Then have a different trailer made. These companies have the money not to mention the craploads they stand to make from this or any other AAA game. It's you who is being sold something and it is on them to be honest about it.

In a perfect world all marketing is indicative of the product being sold. However, in reality, product are always presented in perfect conditions.

I'm not defending EA for their shitty business practices, but this thread is kinda dumb. If their hadn't been any button prompts, or just PS prompts, we wouldn't have had this thread. But the trailer would be equally deceitful. What I am doing is applying common sense.

It's a game still in production, ways off from release, a vertical slice in most ideal situation, on what EA says is 1X. Nothing is finalized.

I'm just not hiding behind "EA has shown me this, therefore it's going to be exactly that."

You can apologize all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that it is how development works. I've been a part of this process, including E3 builds / QA.

You can also continue to bury your head in the sand about an in-development project that is a year away, or use common sense to realize that as we get closer to the actual game release the way the final title looks will be present in gameplay, including captures for each channel and sites like PlayStation Access likely having their own captures.

Not to mention the countless sites like GiantBomb, KindaFunny, Easy Allies, GameSpot, Polygon, etc. that will look at gameplay on specific platforms.

This is not "duping" the consumer. This is a runtime-target of an in-development title.

I'm not burying my head in the sand at all. Like you said, it is a runtime target of the 1X not any other console. Sure things will probably change. But they are targeting a specifc piece of hardware here. If it is indeed running on a 1X it could be pushing it as is and if that is so it would be even less of a representation of the game on other platforms.

What I am positing is that it might not have been possible to run the same exact demo on any other console because it may have been pushing this one to it's max while at the same time actually achieving it's target even though it's rare. I'm saying that there could be effects that have been added to this that they are pretty sure are achievable here but not on other hardware.

Is this wrong?

I mean, I'm also saying that we don't know. Therefore transparency is the best option for the sake of the consumer.

How many consumers that see this are even going to understand the things that you or others here do who are more involved in this stuff than normal?

That is my point. For the consumer, it is just best to be as transparent as possible.

I really don't think at least labeling their footage is unreasonable at all.

I also really do think that if it was a priority to be transparent in stuff like this that these smart and wealthy people would figure out a way to do it that wasn't deceiving. Thing is, if it's not a priority then there is no reason to try and I know from personal experience that you could think something is impossible and it will remain that way until you try. I think they could figure it out.

Anyway, I would love to continue this but I am up way too late and need to get up to celebrate the 4th with the in-laws. Wish me luck, lol.

Evil Sony at it again, forcing EA to deliver them footage of a multiplatform game and poorly edited in their button prompts. Sad!

I run a business that makes and sells products. It really doesn't have to be that way. Deceptive that is.

Good night Gaf. Go easy on me while I'm gone...

I'm sorry but I'm confident that they are smart enough to sort out a way to do this that isn't duping consumers.

[Lost in thought emoji here]

If it isn't a big deal to you then why are you here? To defend these companies? To make fun of those who would advocate for more consumer friendly practices?

Because this is an objectively anti consumer move. The only one's it benefits are the companies.

And again, I've personally always seen this as an issue. It's always something that has bugged me.

Reading through the top quote I was going to jokingly post, "This is so anti consumer" but refrained because I thought that would be too jokey and not add anything to the thread (as crazy as the main discussion to me is). Then you drop this nugget on me, this feels like a full on parody now. Keep up the good fight.

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
This seems like laziness rather than any sort of conspiracy.

PS owners are going to get the game as well, and it's likely to look very similar on the Pro, so not really sure it's worth getting upset about.

Holy Shit this thread is still going?

What the hell, I thought by page 2 we were in the know how this works...

What the fuck is there to debate?

Also OP thread history, yeah no agenda here lol

so... what is your opinion? should companies do that?

This seems like laziness rather than any sort of conspiracy.

laziness? how? it would be lazy if they Just posted the Video without any misleading modifications

Because rather than record it on Sony target machinery, or even record it without Xbox prompts, they chose to quickly overwrite the prompts.

That's laziness, nothing more. Nothing sinister.

Are you actually suggesting that companies should reshoot a trailer for each platform the game will release on?

Are you serious?

is that something that's super hard or going to cost several million of dollars to make?

Thread title is so fake news, it actually hurts...

Also, I dont give a damn about the button prompts on an E3 presentation/reveal... countless times we have seen XBOX button prompts when the game was actually running on PC, so this is just irrelevant anymore. It is too early and its better to wait for proper, more representative footage closer to the actual release.

Well considering there is quite a power gap between the 1X and the Pro, it could be misleading, although...

We all witnessed Watchdogs E3 2011(?), downgrades, misleading is something that disappointingly happens a lot in the gaming world.

The difference between the games on the consoles will be a lot bigger than the majority are thinking IMO.

It's highly unlikely that they have this same demo up and running on every console. Hell, I highly doubt this demo will even make it into the final game. It's basically just a verticle slice put together for E3. E3 demos can take weeks to put together.

