It's really that way for you?

I had the CV1 lying around for two weeks during christmas time (my brother in law brought it with him) and I just tried it, I hated the god rays and put it back in the box.

It's kinda funny the perception is that different.

It's just menus and certain scenes.

I really really hate the fresnel rays (saying god rays seems confusing since that is a real graphic effect in games). Luckily, it seems mostly limited to menus, but I haven't tried a game like Elite Dangerous. I did buy the Apollo 11 experience, but I haven't tried it yet - I can imagine space isn't good for this...

Well, potential issues aside, I just picked up a rift + touch from best buy. I can return it for 14 days, so I'll see how wearing glasses effects my enjoyment level. I hope I decide to keep it.

PSVR works just fine on PC.

It's not actually supported though is what I mean. All sorts of issues present themselves, future tracking iterations would have to be Jerry rigged, support would be really hit and miss from the modding/tinkering communities. They eo a lot of great things, and I know they've got it working pretty well. But it's still not going to live up to the Vive or Rift for usage at this point.

Well I ordered directly from Oculus on the 11th in the morning PST but still haven't had the order process or charge me yet. A few days later I ordered a third sensor to see if there was a problem with payment, but that went through immediately and is set to arrive at my house on Friday.

I saw bestbuy.ca had the bundle available with a guaranteed delivery for Monday the 24th so I jumped on that as a second order. If Oculus gives me a shipping notice within the week I'll cancel my BB order since Oculus is a good $65 CAD cheaper, but we'll see what happens.

Gah, I just want to play!

How's PSVR support on PC anyway. Still lacks camera support no?

I used it. Was blown away.

Then I used it on PS4 and realised it was better..

Then I got CV1 and it is not comparable at all. TrinusVR requires so much tinkering and getting the scale right with the custom height and IPD setting requires too much fiddling.

It's worth it if you want to check out PC applications like you would with a DK2 (with no positional tracking) but it isn't an experience I would suggest for the average consumer.

Does this not ship with different lenses like the DK2? I can use the DK2 with the B lenses without my glasses, I'm guessing I'm screwed with the CV1.

Has anyone else experienced their play area (guardian system) move to a totally different area during gameplay? I've had this happen a couple times now since I moved my sensors to the corners. It still seems able to track me but you can see the green outline in your field of vision in a different area (no longer centered around you). Not sure if it's a problem on my end or just inherent to the current "experimental" state of the sensors setup like this. Also, it seems to stay there permanently; I restarted my computer and played different games with the problem persisting. Recalibrating the sensors/guardian guardian system was the only way to get it back to normal.

Is it perhaps best to just stick to 2 front-facing sensors?

I ordered from Oculus and a day later it said my order was cancelled. So I contected customer service to see what was wrong and they told they would look into it, that was last week and they never responded. I decided to just order from Amazon but now that is saying it will arrive between August and October!

Got my oculus rift today, just waiting on the 3rd sensor to arrive now (estimated wednesday). Also had to order some clamp mounts for the 2 front sensors that are placed on a high shelf since the sensors dont tilt far enough when facing down (yet they tilt far if facing up which is weird).

So for now the rift box is just sitting in my room taunting me lol.

The problem is Oculus' hybrid fresnels, not fresnels in general. Vive's glare artifacts are nowhere near the level of Oculus and are easy to ignore. The trade off with PSVRs simple lenses is their microscopic sweet spot and warping/bowing artifacts.

Yeah, I did notice that I don't have to fidget with Oculus near as much as PSVR to get the sweet spot correct.

I'm getting used to it now in games like Superhot and some of the free games that came with the bundle. It's just REALLY distracting in high contrast games or menus. E:D just happens to be a game that it's terrible in.

Superhot VR has kinda sold me on keeping it, though. The touch controllers are streets ahead of PS Move. It makes any kind of gunplay infinitely better.

Ok so I think I've got everything figured out for all my cable extensions, does this look right?

These two for the HDMI connection, since I already have my hdmi used for my pc to a/v receiver i have to use a displayport.

I'm SO irritated.
Order my Rift this morning. Was going to do Best Buy store pickup today.
I get an email telling me its back ordered and I can pick it up next Monday. I figure "screw that" and change it to ship to my house since it said I'd get it Wednesday.

Now both my headset and controllers say "order processing" ALL DAY.

I call the store and they say they have the headset in stock but are really low on Touch Controllers.

Omg now I just have to sit here and wait for it to eventually ship when I could have just driven up and bought the damn thing.

Same thing happened to me. I went up there and asked that they give me a rift + controllers even though my order was "backordered". they obliged.

*fingers crossed* that my Rift doesn't get hit with a duty fee when coming into Canada! Someone on RedFlagDeals said their Rift is being charge an $90 fee :/. Everyone else I've seen order on RedFlag said they were both duty and tax free!

Also, I placed my order on Friday around 6 and my card still has not been charged. I feel like it is going to be a while before this thing arrives.

Couple things

Headset can be 2.0

2 Sensors should be 3.0 (only a third sensor should be 2.0)

Why not use DisplayPort for your PC instead?

15 feet sounds really long for an HDMI extender.

I'v run a headset in 2.0 and 2 sensors in 2.0 and noticed no difference in tracking quality compared to both sensors in 3.0.

K didn't know that about the sensors, I'll just switch the headset to the usb 2.0 then.

My 1070 has one hdmi port and 3 displayports. I have my pc hooked up to an a/v receiver to use my home theater setup which takes only hdmi connections.

I have a question.

can you launch games and do everything with the Rift straight from the headset? or are there certain things you gotta click on with ur mouse and your PC?

