No US SNES Classic Pre-order for now due to missing FCC Approval

Fucking Trump.

Hahaha XD

What’s the article’s source? I don’t see a single link anywhere that this is Nintendo’s official reason. Also, preorders are completely unrelated to FCC approval, a store could open preorders to any damn thing they want, even if it doesn’t exist. You can’t actually distribute the device, but that has nothing to do with preorders.

I mean... yeah it could be FCC.... or just that Nintendo Of America has some really illogical business practices that are incredibly frustrating and they continue to do over and over and over....

It is out of Microsoft's hands when the FCC approval comes through. The Xbox One X announcement was on June 11. An FCC approval doesn't come through in a matter of days. It is weeks and possible months. It is likely the same situation for Nintendo. Therefore the pre-order for the SNES Classic will at the earliest happen end of July.

Lol we're gonna be chatting it up in that Discord group for a long-ass time, Booker.

Fucking Trump.

Wait - I thought Trump was supposed to be EASING regulations?

Shouldn't the SNES Classic be flying right out of the factory and into our shopping carts, with or without highly toxic purple plastic power button paint?

It's CLEAN PLASTIC. Totally safe!

Come on, FCC. Make Videogaming Great Again!

It really bums me out that "Thanks Obama" became a meme and all Trump gave us is covfefe and "Make _____ Great again!".

Anyway, I really have no clue if this FCC thing is legit or not. It really wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo just didn't offer SNES Classic pre-orders at all in the U.S.

Is it possible to play the European version of the Snes Classic Mini in North America if I pre-order it from France? It's HDMI but will it work without any issues on a NA television?

It shouldn't. It will be USB powered and I believe Nintendo Europe confirmed they're using 60Hz ROMs.

Even if pre-orders don't happen, I'll be lining up at 6 AM at my Best Buy to grab one.

I need my hands on this.

Has there been a similar issue with the Super Famicom mini? I haven't seen pre-orders out for it yet.

Now that this thread is up, everyone can go to sleep, take off their notifications and not check for a month or so.

Rejoice.

Its not the source of leaks. This is most likely due to a smaller workforce at the FCC now that we have a new administration which has notoriously left several federal groups understaffed.

Both of these would much rather prefer that you be able to impulse pre-order rather than give you time to think over your purchase and potentially second guess yourself. The X1X not being pre-orderable after its E3 unveil is an absolute disaster for MS.

So this means they're taking time to add Chrono Trigger, Turtles in Time, Aladdin, and The Magical Quest for the US version, right?

Why aren't preorders open in Europe if it's just down to FCC approval in the US? This seems to also be an issue with Microsoft itself.

The FCC allows for up approvals to be marked "confidential" and not accessible in public database for a 180-day period.

It is unlikely that Microsoft or Nintendo specifically delayed submitting things to the FCC to prevent leaks. Rather the design wasn't finalized long enough before the announcement for the needed testing to have completed.

Heck the Scorpio had been announced for quite a while before the final unveiling at E3, there was zero reason to be coy with an FCC filing.

Apple announces products and takes pre-orders the same day most of the time and they are way more secretive with hardware than Nintendo or Microsoft.

Like the administration still has TWO FCC commissioner seats to fill. We just got their last nominee yesterday. But it's probably gonna take some time for their confirmation hearings, because the Senate has other things to do (like try to pass Trumpcare).

and still no pre-order up for Canada :(
This.

Not only are pre-orders not up, but we don't even have page listings for it. Nothing to F5, since it doesn't even show up in our searches.

Really frustrating, it wouldn't surprise if (once again) we didn't get pre-orders while many Countries other than ours did. Is it Nintendo of Canada to blame? We still don't have pre-orders for the Special Edition of Metroid Samus Returns...

This is such a stupid practice, particularly for the SNES Classic. Everyone and their grandmother knew this was a foregone conclusion after the NES Classic and how well it sold; even if a leak did happen it would have spoiled absolutely nothing for anyone and everyone would be exactly as excited as they are now.

And I'm sure the FCC doesn't love the implication that they can't be trusted to keep any secrets either.

Send iffy. Why did Switch pre-orders go up that night? Whether pre-orders are tied up by FCC approval remains to be seen. However, there is NOTHING stopping Nintendo from saying,. "we will have pre-orders at a later time."