This really could lead to lawsuits and should be pulled. False advertising to advertise one version of a game as another without disclosing where the footage came from. I see disclosures in small print on tv ads for some games.

Also, if this was Microsoft I imagine the responses in this thread would be a lot harsher. Wasn't there a similar thread about PS4 Pro footage being passed off as Xbox One footage at some point?

It never bother me because I know I will buy PS4 version for DAY 1.

lol

I don't care about the footage.

After seen how much difference between E3 Division footage and the real gameplay... I really don't care about the footages.

I think it is EA, not Sony.

If Sony do straight edit and reupload, they could be sued by EA now.

(except indeed Sony modified it *with* permission from EA)

Be consistent. It's percent reasonable to show a game 1.5 years before release.

Sometimes I'm ashamed to be a gamer when I see stuff like this outrages some people more than blocking cross play. It's simply unreasonable to expect every trailer to have a separate version for every single platform it's releasing on.

One the casual audience that you are so afraid of being duped into thinking the graphics will be the same on all platforms don't even notice the difference.

Two the people who would see the difference would be the ones doing the research to find out.

So this is irrelevant. It will not persuade anybody either way since everyone will already have their decision made period.

Everything else is dick waving fanboy mumbo jumbo.

However if you want to hold corporations accountable, well I can post a list of both MS and Sony doing shitty deeds that are far more ethically corrupt/evil than posting lazy YouTube videos.

Twelve pages of nonsense. Sometimes gaf is shameful, yes.

look at another EA bioware game like mass effect andromeda on both current base machines. do you see a vast chasm of difference? do you see one looking so vastly inferior that you couldn't use footage from the other to advertise both? of course you don't because it doesn't exist. especially when you game in isolation like most normal people and don't sit them side by side to see the small, insignificant details that Do happen to be there.

no-one is going to care about a game being promoted using PC footage, hell, no-one does care. it happens now. it has been happening for years and no-one has given a shit. gamers aren't naive. they knew when they see a battlefield trailer looking like the dogs bollocks with 60 player multiplayer footage at 60 fps that is wasn't the PS3 version. they don't need to be told, they don't need a disclaimer, they don't need 7 versions of the same trailer made that cater to each platform. they have common sense. now imagine a world where games like battlefront 2 have all the graphical bells and whistles on all platforms, all have 40 players, and all run at 60fps. it's why when EA released the trailer for that game, it was PC footage, and it's why that same footage was posted on the playstation youtube channel and the xbone youtube channel. because by and large all versions will look so similar there really is no need in making individual trailers.

the reality is that anthem will look marginally worse on pro. it will look marginally worse still on PS4, and marginally worse STILL on xbone, it'll also look marginally better on PC, probably at both the minimum and recommended spec. it will look marginally better on PC again if you have some beast rig. do we really need 7 versions of the same trailer to know this?

At first I was like how the hell do you spot this then I saw the OP 😂.

Well this turned as expected with the usual suspects from every side arguing the importance of this.

I used to think it was a big deal but given the fact making similar footage for each plat seems excessive for a game still far out. Still the best compromise would be to have no prompts but as said by Matt they would accept that.

Most of the blame here as discussed is on EA and partly on Sony PR for not checking it's genuine footage. Although I very much though console PR department actively check for things like this.

What the hell has happened to the forum?
All the turtles.

I wish more posters would understand the their post history can undermine their future arguments and discussions, regardless of how valid they may or may not be.

For trailers its completely fine, they're meant to advertise the game in its best light possible, almost dramatise it.

For gameplay demo's (which this was), I don't agree with it. I think its a crap practise. When you watch a gameplay demo, that's meant to be what you're going to see on your screen. There should be a notice at the start saying which platform it was captured on.

Especially when a video on Sony's YouTube channel says it was captured in real-time, not even from their platform.

I'm not just singling this out, it happens a lot, but I just dont agree with it. It reminds me of the pictures of food on boxes/adverts.

This has been happening for years. If a company has a marketing deal, they'll demo the game on that platform. Other platform's social media outlets will take that footage and superimpose their buttons over the originals or simply blur them out if they're feeling naughty.

Common stuff, don't see why it's such a big deal here.

How is this thread still going strong?

1. There's a difference between paid advertisement on TV and "gameplay" footage and trailers on YouTube.

2. Either EA edited the button prompts or Sony did with the permission of EA.

3. If this is an issue for you, then at least acknowledge that it's a standard practice in the industry.

4. Don't forget about all those E3 2013-17 Xbox One gameplay trailers and presentations running on PC without a disclaimer.

As I said back on page 2, OP should have thought this thread through.

I love how you single out MS here, although you had UC4's first reveal which was supposed to be "in-game".

I also remember the threads and the people scrutinising KI running 1080/60 on PC and what happened to Forza 5, but yet, this is fine yeah?

Hypocrisy on here...

Somewhere a Photoshoper at EA is having a bad day. Sorry guy or gal. "Skip a few frames. No-one will notice". Crap!

All said and done though, who cares, this early on. If they tried to pass it off as gameplay footage at release that would be something else.