I ask because, there is a ton of space in front of my computer, which is where I plan to set up my rift...
but it would be annoying having to always move around the desk behind me to the computer to click on something, like if I want to switch to a different game or something

You can launch everything just by picking up your headset and putting it on. The caveat is that you have to do something to get steam VR turned into an Oculus Home app.

Heres how: http://gamedummy.com/steamvrforoculus

perfect! thanks. I really didn't want to have to set up my rift in front of my comp due to lack of space there.

Any of you guys know from past stuff if the Echo Arena beta will stay in my library like the stuff does on PSN? I want to use that as the replacer for my Steam VR launcher permanently.

Also, I thought I was immune from VR sickness. And then I tried Mission:ISS.

Through lots of tweaks (steam vr link with oculus tray tool) and other settings you can do pretty much everything in the headset. If you feel limited in any way, there's virtual desktop that's like $13 that lets you do your desktop in vr.

It's taken my abot a day and a half to not only realize what tools I need but to also install and configure them. I'm pretty much all in the headset now except when some weird settings need tweaked.

From (closed) beta testing an Oculus game, I know they can poof games from your library like nothing. But Echo Arena is going to be free for all for 3 months so maybe it'll just transition into a copy of the game you own forever?

Mission:ISS? Odd, I’ve had zero issues with that, even after unlocking grab to rotate. I wish it had an ever more advanced option to unlock rotational inertia. Its proooobably a bad idea, but I still want to try it!

I found this poster's writeup with four sensors. He uses an HDMI repeater and active USB extensions:

https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/com...ensus_on_the_insignia_9_vr/djzqi0y/?context=3

Here is my HMD cable setup: https://youtu.be/rbU8ZB4L8eE
Repeater: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GHL72XS/?tag=neogaf0e-20
HDMI extension cable 15ft: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008D5EUD2/?tag=neogaf0e-20
Here is my sensor setup: https://youtu.be/1pNsPGXaDPI
3 closest sensor extension cables 16ft: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0179MXKU8/?tag=neogaf0e-20
1 furthest sensor gets 10m 32ft ACTIVE USB 3.0 cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DMFFL2W/?tag=neogaf0e-20
Lastly, I use 2 of these PCI-Express USB 3.1 expansion cards with excellent results: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AVSN2YG/?tag=neogaf0e-20
These cards provide sufficient power and bandwidth to the sensors with these long extensions.
My sensor dimensions are: 11'2" x 10'4" My usable play space "because of computer desks" is about 9' x 10'4

(Might be his referral links in there? But useful post so whatever).

I don't really know the constraints but I'd refrain from getting super long cables that aren't necessary. I've seen setups use 10ft for USB and HDMI but I wouldn't go past that myself.

....15ft isn't too long for hdmi at all.

Plenty of people run that or more when mounting tv's and things and run the cable through the walls, etc.

40+ foot is when I'd start to worry, but there are cables rated for that as well from places like blue jean cables.

Funny thing is that I now have 24/7 god rays / light smearing in my eyes after going to LASIK surgery. Guess how irritating that is, lol.

At least the Oculus ones don't bother me anymore.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How come?

I was thinking the same thing yesterday, but I've got used to the god rays. They are really only TERRIBLE in Elite: Dangerous.

Robo Recall was really fun and so is Superhot. Try those out.

Trying the Rift out has made me interested in VR, but I want full room scale tracking like the Vive has. Trouble is, the Vive is expensive even secondhand, and I don't know if the Vive is worth it. I've seen excellent condition Vives online for $600 and that is tempting, but I think I'm gonna save my money and wait for the next generation of SteamVR headsets. If they put out a Vive 2 with the improved lighthouses and knuckle controllers, I might buy that.

I received from oculus my rift + touch bundle yesterday.

Robo recall just the best gaming experience I've ever had. Period.

The climb is also incredible.

Just got my Rift and it's awesome, I especially love watching movies in the theater but some questions:

1. Not all audio plays and I don't have the options to change them. Is there only certain file types that Rift video likes?

2. The file navigation for oculus video is a mess, is there a better video app that lets you watch things in a theater setting?

Steam VR Theater questions:

1. No games work in VR Theater mode for me, they all say they will launch in VR Theater mode, but all I see is a black square with a swirling loading screen meanwhile the game is loading and playing just fine on my regular monitor. What gives???

Edit: Also it's really intense, almost overwhelming when virtual characters look at you and interact with you. It's so incredibly life like.

Try BigScreen, it's free and does everything you want. Also there are several VR video players, I don't think Oculus Video is consider all that good as far as playing content, it's just another VR video content outlet to me. Virtual Desktop is worth looking into.

If you really like movies in VR then try setting up a quality bass shaker to your chair, it's also great in any game with an engine.

Got my HMD today. Touch and third sensor coming in a bit.

Downloaded the setup file and had it crash immediately. Googled for solutions and tried multiple stuff, including installing C++ and restarting my PC multiple times. Finally, downloaded the .NET framework and restarted and now it's working.

WTF is this shit? Basic simple stuff like installing the damn thing should not be so damn difficult.

Is anyone's right touch controller trigger "clicky?"

It used to have some kind of sound dampening, but only after a few days of use, it makes this clicky noise everytime I press it. The trigger itself also feels a bit looser now.

I looked online, and apparently this is a common problem with the Touch controllers? You have to RMA the controllers and send them to Oculus so they can fix it. You can also try opening up the touch controllers themselves to fix the problem, but then you risk breaking something else (they are not easy to fix.)

This is a bit of a bummer. It usually takes at least a year before I start having some kind of issue with a controller.
