I've been to maybe 4 or 5 tapings and I think my wife has been to 10 or 12 (she's been a paid audience member for it a handful of times, *coughs*). It's a fun show. But the format has been stale for a long time and I think most of the changes they've made to liven it up have made it worse. It's a good way to catch up and coming west coast comics, for sure, but beyond that I think it's probably run its course.

Hardwick is obviously a talented guy, a genial host, and crazy driven, but I also think he's probably at the point of being a little overexposed (and doubtless overstretched). I can't blame him for wanting to focus on more mainstream, less time intensive projects. Also I really have heard enough about his mother and wife for a lifetime. I'm sure they're great people.

Love Ron! Don't tell me Powerless is just now getting canceled (re: thread title)

Ausiello's got a new blind item!

And, lucky for us, he's narrowed it down to 9 shows.
- The Exorcist
- Scorpion
- Supergirl
- The Blacklist
- Blindspot
- Designated Survivor
- NCIS
- Scandal
- Elementary

Didn't Elementary end last season with Sherlock having a brain tumor? I don't think he (or the show) is living past next season :(

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.

Where oh where will I get my Chris Hardwick on television fix now.

This is the first cancellation in a while that has got me pretty sad, actually. I enjoyed the show and have seen every episode. I'll agree with Stump that the slight format shifts they've attempted over the last year didn't really work out, though.

This finally closes out the powerhouse Jon Stewart/Colbert Report/@Midnight block for Comedy Central.

What format changes did the do to @Midnight? I haven't watched it in over a year.1

They don't introduce people first, instead jumping right in and then bouncing back to introducing people like 8 minutes in. For a while they had a lot of guest characters and skits and Hardwick is doing a lot more monologuing and I feel like it just gets in the way of the comics. I also feel like the types of guests they've been having have been increasingly dumb. I don't like most of the themed episodes built around whole casts of a show. I didn't like any of the Trump/Bernie stuff. Although they've dropped the awful Samsung product placement they had for the tablets in the first few years, they increasingly have done sponsored giveaways or stuff. Just generally I liked the show better when it was a 0 budget scrappy underdog.

That's basically why I stopped watching. It got too political and unfunny. I liked it better when it was just about random stuff, instead of politics all the time. Plus, there are only so many times you can watch Doug Benson an Ron Funches before their shtick gets really old.

I get it. Greg Benson likes marijuana. HA HA HA! So funny! I always hated when he was on.

Is it about her struggle with polio?

Doug Benson, sure. Especially when you see his pre-pot act and compare it to now.

Ron Funches, though? Never.

Edit: Also, after this year, I'm fine with making Ron Funches the new Summer Glau.

Aw c'mon Funches is pretty great. Although I did laugh out loud at the top comment on this video:

He wasn't really bad, he was just way overused. The week when they had him on every night was when the show jumped the shark.

That sucks. I haven't been able to watch since Hulu lost the rights to most Comedy Central shows in February.

Yeah, this is where I checked out. I used to watch it the next day when I had the chance, but now I barely catch it. Still surprised they're ending it, though.

I feel like I'm completely out of the loop on Comedy Central these days. South Park, Daily Show and the Trump show are the only things I can remember off the top of my head

best seen in the classic "Shadow of the Beast"
I like Hardwick, and admire his passion. But I can not watch him anything for more then 5 minutes.

i give him props for being the host on little brothers minstrel show album

Hulu signed a pretty big deal with 20th Century Fox and will get some of the following shows exclusive to stream

The Practice is a show I've long wanted to (attempt) to rewatch, as it's unavailable in pretty much any format. Excellent! It's probably terrible now though.

Nah, the more grounded stuff holds up pretty well. Some of the wackier plot lines seem wildly over the top now, then again I'm not sure how anyone took the serial killer nun thing seriously back then either. Also what was dark for network back then sure isn't the same now.

Boston Legal holds up pretty well too, but the political stuff is a lot different. Lots of Bush bashing then the final season talked all about Obama and being pretty hopeful for the future of the country. Yeah.

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
Guess that answers the question of how long The CW plans on dealing with The Originals post-Vampire Diaries.

I believe there was some spin-off chatter a month or so ago, but I'm guessing this will mark the end of that universe. I haven't seen the latest season but for me as a big TVD fan, I think TO was a good move as it marked a jumping off point for Klaus in the main series, as there was a limited amount of ways he could stay central to the show and they found a clever way to write him off. But, the show itself never reached the heights of TVD for me and unfortunately the high points of it to me were second half of season one and all of season two, so for the three seasons I've seen I haven't found it engaging throughout - and the plotting and villains of S3 were notably dull to me. Containment, though not within the universe, felt very TVD-esque with its overlap of actors and similar plotting and characterization style, so that was a welcome surprise after some disappointment with TO S3.

Netflix will look more barren than it already does I guess. Also, how much money does Hulu have? Geez. They just spent a bunch of money getting HBO.

Isn't Hulu backed by NBC?

It is 30% owned by NBC, yes.

It's also, as it relates to G0523's comment about "spending a bunch of money getting HBO", partially owned by HBO.

Any time you hear about Hulu signing a deal for content, please recognize that it's just an oligopoly deal designed to fuck Netflix. Hulu is not profitable and they've been trying to sell it for years. It exists only to make Netflix a worse service to protect broadcast companies.

I would bang a hot farmer!
I planned to watch the last season of The Originals once the season was over but still haven't bothered to.
