4K update for Halo 5 with the release of Xbox One X & (some) Halo games going BC

So those of us who own MCC and want good versions of the games need to buy these ones? I assume that's the case

That is kind of a pickle. Reach I know has been free with Gold but I don't think the others have. Though I guess MS figures most people have them and they're all like fivers used. Though would be a nice gesture to just give free copies to anyone with the MCC played on their account by a certain time frame.

MCC still has the best versions with 60fps.

Wouldn't the BC get these pretty close to that though?
Then there's the whole MP part of it.

Wow this is some seriously awesome news.

I love the idea of companies making games that already have remasters available for backwards compatibility.

Such welcome news. And remember when people were saying "I can't believe 343 isn't making a Scorpio patch for Halo 5!"

That's taken care of there.

343 just needs to fix MCC. Man... imagine a Scorpio patch for MCC. They would fix bugs + add performance enhancements. That will be a happy thread.

I'm a little confused here. Never owned a Xbox One but plan on picking up the Xbox One X this year specifically for Halo. Should I skip out on purchasing the Master Chief Collection in lieu of each title individually à la the BC version?

343 PLEASE Update the Halo Reach Playlists. Theres no reason for The title update to not be implemented to all the playlists. Its so stupid 😩

Abandoning the 60fps versions and announcing this is utterly baffling.

No, it's not. ppl have been badgering them for the past year for these versions. So there is nothing 'baffling' about this decision, it was inevitable.

We don't need the mcc anymore.

Expected, but nice. This on all likelihood deals the deal on my x1x purchase

Yes.

MCC still have problems, these are perfect. Unless 60fps is more important to you than working MP.

No. MCC is much preferable and it's dirt cheap on cdkeys.com

Just get MCC. Its like 10 bucks digital at CDkeys and the best way to play all the campaigns .

For single player sure but IIRC the multiplayer is still a mess. I wouldn't be surprised if it works better on these ones.

Don't get me wrong this would be GREAT news had that game not been left in the state it is. But announcing this without any further news on the collection stings.

I mean, are that many people going to revisit a 2 year old campaign for 4K resolution? Who is this for?

New users and returning users. It's also 4K for MP which still has healthy populations and will bump in November too. You can get a sense of the fidelity by looking at the PC Forge/MP package on a high end PC and without committing to anything I will note that BC legacy titles and the "fate" of MCC are not connected at the hip as some have perhaps reasonably, but in this specific case, mistakenly inferred. That may be cold comfort with no information to share at this time, but they are not an either or situation.

Halo 3 getting backwards compatibility for it's anniversary is a joke compared to what 1 and 2 got and pretty much confirms that we are never getting another update to MCC.

Really? I'd take H3 BC over the anniversary ANY DAY... considering A1 and 2 both butchered the MP experience....

Nice. My reaction to the bolded:

How's the story in 4 and 5...?

I've been out since the Trilogy and Reach; maybe 4K on XBX will be the push I need to get back in to Halo.

4 is okay, goes some interesting directions, but the ending sort of drops the ball with the main antagonist. Not as good as its predecessors but I still enjoyed it.

5 goes in a weird direction and doesn't end, just sort of stops and asks you to buy Halo 6. I hardly remember it.

Does it address the atrocious LoD pop in, or do shadows and more complex geometry just leap in at 4k resolution?

Traveling to Austin shortly for RTX.

I am going to Franklin/Salt Lick but everyone tells me La barbecue is the new hotness. I also need a package of brisket to take back on the plane.

Seattle BBQ is terribad.

Frankie...please get permission to just allow us to know MCC is dead. These cycles of hope for that game are even more damaging to the future of the franchise and its playerbase.

With knowledge we can finally grieve

MCC should suffice. It's the best way to play Halo 1, Halo 2, and Halo 4, with full 1080 and 60FPS for all games (barring the anniversary makeovers, which run like shit). Halo 3 is tougher because MCC borked its lighting and controls. I think the 360 version is still ideal, but it's up to you whether or not you're willing to sacrifice 60 FPS and a slight resolution bump for a truer H3 experience.

Probably dynamic resolution with 4K as the cap and 60fps as the target framerate. Similar to how it is on the base XB1 but with 1080p instead of 4K.

With the given dynamic resolution for the other version I can't see them being native at all times but it could be that they put a lot of effort into the patch and we also don't know what the limitation was in their first try.

Holy Halo news the title to this thread does not come close to explaining the good stuff coming.
1)halo 3 playlist in halo 5
2)All 360 Halo games BC with Free DLC

So Stinkles are we finally going back to og halo for 6. No sprint, good maps and a real halo feel. Talk to walshy please, ask him what halo is to him. And tell him to be brutally direct and honest

Take a look at what's happening with crash, doom and other games. We appreciate games being what they are liked for
