before letting a thread like that stand.

Not really seeing how the removal of the original thread was the wrong move. It was a huge allegation and had someone's personal details in it. Seems pretty much inline with decisions in past. Also seems kind of silly to call it "sweeping under the rug" when a thread created a few minutes later is allowed to stay now that admins are probably starting to confirm details.

Sure, but they also posted that they thought it was him, not that they were sure. The thread title was even worded as a question.

If there's even a tiny potential for doubt with an accusation of this magnitude being levelled, the right course of action is to delete the thread until more evidence comes through. An accusation of this crime will taint you forever even if you aren't guilty.
